《The Last line of Uchiha》Part 19

"A field trip, with the Academy, outside the village? That's a first." I say leaning against the doorframe of my sister's room.
"To where?" I asked my sister as she walks around her room packing her bag.
"The Land of Water," She says.
"Kirigakure!? As in the Village Hidden in the mist!?" I exclaim, giving my sister a shocked look.
"Yeah, why, what's the big deal?" Sarada asked continuing to pack her clothing.
"You do know the history of our villages correct?" I ask.
"Yes, of course, but why should that matter?" Sarada asked.
"Sarada, there are people in that village, who would rather see our village in flames and runes than as a striving nation," I say, making her pause her packing to look at me.
I give her a pointed look but she just scoffs and continues to pack.
"That was years ago Ukai, it has nothing to do with our generation, and we'll have Shino and Anko-sensei there too to watch out for us," Sarada says.
"Two retired, out of shape Jounin with a bunch of delinquent kids in a village full of sword-wielding maniacs." I begin chuckle to myself.
"What could go wrong?" I chuckle again, running my hands over my face before leaving the room.
"Hey, Ukai!" Sarada called after me.
"What?" I poked my head back into her room.
"You can't come." She folded her arms.
"What made you think I wanted to?" I ask walking the rest of my body forward so I could stand straight.
"Really? You offer, no insist, on walking me everywhere to make sure I was safe around the village, now I'm heading out to a new village and you don't know what kind of trouble I might get into. It wasn't a hard leap to make." Sarada lectured.

"Sassy, aren't we?" I narrow my eyes at her.
"You can't come." She added.
"Alright miss 'I can tack care of myself' I'll give that village and your class the benefit of the doubt this time, but you come back with even one scratch, and you will never leave this house unchaperoned again, Father's orders," I say smirking.
"Fine," Sarada nodded, seemingly positively sure she would win this.
"Hm," I hum, standing straight and folding my arms.
"Well then, take care, little brat," I taunt her before turning.
"Huh? Aren't you going to walk me to the gates?" Sarada put her hand on her hip.
"So you do like me walking you around," I smirk.
"HUH!? That's not it! I just meant that's what you always do so! You know what I mean!" She exclaimed.
"Hmm, I would, but I need to report to Lord Seventh, can't rely on you and Mother forever now can I?"
"You're moving out?"
"I'm 21 Sarada, I'll need my own life eventually," I say turning to look at her.
"R-right, of course, well, I guess I'll be off then." She says, grabbing her things and following me out the door.
She headed downtown, toward the gates while I headed up toward the Hokage office. I was strange walking threw the halls again, looking around at how little the building had changed. I walked toward the office door, looking down at one of the chairs lining the wall. A transparent younger version of myself appeared, sitting in the chair with an angry expression with cuts and scratches on his face before disappearing. I sighed, knocking on the door before it opened,
"Oh, Ukai," Lord Naruto's voice sounded.

"I apologize for the intrusion my Lord," I say looking around the stacks of paperwork.
"Gosh, all this paperwork must suck," I mumble to myself.
"Not at all, what can I do for you?" He asked.
"In regards to jobs, what is there to do for a highly skilled ninja? Apart from being a sensei, I mean, teaching... I don't think I have enough patients for that," I ask the Hokage as I walk around his office.
"Well, we still have missions if that would interest you. We may no longer have a desperate need for ANBU anymore but, we still use ninja such as yourself for certain matters." He answered.
"Hmm," I nod.
"What level would you associate yourself to be at?" Lord Naruto asked, rummaging through his draws.
"What level is my Father?" I ask.
The blonde Lord paused, looking at me over his paperwork before chuckling and continuing to dig through his draws.
"Here, Jounin promotion application, if you pass that, I'll see about the solo ANBU squad." He handed me a page.
"Solo squad?" I asked.
"The shinobi who are skilled yet prefer to work alone. We only call them in for dire situations so, you'll be free to take care of Sakura and Sarada as usual." He smiled at me.
"Wow," I breathe to myself looking down at the page.
"Thank you." I nod at the Hokage.
"Sure thing," He smiled again.
"It's too bad though, you not wanting to teach, I think you'd make a great sensei, given your knowledge on ninjutsu," Lord Naruto sighed.
"Not to mention the fact that you hate nonsense. If anything I'd die for you to be Boruto's sensei, teach that kid some restraint." He sighed.
"Hmm, I'll think about that one, who knows, beating~ uh, I mean, training, Boruto might benefit both parties someday," I smirk shrugging my shoulders and exiting the Hokage office.
Lord Naruto had a blank white-eyed stare on his face as he watched me leave before he let out a groan and his head fell to the table. I chuckled to myself, exciting the academy building and heading home. Tomorrow I would apply for the Jounin exam and start looking for my own place to live. I was a little shocked when I came home to a small apartment and not the nice house we had on the outskirts from my childhood, but after I heard what had happened, I let it slide. Accidents happen, I mean, this accident inconvenienced us as we now had nowhere to live and the only place open was this apartment building but I get it.
'ANBU solo squad huh?' I think looking back down at the page in my hand.
'Do they still have to wear masks like in the original ANBU? Because if that thing obscures vision, and I can't use my Sharingan properly all hell will break loose.' I add in thought.
I then shook my head at myself before entering the Uchiha home.

A Castle in a Teacup
One might say that to anger forces beyond the ken of fragile breakable mortals is a bad idea, others might say that meddling in dark forces with little chance of gain is also a bad idea, they would both be right by on all counts but they forget to mention also how incredibly stupid combining both of those things are. Stupid people don’t last so long on the mystic side of things, normal folks who wander over to the other side have a tendency to do one of two things, either A. figure out that the best thing to do is keep their head down and not draw attention from any entity that refers to humanity as “you mortals” , or B. something horrifying happens to them. As you may have guessed I fell into the second category, mostly because I thought there was a third option. See I though there must be an option C, an option where I got to end up not as some shitty back ally wizard cowering at the chance of discovery, praying that one of my wards or spells wouldn’t be noticed by something that goes bump in the night. No I would be the one who rose above all that. I would never have to be afraid. Well I made a good attempt at it that’s for damn sure, but unfortunately for me it turns out there is not an option C. At least not for me…
