《The Human Luna》Chapter 8

"Keith." The voice spoke again addressing my kidnapper making him flinch before me. The voice was strong and demanding. It radiated power and authority. Keith didn't dare to move. He was worried. Almost as if he didn't want the man behind him to see me. But why? Who was the man standing at the door way who had spoken?

Finally my kidnapper cleared his throat and lifted his arms from either side of the chair I was sitting on. It was almost as if he was standing to attention in the military as he turned around straightening his back and placing both his hands down by his sides.

"Alpha." He bowed ever so slightly tilting his neck to the side baring his jugular. I had recognised the word instantly. It was the first letter of the Greek alphabet. But also the title used for dominant male animals in packs such as wolves. But for that to be the man's actual name was unusual. A nickname perhaps?

I had expected to see some kind of mafia looking middle aged man in a suit. That seemed cliché and fitting. But instead I was met with a guy that looked around twenty two or perhaps twenty three. He wasn't much older than I in fact. As soon as my eyes fell on him lounging up against the door frame before us I couldn't bring myself to look away. My heartbeat quickened and I practically stopped breathing.

He was tall, six foot three at the very least with messy wild brown hair, intense hazel eyes and a sharp jawline that was covered in stubble. I couldn't stop myself from letting my eyes trail down over his body. His arms were crossed over his chest making his well-defined muscles only seem more apparent underneath his plain white t-shirt. Even his legs were muscular; they were on show as he wore only shorts just like my kidnapper, not seeming fazed by the cold at all.

I trembled slightly and goose bumps covered my skin. I wanted to look away. So badly. But he stared straight at me intensely without a care in the world. I was captured under his observation. I would be lying if I said I didn't think he was good looking, honestly he was unlike any guy I had ever seen. But I was too scared to even register that in my thoughts at this moment in time. I was more concerned over the fact that this was the guy that was probably going to end my life.

"Alpha." My kidnapper spoke up breaking the trance between me and the man. I was grateful as the eye contact broke and I instantly stared down at my wrists that were on fire and pulsating with pain. I needed to escape from here. But I had no idea how. "We have a problem."

"And what might that be?" The man at the door replied keeping his gaze solidly on me. I could feel his eyes studying every inch of my skin and I tried hard to ignore it. I knew if I looked up I would once again be caught in those eyes of his. This guy was dangerous. That I could already tell. He was obviously in control of this entire operation.

"She has marks on her skin." My kidnapper explained sounding flustered as he pointed towards me accusingly as if it was almost my fault that I was hurt. "We never should have brought her here."

"Perhaps not. But we had to do something." The Alpha named man replied casually before reaching up to the wall to flip a switch. Finally I could see my surroundings, he had turned on the light.

I was in a large study. The room was decorated in shades of green and brown with ivy and other unidentifiable plants draped across the many furnishings. The floor was made from several different types of wood and in the centre of the room was an oak table with intricate designs carved into it. The walls were lined with window after window but all of them had blinds which were currently blocking the view of the world outside.

I wondered what time it was. How long had I been unconscious before I awoke? Was it morning yet? Had my father noticed I had disappeared yet? Maybe he was already out searching for me. I wanted to cry. I wanted to scream. But the tears just wouldn't come and neither would my voice.

"I thought we were bringing her here to dispose of her. Her father is a damn detective for Goddess sake!" Keith catechized bewildered from beside me.

Cowering I wrapped my arms around my body. The Alpha man walked forwards towards me and I automatically recoiled back into the chair that I was sitting on. He wanted to kill me and cover it up as an animal attack like the other victims in the forest. I had seen too much. These guys were sociopaths. They were insane. They were murderers. Is this what they had done with the others that mysteriously disappeared?

"She's human." He voiced bending down to eye level before me. His head cocked to the side as my eyes once again got caught in his entrancing gaze. "Humans are easy to deal with."

I remained silent but ultimately I felt sick to the pits of my stomach. He was talking about me as if I was a foreign species. He was human too was he not? I couldn't stop the tears from streaming down my face now. How I had any tears left was beyond me. My eyes burned from dehydration as did my mouth. Habitually I ran my tongue along my bottom lip to try and wet it. As I done so the man before me looked almost afflicted. His gaze flickered down to my lips and suddenly his face fell from composed to a more serious expression.

"What do we do with her then? What happens when he comes looking for her? We're all in danger if she stays here!" Keith questioned glaring over at me with so much hatred.

"We'll figure it out." The Alpha guy answered raising up to his full height again before walking around my chair and taking a seat behind the oak desk. He was so calm and relaxed compared to Keith. None of this seemed to bother him. "Why don't you go to the infirmary and see if they can lend us a first aid kit?"

