With a gruff sigh, he looked around the rest of the house, yet to no avail. There wasn't a sign of an answer to the problem that had been placed in his hands.
Then, the realization hit him like a truck.
~
He was going to die, alone and unloved, completely and utterly forgotten. With this thought in his mind, numbly, he walked home, wondering why he even tried.
As he walked home, Antisepticeye passed by Seán McLoughlin's house. He was sitting on a couch with his wife. They were watching some TV show that he didn't care for, and as he stayed by the window and watched, one of Jack's children, a toddler at age, waddled to the door. He stared up at the demon, and for a second, Anti thought that he had been finally seen, that something he had done at Dark's place had made him noticeable again.
"You're right," Anti muttered gloomily as he opened the front door.
"About vat, brother?" the- former- good doctor asked.
"There's no point," he sighed, slouching on the old leather chair across from Jackieboy Man. Before this, the superhero would have smirked, said that he told him so, and would tease him about it for the next few weeks. But now? Now, there was nothing that resembled the former hero. He was just as much a civilian as any other regular mortal.
"I guess there's nothing left to do but wait?" the ex-hero asked. Anti sighed, nodded, and looked out the window at the sun outside, glimmering as the world went on.
The thing was, Anti could feel himself fading. It was like a pulsating somewhere deep in his chest as the edges of his vision became white. If he didn't know better, the feeling was almost... calming. Reassuring, even.
It was a beautiful day to die.
