《The Human Luna》Chapter 7

I was awoken by the sound of loud voices and the soft hum of a vehicle engine. As I slowly came back to my senses I tried to open my eyes groggily but found that I couldn't. A thick material covered my sight. What was going on? Where was I?

Shuffling slightly I realised that I was tied up tightly, a thick binding rope digging deep into my wrists and ankles. Wincing at the burn from the friction against my skin I tried to remain perfectly still to prevent any further infliction.

Panic set in and I found myself starting to feel violently ill. My head was spinning as I recalled the previous events of being attacked in my room by two strange men. That would explain why my neck felt sore and tender, it was from the assault. How long had I been out for? Why was this happening?

It felt surreal. This was completely insane. I mean this had to be some sort of sick cruel joke right? This couldn't be happening to me. Terrified I couldn't contain my tears as they spilled from my closed eyes wetting the fabric in front of them.

"Be interesting to see what happens when we get back to the den." A voice laughed. It was the man from last night. His accent was unusual so I recognised it directly. It sounded almost northern.

"Mhm, I wonder what he's gonna do with her. You know with her being one of them and all." Another voice replied disdainfully. "She could be another tracker?"

"Doubt it. She would have sensed our presence in the room ... and put up more of a fight during the attack."

What was a den? And what did they mean by tracker? What on earth were they talking about? Who were these people? The road was bumpy making the vehicle jump up and down. It reminded me of the road into the reservation from yesterday but this one felt much worse and a lot rougher. Were these people behind all the disappearances? Oh god.

My brain went into overdrive thinking about all of the worst possible scenarios and outcomes of this situation. With every passing second I began to feel sicker and sicker until finally the inner contents of my stomach wouldn't stay down. Lurching forward I vomited, the vile taste lingering in my mouth.

"Holy Goddess!" The first voice shouted and the entire vehicle jerked coming to a sudden halt making me slam back into the seat. Before I could even register what was going on something hard collided with my head and all went black once more.

When I awoke for the second time I was immersed in darkness yet again. Except this time my eyes were fully open with no blindfold covering them.

My head pulsated with pain. Something really hard must have stricken it for it to be this sore. Had someone purposely knocked me out? Taking a deep breath I try to focus my attention and I can tell that I am tied to something. A chair perhaps?

Trying to gather my thoughts I look around to see if I can make out any shapes at all in the darkness but it comes to no prevail. I have been kidnapped. By who and why, well that I still couldn't grasp quite yet. I could feel myself beginning to tremble in distress. Where was my dad? Was he looking for me? Does he even know I'm missing yet?

Animal Attacks, disappearances, wolves, strange silhouettes, kidnappers. This town was beyond messed up. How had I managed to land smack down right in the middle of all this? Why was this happening to me of all people?

I pull at the restraints a little harder, but it is worthless. Biting my lip in discomfort I realise that one of the ropes on my wrist has managed to break the skin drawing blood. The warm liquid seeped down into my palm and my stomach turned in disconcertment.

Suddenly the sound of footsteps echoed from outside the room and I froze petrified. Someone was coming. No, please. A sudden thick silence fills the air as the footsteps cease and I feel my heart start to pick up its pace.

A door is slammed open straight ahead of me and I cringe back as the bright light hits my eyes. A silhouetted figure comes into view and stalks towards me.

"I smelt blood?" I heard a familiar voice ask me. It was the guy from the car with the unusual accent.

I looked up, my tear stained blue eyes instantly connecting with green eyes. The man standing before me was young, looking not a day older than 23 standing at around 6ft. Ginger curly hair covered the top of his head in a fashionable style and he was dressed in a long sleeved shirt and shorts.

"Shit." He growled lowly as his gaze locked down on my arm where the ropes had cut into my skin. Tears started to spill again and sobs escaped the back of my throat. I was beyond scared now. This guy was my kidnapper. What was he going to do to me?

"This is bad." He spoke worried looking at all the burn marks the ropes had left on my skin. Not to mention the open wound that was bleeding. Sobs continued to escape my throat as I shook violently in the chair before him.

I couldn't even register what he was saying. All I could do was cry. Someone would save me before he done anything bad to me right? Someone would save me. Someone would save me. Someone would save me.

Instantly he rushed to my side and began untying the ropes which held my limbs tightly against the chair. Shocked I sniffled and stared at him wide eyed realising what he was doing.

"This is bad." He repeated mumbling under his breath as he shook his head.

"What - What are you doing?" I stuttered out in shock as the final knot came loose. I reached up and began to rub my sore wrists before applying pressure to my open wound to try and prevent it from bleeding anymore.

"I'll be killed next if he sees this!" He growled slapping his hand over the top of his forehead anxiously.

"You're the one that done this to me." I cried out appalled as I stared at him in disbelief. By now my voice had raised a few octaves but I continued to cry tears streaking down my face. "Why am I here? What is going on?"

"Watch your tongue. You're in no position to be making demands for answers." He snarled and my mouth instantly shut and I could feel my eyes growing wide with fear. Any ounce of bravery that I had just had vanished into thin air. "See this is the problem with your kind."

"My kind?" I repeated aloud before I could stop myself. Shaking my head in confusion I stared up at him from where I sat. What did he mean by my kind?

"You brought this on yourself!" He scowled glaring down at me with so much hatred. I was becoming more and more confused. What on earth was he talking about?

"I haven't done anything wrong? Please you've got the wrong person!" I pleaded not understanding. He had to have the wrong person. I had only just arrived to this town. Maybe they had kidnapped me because of dad? He was a detective after all and he had put a lot of enemies behind bars.

Bending down he rolled my pyjama trousers up on my leg to reveal the wound on my knee from earlier. I had forgotten that I had fallen on the gravel when running from the wolves. It had subsided bleeding but it was still raw and stinging. But wait, how did he know I had a cut on my leg?

"... Are you one of the rangers?" I breathed out wrecking my brain to see if he looked familiar at all. "Is Orla in on this?"

He shook his head looking frustrated as he examined the cut on my leg.

"Please I don't know why I'm here -"

"You seen something you shouldn't have!" He roared causing me to shrink back in the chair I was sitting on. "You never should have came here. You've ruined everything."

"What?" I stuttered out in fear as I watched him bawl his hands up into a tight fist. Realisation washed over me like a cold shower. He was talking about the wolves. But how did he know about them? I was alone up in the reservation? Had he seen them too? Did this mean I wasn't crazy?

"The wolves..." I began looking up at him unsure, his face unreadable. He didn't interrupt though which meant I was right. I wasn't meant to see the wolves. But why?

"You've put everything into jeopardy. Centuries we have been hiding, centuries we have been protecting ourselves." He shouted throwing his hands up into the air exasperated. "To make sure that no one found out about us!"

"You ... You released them into the reserve didn't you? You're the reason why people are suffering from animal attacks?" I assumed sitting forward slightly in my chair. This explained all the strange attacks. All the disappearances. "They've killed several people... more people are going to get hurt! You have to put a stop to this, they are dangerous creatures!"

".. Oh you have no idea." He lowered his voice as he stood glowering at me. I began to feel uneasy once again, all the fear inside me came rushing back. I wasn't safe. He wanted me dead.

"Ugh! Why is your kind so stupid?!" He roared slamming his hands down on either side of the chair I was sitting in making me shut my eyes tightly and jump in fright.

"Please, I just want to go home."

Opening my eyes slowly I looked up into the face of my kidnapper who was now frozen petrified staring down at me as a look of pure horror etched across his face. A strange mesmerizing voice spoke amused from behind the kidnapper.

"So you're the human."
