《Taking My Heart (Completed)》10. Here Goes Nothing

Another day of helping to make animals healthy or at least stay healthy. Oreo pads around the back before he lays on his bed. Fluffier is already laying there and lets out a small pur when Oreo curls around him. It brings a smile to my face because I hear all the time dogs and cats just don't get along.

All to which is not true if trained at a young age they can be the best of friends just like these too. It is more the temperment of the animal also, but mainly the owners if they put in the time and patience. Even older dogs can adapt to having a cat around just like older cats can adapt to having dogs around. It is the slow introduction is key and never let the pet you have had for the longest feel left out during the process.

People just tend to get to impatient. Many have to work for what they want because most things when it comes to animals do take time. If it is a fast thing then that is great for them but it is rare for things of that nature to be an overnight taking to it all.

I took tonight to stay with the animals in the kennels, since a couple of them are from my surgeries today. It has been an exhausting day to say the least. Right before lunch I had an emergency surgery to tend to on a dalmation because poor thing got into the trash can and ate paper towels. Which resulted in it getting blocked in his intestines. The owner was a sobbing mess but no on can blame her it is a very stressful situation and sadly not everything can be stopped.

Animals may never mess with something and then just do it one day because something catches their noses.

Lola and Jovi, like always were great in getting the schedule patients I had cared for. I know several of them Jovi seen but the rest got put on tomorrows schedule if it was not a need help today type deals.

With my food fixed, I sit at my desk to sort through files and add new ones to the large drawer. Everything is kept on the computer but the first papers for new animals that owners fill out, I keep in my desk drawer for if something happens to the software we use at least we still have the basics.

As I take a bite of my food, a paper catches my attention. It is Tanker's paper. The last four days since they left, I seemed to have gotten so much traffic through the clinic, that I have not had time to look over it again.

My hand touches my phone before I can even think. It is like I want to hear his voice and not just to have something to hear in my mind while in the shower either.

I genuinely enjoyed Shane's voice when he was here. Plus, I really do need to check on Tanker to make sure everything is still good and Shane hasn't had to find a vet for anything else since they left.

I shrug my shoulders and take a deep breath. "Here goes nothing."

With slow movements and looking at the paper to make sure I typed in the right number, I hit the call button.

My breath hitches as I hear it ring through the phone. All of a sudden, my hands get sweaty and my heart rate picks up speed, like I just ran a mile in a fast time frame.

"Hello?"

I can feel my cheeks warm with the instant blush that spreads from just his voice. While my heart patters in my chest, like it is happy again.

Something I seriously wish I could figure out the reason behind it, because I still don't really know the man in the least.

"Hi, Shane? This is Samantha from Paws Care Vet Clinic." I try to keep my voice level, but even for myself I can clearly hear the joy in my words.

"Hey, Samantha." It almost sounds like he is smiling over the phone with the way his voice sounds. Just like how it did when he smiled the once really wide while I was trying to get the kitten out from the shelfing the morning he left.

"How is Tanker seeming to do?" I try to at least ask the main thing I called about asked, before I turn into a stuttering mess.

What am I some teenager with a major crush?

"He seems to be doing great. Tanker let me help him in and out of the truck for a solid day before he just stopped waiting for help and just doing it himself again."

"That is great. Anymore slight limp or whining when he jumps in or out?"

I can hear when Shane hums lightly. "Nope none at all. Tanker does really seem to be enjoying the can food though. So, I had let him finish it up before going back to his kibble. I hope that is okay."

"Of course it's okay. It won't hurt him at all to finish up the can food before switching back. Just gives everything more time to heal and just try to slowly add on the kibble to not upset his stomach."

"Glad you called because I wouldn't have thought to do that."

I laugh lightly. "It was on the papers I had printed out for you." I almost whisper.

"Well I am bad about not reading things." Shane laughs.

I can hear a loud sound over the line and have to pull it away from my ear.

"I am sorry if I caught you while busy."

"Not at all. That was just the jake brake, it helps to slow me down and not make my brakes as hot to risk them smoking from getting over heated." Shane answers easily.

"That is interesting." I smile looking at Tanker's papers.

"Really?" Shane doesn't sound like he believes me.

"Oh yeah it truly is. Something new and different for me. It is also a way that I am able to have things. Got to appreciate everything, right?" My voice stays soft.

"You're something else Samantha." I could imagine Shane lightly shaking his head.

I wonder if he still has the scruff or he has shaved it off already.
