《Left Broken》Chapter Five

Addison entered the studio, looking for Jackson. The place was in a chaos. People rushed around, some carrying make up, some hurrying away with props. It was like any normal day. The studio was divided into smaller rooms for different sets. Green walls decorated them and multiple cameras stood around in the room. The huge studio was packed with people bustling around. It had always been her favorite place. She loved the crowded studios and the mess that came along with it. It reminded her of the days she started small in this very place. It helped mold her into the person she was today. No matter what she found great peace among the hustle within the place.
In the far left was a set, were she saw Jackson leaning against a pole staring at something ahead. She made her way to him, eagerly wanting to tell him about today. When she reached him she saw that with him were the Calvin Klein team and they were filming a blond model.
"Hey you made it." He smiled at her. "Yeah I said I would, didn't I." She replied and turned to watching the blond model pose in different ways. She wondered what his name was, though he did look a little familiar.
"Anyways, after the shot just show our face to the CK team. We need them to extend their contract with us and Addy you know that they have a great influence in the annual revenue. So work your charm woman. They clearly admire you so that shouldn't be too tough." He whispered in her ear. She chuckled at his compliments but knew that were true. Her reputation precedes her. She was well known in the advertising agency. She had worked hard for it and everyone knew that.
"Okay I'll do that." She agreed. He suddenly remembered and stepped closer to her. "How did it go? This morning?" He asked slowly, not wanting anyone to hear. She turned to him and winked. "I'll fill you in later." She whispered back. He groaned, hating the suspense and she giggled at him again. She knew he would sulk all the time till she did tell him. She loved to rile him up. He would always do the same to her.
The shoot went on for another twenty minutes. Meanwhile Addison went around engaging in small talks with the various brands in the studio as well as the crew members. She asked them about the work and if any glitches she could help with. It was not common for a CEO to come and speak to them on a personal level but Addison never found it odd. She always wanted what was best for the company and its members. It was how Maxwell would have done it too and she wanted to live up to his expectation. Everyone in MAC loved her and found it incredibly easy to work with her. She rarely got angry unless the person did a really silly mistake or if someone stood up against her credibility.
"Addy. Come here. They're done." Jackson called out. She walked back to him and smiled as she neared a ground of young people. They stood around her, shaking her hand cordially. CK was well known to have young associates, she always wondered why. They spoke for a while about the shoot and how they wanted to have a few advancements in the editing and the final video. She made sure her team took note of the required conditions and assured them they'd do it exactly as needed. They looked pleased and some of the young associates glanced at Addison with great appreciation. It was indeed a great deed to be standing in this position and thriving at it. The conversation lasted a few more minutes and after exchanging some more details they bid her farewell.

"I want to see the final edit before you send it to them." She instructed her team manager, who nodded in understanding and then trotted back to the set. She turned to Jackson, "Let's go to my office." She said and turned to leave but noticed the blond model was standing in front of her, staring at her with a sly grin on his face. She inwardly chuckled knowing very well where this was headed. But to maintain a good repo she smiled at him and offered him a hand.
"Hi, I'm Addison Carter." He eagerly shook her hand and held it for a few more seconds. "Andy Jens." He replied back. "You know I have heard a lot about you and how you run MAC, and I must say I am really impressed. Every friend of mine who comes here has nothing but praises for you. You really have done well." He stated and Addison knew this was a genuine compliment. She smiled back and waved her hand, "Oh thank you, but it wasn't all me, I had a lot of help." She replied in modesty. He grinned back at her and sent Jackson a look, wondering if this man would be standing here forever. "Oh pardon me, I totally forgot, this is Jackson, my close friend and colleague." Andy shook hands with Jackson but the handshake was firm and Andy sent him a hostile look. Jackson was used to all the glares by various men who tried to get into her pants.
She smiled back at Andy and waited for the obvious question. Jackson sent her a chuckle and watched in amusement. "So, now that the shoot is over would you perhaps like to join me for a cup of coffee?" He asked, faking politeness. She grinned and sent Jackson a fake glare. "Oh I'd love to Mr. Jens but you see I have a very important meeting with a few bankers so I'd have to take a rain check." She replied in sadness. Andy looked disappointed but didn't want to give up so soon. He wanted to be the first model to take her out and maybe to bed.
