《Taking My Heart (Completed)》21. Share Mine

The three of us have been on the road for a couple of hours now. We stopped by fueled up the rig before going in and getting food for ourselves along with drinks to last several hours. Samantha fell in love with the breakfast burritos they had out and couldn't believe the sizes they had for everything.

I glance over to her and she is looking at all the view as we pass by. Most of the time we have been on the interstate but there is still some views to be seen with the flat lands.

"Look over there." I point out when Samantha's head turns my way.

"Is that a tornado?" She gasps.

"Sure is." I nod.

"That thing can't be all that far away but it is so clear right here. Aren't we going to pull over somewhere for safety?" Her voice gets a little high pitch.

I shake my head and laugh lightly. "Nope. That twister is a good couple of miles away from us. The way the clouds are moving it won't come this way we are heading, because here is our cut off not far."

"Have you seen that before? Because you are way to calm." She stares at me with wide eyes.

"Yes, a couple of times. Trust me at first I had the same reaction as you are now. I spoke with many truckers that are locals to the areas like this with the flat lands and it is normally to see one from a couple miles out. It is all about knowing the direction of things though which helps to ease worry. Not that I am not a little worked up over it all but I just wait until it gets really bad for it to show." I smile over to her.

"I can still see it. That thing just seems to go away." Her voice sounds in awe over it.

"Probably disapating." I smile and glance to her again.

I move with the lanes as our split it up for the interstate section.

"It is still so amazing how you can do so much and make it seem flawless."

I catch her staring at my movements.

"Just something I know how to do. Like how you know way more than I do about animals." I smile and shift between gears with the traffic slowing us down.

"Sounds like you have a lot of training and knowledge yourself too. You're very wise for being twenty-five years old." Samantha smirks.

"Life throws curveballs that is for sure. If we are on that age topic though, I am the lucky one with a cougar in my rig." I smirk right back.

"That is just mean." She laughs.

"You're the cougar, little paws. Maybe that doesn't sound right together. Doesn't cougars have large paws?" I can't help but laugh.

"They are in the big cat family." Samantha smiles.

"Well you're no where near big. If anything you need a little meat on your bones. Still could be called a cougar though." I smirk over to her.

"I am barely a year older than you. So that surely can't count at all." Samantha laughs.

"I have never heard them put a label on it other than the woman being older than the man."

"So is there anything you don't know or do?" Samantha looks at me.

"Hmm, vet stuff." I laugh. "What about you?"

"There is a lot I would like to learn but I tend to stick to the veterinarian things. Even then there is still a learning curve I can do if I wanted too."

"So can you take care of all animals?" I ask curious.

"Not really there is some of the exotic pets I can't help. Now ferrets and gerbils small pets like that I can help."

"What is your least favorite animal to have to have as a patient?" I wonder glancing at her.

"A bull." She laughs. "In schooling there was that section and I got stuck with the bull and that thing was so mean."

I laugh with her and enjoy getting to know her even more.

"What about you? Least favorite place to deliver too?" She looks to me.

I look over to her. "Just as far as delivering?"

"Well if you want too or if there is anywhere that you didn't like being. I only know you as a trucker." She smiles.

"Okay so worst place would be hard while delivering. I do have the worst season I despise, which is winter where there is multiple feet of snow or ice."

"Can make it dangerous driving in all of that." Samantha nods.

"Not to bad, because I tend to stay away from those deliveries if I can." I chuckle.

The traffic has cleared up and there is just a few around us.

"You are the first person that I felt like I could trust outside of my family and Jovi." Samantha speaks low and I barely caught it.

I reach up and turn the radio off that has been playing to give some added background noise. Since I didn't know we were talking as much as we have to make it less awkward if we fell into silence.

"I am glad you feel like you can trust me. There isn't anything I like more than that and can honestly say I won't do anything to break your trust." I glance to her.

"I don't think you will or feel like you won't anyways."

I nod. "May I ask why you have seem to have issues with trusting people. Not that it is a bad thing especially with the way things are, but you seem to have a lot of wise words that seem like you have spoke from experience."

Samantha sighs. "You seem like you have experience with a hard past too. I meant what I've said before a person's story should only be told when they are ready. I'd like to share mine with you."

I nod when she talks over the hard past part. It makes my eyes go wide that she wants and feels ready to share her story with me.

"When I was sixteen somethings happened. For years after my sister was born, our father would go out, doing things. Anyways, after my sixteen birthday he got so mad because mom asked if he was cheating. The jerk trashed the house and took his clothes got in the car he owned and just left. It was a couple of weeks later mom got the divorce papers. She basically raised us on her own and had a hard time making ends meet."

Anger surges through me in a protective way over her.

"He got mad because he had another girl and he was so sure he was getting the boy he wanted. After my parents divorced I seen him a year later with another woman Then a couple years back found out he finally had the boy he wanted and treats his new wife and son like gold but wasn't there for us at all."

"So he cheated on your mom?" I try to ask calmly but I can tell there is anger in my voice.

"Not that we know of. Mom had followed him a couple of times while we stayed at Gram's and he was just working a side job at the factory instead of telling her and he hide the money he made. The boy he had was born two years after their divorce but I never met him. Every holiday our father will send a card to Gram's house and same for our birthdays. He tries to call on those days too but we don't answer."

I move my hand from the shifter and she moves her hand over to where I can hold hers in mine.

"I am so sorry that happened and he wasn't around." I glance over to her and wish I could get a hug or kiss her lips at the very least.

"I would like to be your boyfriend instead of just friends getting to know each other. As a couple we can still get to know each other because it is important too. I want just you to be mine and me be yours only. Will you do the honors of being my girlfriend?"
