《BadBoy Tutor》Chapter Forty

I knocked softly on the door and waited for a response. The door opened with Amanda who was filled with tears. "Oh my god." She whispered as she hugged me. I instantly hugged her back as she cried into my shoulder.
"Sam I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry-"
I shook my head. "Its ok." I replied but she was having none of it. She pulled back with the most guilt stricken face I have ever seen.
"No its not." She sniffed, wiping her nose with a tissue. "This is all my fault."
I shook my head again. "Amanda it is not your fault. You couldn't have known."
She sighed heavily. "I-I"
I pulled her in for another hug as we just held onto each other tightly. "Can I see him?" I asked and she nodded profusely, letting go of me. She moved out of the way so I could step into the room.
The room was huge, with a few chairs surrounding it and a large bed in the middle. Ellie was asleep in one, leaning her head on the mattress as she clutched onto her brother's hand and my heart panged for her. "I'll give you guys some time alone." Amanda said as she picked up a sleeping Ellie before she left the room. I smiled gracefully and she nodded, closing the door behind her.
It was then I saw him for the first time. He laid there peacefully as his chest rose up and down softly. "Hey Reecey." I whispered as I took the seat Ellie was previously in. There was a tube attached to his chest and there was a large monitor next to him. A huge bandage covered his bullet wound and the covers rested just over his legs.
I picked up his hand and clutched it tightly. "I'm sorry I didn't visit sooner. I kinda went a bit crazy." I chuckled lowly, wiping a tear with the hand that wasn't holding Reece's.
"I have no idea if you can even hear me right now and in a way I kind of hope you can't because I know you hate all this sappy shit." I chuckled again. "God I miss you. That week without you felt like hell." I sniffed.
I stoked his knuckles with my thumb, they were slightly grazed and red. "It felt like a terrible breakup. I wanted to speak to you so bad but I didn't know what to say and you would run away from me every time I was nearby. Do I smell or something?" I joked lightly, stroking his hand.
"When I saw you at Cole's party, it hurt. It hurt a lot and as much as I tried to not admit it, you made me fucking jealous. Ever since you started tutoring me, as much as I denied it to not only our friends but also myself, I started falling for you. I mean, how could I not? Don't get your ego up here but you are the one of the kindest, smartest and funniest people I know. Do you remember when I first came to your house after my fight with Amber?" I asked.

"I thought you looked so adorable playing with Ellie and it showed me a real sweet side of you." I giggled. "Not that you would be happy with me saying that. Or when you looked after me after that party at Jake's."
I shook my head, giving up on wiping my tears as they slid down my cheeks. "Why did you have to be a hero?" I cried. "You should have let the bullet hit me. I might not have been as bad of as you."
Taking a deep breath, I Squeezed his hand and I carried on. "Failing maths was the best mistake I have ever made. When I found out you were my tutor, I was fuming. I remember seeing your face and you looked even angrier than I did." I laughed sadly. "But then we became friends. We became friends so fast it was actually scary at the time. I don't know how you feel Reece, I don't know if you like me back or if I'm just a friend to you but I'm ok with either. I honestly am. Becoming friends with you was the best thing that happened to me and I wouldn't change it for the world."
I took another deep breath and closed my eyes. Here it goes, I would finally tell him. "But the truth is, I love you. I love you so fucking much it overwhelms me. We've only known each other for four months but it feels like so much longer. That kiss we shared was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced. But I also love you as a friend. You've been the best friend I could ever ask for. You were there for me when I was down, you were there for me whenever I needed you. You never asked, you never complained. You were just always there and for that I'm so grateful."
I tiled my head as I examined him. From his soft looking dark, slightly curly hair that sat on top of his head, all the way down to his extremely attractive face. Even in this position, he still looked angelic. "I love every single thing about you. To some people, you may be a delinquent or even an asshole." I smiled. "But to me you're perfect and I wouldn't change a thing about you. Well maybe how good looking you are because that's kind of annoying and completely unfair on all other guys." I joked and chuckled quietly to myself.
"Please come back to us Reece." I snivelled. "You saved my life. I would have never got out of there if it wasn't for you." I held onto my necklace tightly, the one Reece had got me for Christmas which I had put back on this morning. Thankfully, I had taken it off to go to Cole's party when I was mad at Reece.

