Chapter 46: Physical

There's this thing in our office that I hate wholeheartedly. All the employees are required to do a physical annually and for health insurance purposes also.

Every department has a schedule unfortunately for us we are scheduled this afternoon.

No offense but I don't really like going to the hospital. Well of course if I am dying yes you may bring me but if it is just a cold or cough Vicks Vapor rub will do the trick.

Last year the doctor "advise me to loose 10-15lbs "at least" as he said because apparently my BMI is on the overweight spectrum.

It is not like I am the only one can hear what he is saying. Everyone can hear him because the area was divided by curtains for privacy not an 8 inch wall that can at least muffled his voice.

"Well miss Hernandez It doesn't hurt if you can loose 10 to 15 pounds because you are a little bit overweight. Your eyes is on the severe side so I suggest surgery or a new prescription glasses.

Well over all you are healthy just increase your vegetable intake since your hemoglobin is borderline anemic. "

I don't want to experience that again. Ever.

So here I am pouting in front of my boyfriend in his office while he is scanning various papers and purposely ignoring me.

After a few minutes he sighs and say

"Love. You know you can't back out on that physical right? It is important that I know you and all my employees are healthy."

"But I don't wanna do it Gideon!" I whine "What's the use of you the owner being my boyfriend If can't get out of this thing." Yes I did go there. Sue me. I really don't want to go.

"No. You are going and that's final. If it will make you feel better I'll accompany you."

Heck no! Double the humiliation.

"Noooooooo...." I whined.

"Yeeeeeeeess.." he replied back in a higher tone mimicking my voice.

Someone knocked on the door. The door is a little bit half way open.

Scott entered the room slowly and his eyes are close. Why?

"Can I open my eyes now?" He ask.

"Are we playing hide and seek Scott? Why did you not tell me. Wait don't open your eyes! I did not hide yet!" I excitedly get up from the couch and quickly scan the office of Gideon.

Where can I hide. Bathroom and private room is too obvious. I land my gaze to Gideon who is looking at me blankly.

Aha! I know where I can hide. Scott will not see me at all. Gideon's expression change from blank to curious when he saw me smile deviously.

I walk towards him and I saw his face became amused when I push his chair a little bit backwards. His eyes widen when he saw me go down on my knees and crawl under his table. I sat comfortably then reach out to his chair to pull his chair back to it's original place.

I peek out and Gideon's face is red. Is he blushing? From what? Because I am near his knee and upper leg? Maybe he is ticklish and he doesn't want me to know.

God males are so weird.

Gideon cleared his throat I don't know why but I think when Scott heard him do that he opened his eyes.

"Sir are you alright? You're a little bit flushed. And I swear I heard the voice of Ms. Hernandez." I can hear Scott ask Gideon.

"Yes I am. What do you need Scott. And Ella apparently thought you are playing hide and seek."

"Oh I see. Okay I'll look for her later. These are the contract that we sent on the company that we will acquire for $35 million their lawyer already checked the whole contract and they will send the signed copies this afternoon or tomorrow morning-" I spaced out when they started talking about mergers, contract etc. I got distracted by a loose thread on Gideon's pants near his upper leg.

I reach out and try to tug it. I can feel Gideon's leg stiffen and I heard his breath hitch. He closes his legs on my hand to stop me from removing the loose thread.

Hihihi. He got shy. So cute.

Nope. I need to remove that it doesn't look good. With determination I push his legs apart and kneel so I can see clearly where the loose thread started. Thank God his table is big so Scott can't see me.

I lean over his leg to search for it. Aha! The thread is in the inner upper side of his upper leg. Gotcha!

I brush my hand on his inner thigh which elicit a moan from Gideon? Or maybe he is clearing his throat again and I just thought he is moaning?

I thug the thread repeatedly and I accidentally brush near his crotch but hey I got the thread remove.

"Are you really alright sir? You got more flushed and you keep clearing your throat. Do you want me to call your doctor?"

"No need. You're dismissed."

"Certainly sir. Ms. Hernandez is good at hiding. You won!"

Yey! I won! I did a sort of victory dance while kneeling and I got out of balance that my face smash to Gideon's thigh.

Whoops.

In one fast move Gideon roll his chair backwards and lift me from under the table by my armpits and deposited me on his lap.

He wrap his arms around me and burried his face on the crook of my neck and said

"You're very very naughty Love. You'll be the death of me I swear."

What did I do? naughty? So santa will not give me gifts this christmas?

After the incident at Gideon's office he sent me downstairs because he said he will take care of a personal problem then he went to the bathroom and slam the door hurriedly.

If he just said he has stomachache from the first I will go downstairs voluntarily and I'll not prolong my stay in his office.

I realize that's why he was sweating and flushed he needs to go number 2.

Here I am in line for the physical. I am waiting for my turn. There are 3 stations 1 they will check your height, weight and other measurements they can think off then you will answer a checklist from your food intake down to your activity everyday.

