《Taking My Heart (Completed)》18. Breath For Me

Slowly my body stops trembling. I feel so safe with Shane and he has been gentle this entire time with me. There is not enough thank yous in the world. Even though Shane didn't know it was me he is still out to help and it breaks through my barrier even more.

"Would you like to stay here with Tanker and me? You can sleep on the bed and I can get some sleep up here in the seat." Shane's voice is still gentle.

I hate the thought of putting him out. It hits me that he still has to work and here I have kept him awake for the second night in a row, shame and guilt start hitting me like this semi just ran me over.

"I am so sorry! This is the second night in a row I have kept you awake late." I look to him.

"Nonsense, it doesn't bother me in the least. You just seem like your getting tired with how your eyes are fluttering some back and forth." He moves to touch my hand.

I don't jerk away from his touch, like I thought I would have what just happened. Like I said through before and this proves it I feel safe with him.

"I didn't realize that." I whisper, and it is true but Shane is a good reading of people it seems like.

"The bed is right back here." Shane moves the curtain again and I can see it.

Guilt hits me and I know that I can't take his bed from him. I shake my head.

"What's wrong?" He whispers.

"I can't take your bed from you and honestly I don't know if I can sleep. If I do then I would wake you up probably."

"You're scared of seeing his face." Shane nods slowly, like he understands me in this moment with the worry of nightmares.

"How about I call a cab? Tanker and I can ride with you to the hotel." Shane gently asks.

"Will you just stay with me instead of riding with me there?" I ask weakly.

Shane nods. "I can if you're sure."

"I am sure." I try to smile.

I see Shane pulls his phone and an after a few minutes he gets in the back. Before stepping up front again with a small bag.

The taxi arrives ratherly quick and Shane helps me out of the truck, it seems like my legs still don't want to work right. Tanker has his vest on and Shane locks his truck up before getting in the car with Tanker and me.

I give the driver the hotel name and we get there in just a few minutes time with barely any traffic.

Together we get out of the taxi and Shane holds my hand with my body as close to him as I can get. I put the room key in and the door opens. With us inside, Shane closes the door and locks it up.

"You can lay your things where ever you want too." I whisper and sit on the bed, kicking my shoes off.

Shane joins me a moment later and I reach for his hand.

"Thank you so much for all of this. I am glad your being kind enough to do this."

"Samantha." Shane's voice brings me to look him in the eyes. "You don't have to thank me. I am glad that your safe but it does look like you have some wounds that need to be cleaned being able to see you in the light completely now."

He gets up and calls the front desk for a first aid kit, before joining me on the bed again.

"Are you always so kind?" I mumble.

"Not to this extent, but there is something about you that pulls me." Shane whispers.

He gets the door when they bring the first aid kit up, which is a little one that is disposable after which is handy. Shane goes over and cleans the cuts that I got from the fall and I can't help but watch him.

When he goes to the bathroom to throw things away, my hands start shaking and images of Greg holding me surface all of a sudden.

"Samantha, breath for me." Shane's voice whispers in my ear.

"That's it." He seems to come into view.

"Why did that just happen?" I turn into a sobbing mess again but this time all I can think about is Greg's hands on my body holding me down to his shoulder.

"It is panic, anxiety. Something I have been watching to see if you would go through more extreme than the shakes you had earlier. It is part of the normal reaction but you have to think that he is not here with you and you are safe." Shane's voice is soothing and calm.

I nod slowly.

"Come on let's get you laid down." Shane gentle moves the blankets back as I stand up.

I get under the covers and he goes to move to the couch off to the side. I grab his hand and stop him in his tracks.

"Please could you just lay down right here next to me?"

Shane nods and gets under the covers with his clothes still on as well. He lays on his back as Tanker jumps on the bed, and gets between our legs as he lays his head down over mine.

"He knows your emotions are all over the place." Shane watches Tanker.

Flashes still come up in my mind with Greg and how he looked.

"I can't get it to stop." I whisper.

Shane moves over and pulls me over into his arms, I lay my head on his chest.

"You will get through this because if there is one thing I know is that you're a strong woman." Shane's fingers rub up and down my arm where Greg grabbed.

"I need to take some defense classes." I try and joke, but I am serious at the same time.

"I can teach you if that is what you want to do." Shane replies.

I raise my head up and look at him.

"Really?" I ask, kind of stunned. I know he had a hook with that punched Greg took.

"Yes. I have training in alot of hand to hand combat." He sighs.

I don't ask anything further because things between us seem to come in bits and pieces. Which I think is best for us instead of telling everything at once, as we just get to know each other.

"When does your flight leave?" He looks at me and tucks a piece of hair behind my ear since I took it down before he cleaned my cuts.

"The day after tomorrow. It would have been tomorrow but by time I put in the flight there were no seats."

Shane nods. "There is some strong weather moving in this region tomorrow midday and night. So they will probably ground the planes for when your flight is scheduled for."

Well crap. "I didn't know that."

Shane nods. "I tend to keep up to know what the weather is doing for where I am at. How about you travel with Tanker and I? It would be different but we can get you back to Blue Sky's by the time you would have been leaving out for your flight back anyways. The load I got now has plenty of time to be delivered before it is actually scheduled for which is maybe two hours from your clinic."