"How about tomorrow? I am in town for a few days with my buddy, so maybe then we can go for a coffee and talk more. It could you know be a date." He mumbled at the end, trying to be seductive but failed miserably. Jackson excused himself, and she knew well he had gone away so he could laugh to his heart's content. She hid her smile and stared at Andy with a straight face. "Oh that wouldn't be possible. You see I have to go to my daughter's school for a PTA meeting." She replied faking sadness. Andy's face fell when he realized she was a committed mother. He felt like an idiot for hitting on a married woman.
He coughed awkwardly. "That's ok; I think I may not be able to stay in town after all. Just realized I have a video shoot in, uhh in New York." He commented but Addison could hear the lie in there. She desperately wanted him to leave so she could hold her sides and laugh. "Anyways it was nice meeting you Mr. Jens." She smiled and waved goodbye, watching in amusement as he looked down in grave disappointment and loss. She was so used to this that it had because a daily routine. She knew she was a beautiful women and everyone wanted her. But she had made it her rule to never date any model or someone related to her profession. She hated it when it got complicated. She thrived on the concept of 'Don't mix profession with pleasure.'

Jackson met her at the exit and sent her an amused smile. She burst out in laughter and he joined in. After a few minutes she composed herself and they began walking to her office. "You know Addy, this never gets old. All those poor young models have tried to get into your pants yet somehow you always resist. I hate to admit but some of them are really good looking." He said. She shrugged him off. "You know me. I am not into them." She replied. He nodded and they quickly made their way. Once they reached the privacy of her office she instructed her secretary that no one must interrupt them. Jackson settled himself in an armchair and waited for Addison to talk.
"I fired Alexia today because of her arrogance and incompetent behavior though I wished it were someone else who got sacked. But that's not as important as this." She began as she walked to her desk.
She reached into her drawer and extracted a file. She sat down opposite him and sent him a serious stare. "Jackson, there is something I haven't yet told you. It came to me just a few days back and until this morning I didn't know it was a serious issue. This came from the accounts office and there were some transactions that didn't quite fit in. Small in size almost untraceable, but I was a little upset about the issue with Trent so I went through the entire file from accounts and came across this." She handed the file to him and watched him as he took a look at the contents in it. As expected his expression changed to disbelief. She knew sharing this with him would help her to track the culprit faster.
"Addison, if your calculations are right around five million has been sent to various unregistered accounts for the past three years. Wow that's a lot. Did you send this down to the tech guys to track this account?" He asked looking up at her. She sighed and leaned back into the chair. She closed her eyes, suddenly feeling very tired. "No Jackson. I am not sending it there. I am going to investigate it outside the company. I don't have anyone I can trust in tech. So I have already done the necessary measures, I just wanted to let you in on the issue." She explained.
"I have a pretty good idea who's behind this." He mumbled. "Trent Davis." She replied with malice laced in her voice. She despised that man and couldn't wait to kick him out. "Why don't you just fire him Addy?" Jackson asked, rubbing his hands in desperation. "No I won't. Not until I get to the bottom of this and catch every single person involved." She said. Getting up she picked up the file and walked to the safe in the desk. After safely keeping the evidence away she walked to the door.
"Come on. Let's go. We are meeting Jade for lunch aren't we?" She asked. When he heard her name his face lit up like a Christmas tree. She giggled and he blushed. This couple were truly in love and sometimes she hated to admit it but she was awfully jealous of her friends' happy married life. Something she could never dream of. And just like that the pain seeped in. By now she thought it would have reduced but every time she looked at a happy couple she was reminded of the love she never had. What she would give to get that love. But she now she was scarred and would never be able to fix herself. She sighed and exited the room with Jackson behind.
