《Taking My Heart (Completed)》28. Man Behind It

When Shane tells me that his next load is not ready to pick up until late tomorrow night, an idea sparks in my mind. Something I would like to ask him once we deliver this load.

Shane has to jump from the truck because the guy was done with the repair. They are talking and I see Shane add something into the truck.

I grab my purse and pull my phone out, sending a quick text to Gram to let her know by this afternoon I would be there to pick up my babies. Lola has responded to the text I sent her when I talked to Gram last and she is more than thrilled that I am traveling back with Shane. So I send her a quick response letting her know the same that I would be back tonight but I would talk to her soon.

The driver door opens and Shane is getting in his seat a moment later. I just now notice the hood is back down and the repair guy is taking off.

"That was fast." I laugh and put my phone back up.

"Not to long. All going well at home?" Shane looks over to me once he starts the truck up and watching the gauges.

"Oh yeah, I was letting Gram know that I should be back this afternoon to get Oreo and Fluffier." I smile.

Shane nods. "I bet you miss them."

"I do, but this has been so much fun spending time with you and going on a new adventure." I can feel my cheeks heat from a small blush.

"You make it seem like you don't take adventures." Shane glances over at me with a smirk.

"I really don't. You bring out a different side to me but I am loving it." I laugh.

Shane looks over at me and leans over, taking my hand. "I will give you all the adventures you could ever want."

I smile and kiss his lips. "Looking forward to it my trucker." I snicker with his shocked face.

"That just sounds weird."

"It does but something funny I get to call you. Though I have one question."

"What would that be little paws?" Shane smiles and puts the truck in gear, popping the brakes.

"Do you have a nickname for on the road? I heard things on that CB and there is no way those are peoples real names."

Shane full on laughs while watching the traffic we merged into. "No, I don't have a CB handle. Normally for me because I am all over it is just my last name they call out if they have something to say to me or thank me for something."

I nod. "It is all interesting."

As the road seems to flow under us, our talking goes onto getting to know each other more. It seems like I crave to know everything about this man and there is always something new to learn.

This time we are more on what we were like as children. Both of us were the older sibling and Shane seems to enjoy sharing fun memories with his brother. Not once has Tanker nudged him either.

I will listen to Shane talk for hours if I could. His deep voice how it rumbles just brings so much peace to me.

We had already stopped at a truck stop hours ago and was smart to grab things for lunch too. It is a little after noon when we arrive to the factory Shane has to deliver this load for. I sit in the truck when he puts the vest of Tanker who is not willing to stay with me, but I find it the best he sticks to the routine they have had.

I watch out the side mirror as the doors are open and Shane stands to the side where I can see him. The truck seems to shake some while they are getting things out of the trailer I guess. Now, I am glad I didn't eat much at lunch time or it may have came up by now.

The driver door opens and Tanker jumps in, with Shane sitting down next. He grabs a small container and puts his paper on top of all the others in it.

"I can get you to your Gram's next. I just need you to put it in this address for me." Shane gives me a sad smile and points to the GPS.

I put it in and see that we are actually a little under two hours away.

Shane puts the truck in gear and we take off since he didn't turn it off with me inside it while unloading things. This ride is a little more quiet and I think we are both trying to figure out what to say, but I want to surprise him once we pull up at Gram's with my question.

I see Gram's house already with how high I feel in the semi. With a glance over to Shane, I can tell he seems a little sad.

"You know just because I am getting my fur babies and car from Gram's doesn't mean our time has to end."

Shane takes a quick look at me. "I thought you wanted to spend some time with your grandmother after the journey."

I shrug even though I know he can't really see. "You could come in and say hello. Gram would love to meet you. Then I can give you my address? You need a place to stay for tonight, unless you rather have a hotel room to be alone since I know you're used to it. I just don't want our time to end if it doesn't have too."

"I didn't want it to end either, and since meeting you I don't like being alone." Shane smiles over to me.

"This is my address and there is a large open space beside my house since I have a little land, if my driveway isn't enough." I put it in the GPS just as Shane is stopping the truck in front of Gram's house.

At least there is plenty of room and this road makes a circle for him to get out easily. Gram is at the door with it wide open.

I get out of the truck and Oreo comes running towards me. I pet his head and get all the licks he can give, as Tanker comes bounding up with a trot.

Standing up I see Shane walk up behind me, I take his hand and we walk up to Gram's. She is smiling wide at us together.

"Gram this is Shane Thomas." I smile as she pulls me in for a hug.

"Well. Shane you are the man behind it all." Gram's gives a playful smile to him.