Next station is laboratories blood and x-ray and the last is where you can get your medications that was prescribe to you after the physical. Every station has a doctor so you can be evaluated on the spot when the results are in.

Females and Males are separated so on my side my coworkers chatter non stop and seems they all know each other and me yup smack in the middle of their group. How awkward.

Unexpectedly my Phone rings.

I took out my phone and saw Gideon calling

I know how to answer call Gideon taught me. The rest of the feature of this phone? I have no clue. Such a waste right? Right?!

I told Gideon that a keypad phone is enough for me but he just ignores me and distract me by convincing me that we still need to practice that spanish kissing or is it american kissing? The bottom line is I forgot my argument and we still did not do it perfectly according to Gideon so we need to practice more.

"Hello?"

"Love. Where are you?"

"I am in the office."

"I know but where? Are you in the clinics?"

"Yup. I am in line"

"Okay. I love you."

"You love me! We're a happy family with a great big hug and a kiss from me to you! Won't you say you love me tooo!!"

Gideon sang the last part with me.

I know he like Barney! He is just denying it! Since Spongebob is banned indefinitely I replaced him with Barney.

"See you love." Then he turned off the call.

"She is so weird. I mean I bet she is not really dating the boss and she's just editing those pictures."

"She can hear you Elaine!"

"I don't care. I dare her to complain to her fantasy boyfriend."

Here they go again! Is minding their own business not teached in their school? It is included in GMRC course right?

"I hope you are not gossiping literally behind my Girls back Ms.."

Gideon?? It is him! I know that voice! That is his normal tone outside our room. His professional, Cold, strict and butthole tone. He used that when he is dealing with other people except me of course.

I look back and sure enough he is there.

Gideon is glaring at his employees.

He reach out and flip the ID of the employee he is currently giving the lava degree.

"Ms. Stuart. Do you?"

"No-no sir." She denied. Wrong move sister. Gideon is practically a walking lie detector.

"So you mean I am the one who is lying Ms. Stuart?!"

"No-no sir."

"Is that all you can answer? There are so many words printed in the dictionary and you only know those two words?"

Other employees are trying to act aloof.

Pfft. They are not fooling anyone.

Okay that's enough. They learned their lesson already. I walk to where Gideon was standing and grab his hand and tried to pull him back to my line.

Key word. "Tried."

"A minute love. I am having an interesting conversation with one of your floor mate."

He sweetly said to me.

He needs psychological help I swear.

He leans down near Ms. Stuarts face and said loudly and threatening.

"Remember Ms. Stuart. No ivy league school can teach you manners. I'd rather hire an undergrad and inexperienced applicants than a stuck up bitch like you. Don't be complacent in your position. I can fire I'll not sack you since I have no grounds YET but remember I AM WATCHING YOU. So if I were you do your job well because one mistake and you'll find yourself jobless."

He stood up and straighten his suit jacket and glare to all the employees around him.

He glance down to me and smiled.

"Is it your turn now love?"

Bipolar person detected.

"Not ye-"

"It seems that it is your turn now. Come on love. I'll come with you inside. And no you can't back out."

I grumbled on the way in.

A mid 40's doctor with a young nurse greets us inside. Obviously they did not expect the boss will accompany me.

Same dude. Same.

Oh no. I look at Gideon pleadingly but he just nod his head to the chair.

I sat down and stoop down to remove my shoes but Gideon is already kneeling and he remove both of my sneakers.

He neatly place my shoes on the side and I hand him my phone.

I step on the scale and close my eyes because I don't want to see the result.

"I'll do that." Gideon volunteered.

He put my shoes first and tie it securely then proceeded to sit on the chair in front of me. He get the questionnaire from the doctor who is still puzzled why his boss is the one answering it and not me.

Heck Gideon knows almost everything about me. I don't need to say anything. He already knows what I need and wants. He is very observant.

After a few minutes he hands the paper to the doctor to evaluate. This is the worst part.

"Okay Miss Hernandez. It was written here that you got a new glasses so we will not test your eyesight anymore and according to the data we've gathered this year and the previous year it seems that your height increased by 1cm."

"You heard him Gideon? I grow taller!" I shouted with glee.

"So it seems love. I am happy for you. What an important achievement. We will celebrate later okay?"

I nodded in agreement.

"But your metabolism is still the same so you're weight also increased. You did not loose weight at all for the past year.

You need to loose weight-"

Fudge. This it. I want to cry. Truth hurts.

"Shut up. She doesn't need to loose weight. She is perfect as she is. Mention her weight one more time see what happens." The doctor became flustered as Gideon continued to glare at him.

"I - I am sorry sir. Well uhmm. Yes that's it you can go to the next room for blood works and Xray."

Finish? Wow now they will poke me with their needles. Ughh.

Last station Ella. You'll be alright.

Gideon stood up and grab my hand. We went to the next station. I sat down on the extraction chair as instructed by the staff. Gideon stood on my other side.

He squats and say

"Look at me love. Show me those beautiful hazel eyes I love."

I look at him with evident fear in my eyes.