"A first aid kit?" Keith asked baffled at the man's suggestion. "What so we're going to patch her up now? We don't have time for this!"

Several moments passed and the Alpha guy made no move to answer. I could still feel his eyes upon me as I sat there uncomfortably.

Was this some sort of sick cult? This Alpha guy was obviously the leader but he was so young. Keith had revealed to me that they were the ones behind all the attacks. Behind the reason why the wolves were roaming free in the reserve. What was their motive?

Keith grew agitated by the silence and huffed loudly storming out of the room muttering incoherently to himself.

"Do you have a name?" The Alpha guy asked making me jump in shock bringing me back to reality. I couldn't bring myself to use my voice. It was bad enough that they already knew my father was a detective. Surely if he was that informed he would already know what my name was.

A small sigh escaped from his lips as he once again got up from his desk. "Eliza c'mon we can either do this the easy way or the hard way."

My name sounded foreign on his tongue and my heart felt like it had stopped momentarily within my chest. He did know my name. So then why did he ask what it was?

"H-How did you know my name?" I managed to croak out in fear.

"I know a lot of things." He declared walking back into my peripheral vision. Did he find this entire situation funny? Did he find kidnapping and murdering people fun? How was someone this young involved with something so twisted and messed up? "I make it my business to know things."

"Who are you?" I uttered feeling slightly braver than I had earlier. If I was going to die I wanted to at least know by whom. And why for that matter. I deserved that much. "Why am I here?"

"You've caused quite a bit of a dilemma Eliza." He announced going to one of the many windows within the room before pulling the blinds up. That didn't answer my question. I looked over to the window but I could see nothing but trees outside. It was bright outside.

"Where are we? Why am I here?" I whispered asking the same question once more. Silence fell across the room. My tears continued to fall.

"Im sorry Eliza... But you seen too much." He apologised, however his voice remained emotionless. "I've seen too much."

"I don't know anything! Just let me go!" I wept swirling around in my chair to face him. He was heartless.

"I'm sorry but I can't." He shook his head, his countenance still unreadable.

"Please -" I stood up from the chair and instantaneously my legs gave way beneath me. I was weak. My body was sore and aching. I crashed to the floor and pain shot through my knee where it had previously been cut open. He was across the room before I could even blink.

"Don't touch me." I snapped as he extended his hand out to assist me making him instantly recoil it. "This is about the wolves isn't it?"

He didnt reply. Nor did he have to. I already knew it was for that reason.

Sobbing I shook my head wiping away the tears. "People have gone missing. People are dead. Bodies have been gruesomely mutilated. Why are you letting this happen? How could you let this happen?"

"These wolves are different Eliza. They would never hurt an innocent human being."

"Wolves are wild animals that cannot be controlled. Why would you release them here?" I cried out glaring up at him in disbelief. I didn't understand this. Any of this. "Is this where all the missing people have been going? Anyone that sees something that they shouldn't ... you just make them disappear?"

His body began to heave heavily and it was almost as if he was trying to hold something back inside. I had struck a nerve, but I wasn't about to stop.

"So you're going to kill me... just like the others. Cover my death up as another animal attack. What about those two people who were found brutally mutilated in the reserve huh?"

"I told you. We do not kill innocents. You have nothing to fear from us." He inhaled deeply and instantaneously he was recomposed back to his previous unbothered persona.

If he wasn't going to kill me then what was he going to do with me?

"They were innocent too! What did they do to deserve it? Why do you keep talking about me as if I'm any different to-"

"ALPHA!"

Suddenly Keith burst through the door interrupting us looking panicked. Two more guys followed suit, both of which were much older than Keith and the Alpha guy. How many more people were involved and in on this sick affair?

"Alpha. The humans. They are coming." Keith announced looking straight at me as if I was his worst nightmare and a nuisance sent from hell all at once.

"Already? I guess we should have expected this. Ok, no need to panic." The Alpha guy replied remaining perfectly calm at Keith's outburst. He walked swiftly back to his desk and pulled open one of the drawers on the far side rooting around for something inside. A key?

Who were coming? Hope instantly filled me, people were coming. Dad was coming. He must have noticed my disappearance. I couldn't help but think about how sick and worried he must have felt when he noticed I was missing from my room.

"They are traveling up the reserve trail in jeeps towards our village as we speak."

"...The village?" I pondered aloud making everyone turn to face me simultaneously. Silence once again fell over the room as everyone remained frozen. It was then that they realised that they had let out a detail too much in front of their hostage. They had been heedless saying everything in front of me.

I knew where I was. Exactly where I was. "Oh my God."