As they reached the ground floor, they walked to the main entrance. They passed the coffee shop to the right and something made her stop. She felt like there was a need to turn. Like someone was watching her. A small itch, like the feeling on the back of your neck made her to turn and look. As she was about to turn Jackson took her hand.
"Come on. The car's here." And just like that she shook that feeling away and let him guide her out. That feeling remained but she forced it away, knowing and understanding the impossibility of it. Maybe she was just too stressed. She decided to put away her problems away and enjoy a god lunch with her friends.
Landon let out a loud sighed when the director yelled pack up. He was tired and desperately wanted some coffee. Today's shoot was really tiring and he was exhausted. But still the satisfaction of completing the shoot with no worries and having done it well always made him happy. When it came to work he was absolutely committed. He wanted to be perfect and made his reputation around this fact. Everyone knew Landon Spencer was a great person to work with because of his famous outlook while working. The only problem he had was that he could never be on time for any shoot. Even if he tried something or the other would make him late. But e made up for this flaw with efficiency.
"Sir, I am going back to the hotel as there have been a few adjustments to your schedule. I'll give you the details once it's confirmed." Cole stated in a serious tone. Landon nodded at him and watched him leave wondering what he would do if he didn't have Cole as his PA.
He turned and noticed Alicia watching him intensely well aware what was on her mind.
"So what's your plan for the rest of the day?' Alicia asked him, he noticed the hint she was sending him. He stood next to her and sent her a smile. They would usually meet up for drinks which would eventually lead to a night cap. She was a beautiful girl and Landon was never a person to turn away such an advance. He was always welcome to a quickie and if the girl was as willing as Alicia then who was he to say no. And besides it was nothing serious, according to him they were doing each other a favor. So he sent her a wink and watched as the inevitable blush colored her cheeks.
"Will you join me for drinks tonight? The usual?" He whispered seductively. She bit her lip and he found it quite amusing. Her reaction to his voice was always the same. He had always wondered why all the women he was with were so easily ready to sleep with him. He felt disappointed when the girl was never hard to get. But he shrugged it away and went back to wooing Alicia. After promising to meet at a local bar he bid her farewell and made his way to the parking lot. He sent a quick message to Andy saying he'll be there in a few minutes and asked him to give his name at the entrance of MAC and got into his car.
He drove his way through the London traffic and reached the entrance of MAC in record time. He was allowed in by security as Andy's associate and he quickly found a place to park. Whistling he entered the building enjoying the attention thrown his way especially from the women. They ogled him and when he winked they squealed. He ginned at them and signed the autographs books sent his way. This was the thing about fame; he never got tired of it. Being someone's desire was something he always loved to be. His big male ego loved the attention.
"Ok that's enough. Let him breath guys." Andy came up and shooed away the rest. Landon chuckled and slapped his back. "You're just jealous of the attention I get." He said, knowing well that it always ticked off Andy. "Yeah right. You wish buddy." Andy mumbled, leading them to the coffee shop near the entrance. They found a seat at the extreme corner where no one could see them but they had a clear view of the entrance. They placed their order and settled down.
"So how was the shoot?" Andy asked him. "You know same old. Tiring but I managed to finish it of today. No need to go back for retakes. You know how much I hate it." Landon replied. Andy nodded in understanding. "So did you meet Alicia? He wiggled his eyebrows making Landon chuckled. "You bet I did, and guess who has plans with her tonight?" He joked. "NO way. Dude why do you always go with her when you are in London? Is it serious? You'd tell me right if it were serious?" Andy asked him, confusion sprawled on his face.
"Of course. You'd be the first to know if the famous Landon Spencer was hooked. Alicia, she's just the usual stop in London nothing else. I am not into her like that." He shrugged acknowledging the waitress as she served their drinks. "What about you Andy did you get to mix business with pleasure with the sexy CEO?" He inquired and laughed when Andy sent him a sad look. "No bro, turns out she is a married and to add to it a mother. You know I don't mix up with committed mothers, it's just too much drama." He sighed, sipping his coffee.