"I'll buy you a double scoop of chocolate fudge Ice cream love for being brave. One last step okay?" I nodded.

I want that Ice cream so bad. I can do this! Be brave Ella.

The nurse tied that rubber thing on my upper arm and at the same time I squeeze the hand of Gideon.

After her warning I felt a very big insect bite like a wasp sting. I teared up just a little.

Gideon burries my face to his neck and whispers.

"Shh..It's alright love. It is done. Such a brave girl. This is nothing right? You recovered from your operation like a champ last year."

"I don't feel much pain back then because of the anesthesia they gave me and I am unconscious when they insert the IV. Now I am conscious and coherent. Big difference."

"

Gideon did not assist me in removing my clothes but he tie the string at the back of the disposable gown. I hand him my shirt and bra which he shamelessly fold properly in front of the 2 staff inside the room.

They position me in front of a plate that is attach to the wall.

Hallelujah I am done!

Gideon entered and he quickly remove my gown. He turns around when I was naked then faced me when I told him I am decent already.

"After this we will go to Dairy queen as promised. Okay love?"

I nodded.

Gideon guided me outside. The waiting area was bustling with employees male and female socializing with each other but when they saw us standing in the doorway the room got quiet.

As usual Gideon just ignores them and he drag me to a lone chair near the corner. He sat down and he pulls me down to his lap. Since it is 30 mins or more of waiting I might as well get comfortable. I adjusted my butt to his lap so I can sit more comfortably then then proceeded to lie on his chest so my face is lying on the crook of his neck.

"Good girl." He murmured.

I know what he meant. I am starting to ignore people's gossip about me. I am getting there but not yet. I hope I will learn how to defend myself but heck I don't really like confrontations. I stand by the saying keeping quiet will avoid more conflicts but I realize not all situation it is applicable.

"Can't I skip the physical next year?"

"I'll just let Ken do your evaluation next year. Don't listen to that doctor love You are perfect. Listen people have different body shape love. Even if your shape is like a twig or as round as a circle it doesn't matter. It IS NORMAL. Don't let the media or other people taint your body image. As long as your healthy that is enough. Yes you loose weight but are you happy? That is the most important part. Tummy rolls are normal. I'll get sad If I can't pinch them anymore. Do you want me to get sad?"

"No." I murmured. Sucks for you doctor! I really need to mass produce Gideon. His wisdom are awe inspiring. Maybe I can comvince him to be a speaker?

We stayed in that position in I don't know how long. To pass the time Gideon alternately play with my hands then glare at someone. I did not check who.

At one point he brought out his phone and we take a picture in which I reluctantly agreed.

"Come on love. Just one pic okay?"

"Only one?" I clarified.

"Yes. "

"Okay. Just one."

"Yey!" He cheered silently.

He focus his front camera in front of us and he proceeded to press his cheek to mine and murmured

"I love you."

Caught off guard I smiled and he took the picture.

He check his phone and said.

"It is blurred love. One more."

So he take a picture again but everytime it is always blurred. So I don't know how many picture did he capture before the picture became clear.

"You really should change your phone Gideon if it is always blurred every time we take a picture. "

"You maybe right love. I'll get to that later."

"Ms. Ella Hernandez please proceed to station 2 thank you."

That's me! Finally!

We stood up and went back to station 2. Another doctor was there and he was scrolling through a tablet. I know what you're thinking. Why does Ella an illiterate in technology knows what a tablet looks like.

I know their appearance but I don't know how to use them there issue cleared.

"Please sit down Ms. Hernandez."

He looks up but he was obviously taken aback with Gideon's presence.

He did not say anything. Good for him.

"Well your hemoglobin improved but it is a little bit low so I'll prescribed a multivitamins to increase it. Your Vitamin D result is impressive it seems like you are always outside."

I smugly look at Gideon. "See all my time in the pool is not a waste."

"Yes of course love but it is should be only early morning not until in the middle of the afternoon. Right doctor?"

"Yes Sir. Rosen-Hower you are correct. Mid afternoon you are more prone to UV rays. I advise you Ms. Hernandez to stay out until 10 am."

Now Gideon looks smug.

"To continue overall you are a healthy young woman. You can increase your fiber to help the multivitamins that I prescribed. The previous doctor noted in your file about your wei-"

"Do you want to continue your sentence doctor?!" Gideon coldly said.

"No sir.of course not. See you next year Ms. Hernandez. You can get your medication on the next station. Have a great day."

I thank the doctor and then we stood up.

On station 3 they gave me a bottle with multivitamins. I gave it to Gideon since he is my personal assistant. Hihihihi.

He is reading the label while walking "It says here love once a day after lunch So it means I need to bring this everyday on my suitcase." He stop and turns around.

"Where are you going?"

"I'll get another bottle. I want another one for our house. This one will stay in my office."

In Gideon's fashion he set an alarm on his phone for my multivitamins. I told you he's like a PA with extra step.

I got 2 hours left on my shift so I went back to the printing room.