"I don't know what to do without you." I whispered so quietly I could hardly hear myself. I heard a knock on the door and I quickly wiped my tears.
"Yeah?" I called out and Amanda came back in with Ellie still asleep in her arms. I was about to let go of his hand until I felt something move.
My eyes widened as I looked down. I assumed I just imagined it but then I felt it again. His little finger was ever so slightly moving against my hand. "Oh my god!" I explained with a huge grin as I turned to Amanda who was looking at me strangely.
"His finger moved!" I beamed at her and her eyes widened, running out to get the nurse.
"Come on Reece! I know you can do it." I exclaimed as the nurse and Reece's doctor, the top doctor in our state that Amanda had paid for especially, ran in and I was forced to drop his hand. I stood with Amanda watching as the doctor examined him. He turned with a smile on his face. "That's a good sign in all coma's. Once something moves, it's only a matter of time before they wake up."
I jumped up in happiness as a large grin stretched on Amanda's face as we hugged each other. "Come on son." She smiled as we watched as his little finger moved up and down. Jake burst through the door with his arms filled with food as he took a double take at our expressions.
"What? What happened?" He asked with furrowed eyebrows as Amanda explained to him.
"Holy shit." He grinned as he placed the food down and ran over to us. He gave me a soft smile and I returned it, I needed to talk to him later. And then the four of us, including a very sleep deprived and confused Ellie jumped up and down in each other's arms.
Hours passed and were still all sat on the seats, watching Reece intently. Cole had come in now from waiting outside as I sat beside him on the leather chairs. This room was so fancy that instead of average seats, there were big leather arm chairs. Ellie sat on my lap with a teddy clutched in her hands as she fell asleep in my arms. She was dressed in her little dressing gown and pyjamas. It began to get late and visiting hours were nearly over but none of us made an effort to move.
Shortly, the nurse came in and told us family only could stay but Amanda being a fucking icon convinced her to let us stay. Cole had rung Jodie to tell her the good news which was then passed on throughout the house.
It was only a matter of time.
I turned to the side and saw everybody had fallen asleep but me. I stood up from my seat, placing Ellie back on her mother and walked closer to Reece, sitting on the seat I was on earlier. I held his hand lightly as I gave it a squeeze. "Come on Reece, when are you ever slow at anything?" I whispered with a chuckle afterwards.
What I didn't expect was for my hand to be squeezed back, and then his eyes opened slowly. "Hey Sammy." He whispered, ever so quietly.
My eyes widened so fucking wide and my jaw dropped before a wide grin appeared on my face. "Oh my god." I cried of happiness. I turned around to alert the others but he held my hand to tightly I turned around. "Wait." He whispered.
I furrowed my eyebrows at him, but I couldn't wipe the smile off my face even if I tried. "I'm sorry."
I shook my head with a grin. "For what?" I whispered back.
He squeezed my hand gently. "For not talking to you, I-"
"Holy fuck!" Jake yelled as he ran over to us, waking everyone else up. I let go off his hand as I let his mum go over to him. She had to stop Ellie from jumping on him in pure happiness as I watched with a wide smile at everyone's faces of happiness. The nurse burst through the door and instantly scolded us for overwhelming him. We all hugged each other as Cole called everyone to tell them he was awake.
I heard Jodie Scream even though it was the middle of the night as she ran around my house telling everyone. I muffled a laugh as I heard Belle scold her for screaming so loudly in her face, before screaming Elliot's name in happiness. The nurse leaned over Reece and began doing checks but his eyes didn't leave mine as he intensely stared at me.
I love you.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above.