"But Landon, she is beautiful beyond measure. I haven't seen anyone as sexy and hot as her. She really can take your breath away." Andy stated a dreamy expression plastered on his face. "If only she wasn't married." He whispered. Landon chuckled at his friend but understood his feelings. He respected Andy and loved that he was a guy who would never jeopardize a woman who was married. It was just too much drama and downright unethical. Landon raised his glass, "To the many women we can't have." Andy chuckled sadly and clinked his glass.
"Anyways now that you have plans for the night, do you mind if your poor, lonely friend can tag along?" Andy asked giving him his best puppy dog face. Landon laughed and nodded. "Sure man anything for you, but just you know, get your own girl later." He said. Andy nodded and they fell into a silence enjoying the fine hot coffee. "Landon I need to speak to Harry about----" Landon tuned him out when he caught sight of something.
Or someone. She has just stepped out of the elevator and was making her way to the entrance. With her was some guy and they were walking pretty close to each other. Landon's heart raced as he looked at her. His eyes felt like they were playing games on him. He never imagined he would see her again. It was like a dream and he wondered if he was just imagining her. She was so beautiful, just like he remembered. He soaked in her beauty and the past flashed by his eyes. He wanted so badly to run to her and hold her like he used to.
He suddenly felt alive like his life had a meaning. She had always been his desire and looking at her from afar, that desire surfaced to the brim. This was a sign. He didn't know what she was doing here but he knew this was fate and they were meant to meet. He watched her stop before the exit and he got on his feet, slowly walking towards her. He knew she was about to turn and he wanted to be there when she did so she could see him clearly. He smiled as she took a stepped back. But just then the other man with her held her hand and guided her out to a waiting car.
Landon fisted his palm and anger surged through him. Who was that man and how dare he hold her like that. He desperately wanted her to see him, let her know he was right there. The love they had shared flooded his mind and memories overwhelmed him. A tear fell from his eye and trailed down his cheek. He wanted to run after her car and catch up with them but just as he took another step he felt a hand on his shoulder holding him in place.
"Hey man. You ok. You totally ignored me and then just got up and left. That kinda hurt my feelings." Andy said and stepped in front of him. He noticed the tear and a worried expression crossed his face. He held Landon shoulder and searched his face for any sigh of injury. "Hey Landon, buddy are you okay?" He asked worriedly. Landon finally meet his eyes and shook his head, he whispered in a dejected tone.

8 180Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
8 258The End of Disappointment
What happens when the hero's journey ends with disappointment instead of happily ever after? Ghost. Butcher. Murderer. Some men attract names like flies, and Ryu Ishida unfortunately finds himself among their number. Once the son of a noble house, he knows firsthand what the quest for power in the world of the Rings can do to a man’s mind, yet he can only continue down the bloody path he started long ago, hoping that at its finish, he’ll find the end to his disappointment. Four hundred years after a portion of humanity was ripped from Earth and thrust into a world of magic, monsters, and swords, whatever cruel gods rule the Rings are stirring once more, and with them comes the chaos of progress. Monsters roam the land. Corruption breeds unchecked. Murderers slay their way to the heights of power. Ryu’s life could only be described as disappointing. Updates: 2-3 times a week. *Author Note: This story does not continue with the paint by the numbers Class LitRPG system for long, so while it technically is LitRPG, it is definitely on the less traditional side (or so I hope). Also, the cover art isn't mine.
8 282Shieldmaiden: Unbroken
An instant is all that's needed to change a persons life. A single encounter. A single desire can bring together many people to change the world. One thought. From the moment humanity began its course of self-destruction, there were those who desired to change the world for the better. To stop the harm to their planet, and themselves, a group of people came together and formed a world from their imaginations. They decided that humanity could not be a part of the world they would destroy, and would allow the world to recoup. They would pull the people from their world in groups, and until everyone was gone, every month more people would be brought to this new world. An unfamiliar world. An unfamiliar people. An unfamiliar system. I never expected to write a LITRPG, or an Isekai, and I'm not confident I can do it well, but I liked writing the first chapters, so I'm gonna try my best! Also, I don't recommend reading it on mobile.
