《Distraction》Escape plan

Steve and Bucky continue to scope out hallways and take down any enemies coming their way as best they can. They find a small locked door and Steve turns to Bucky. 'We're running out of options'
Bucky kicks the door and you all head inside. They barricade the door from the inside and look around frantically. You were alone in here. The room was dark apart from the box in your arms that was glowing a hint of blue.
'Daisy...' Steve says softly as you continue to cling to him.
You look up to meet his gaze, even with the super soldier serum, he was stressed and starting to get tired, you go to lower yourself down but Steve hardens his grip onto your thighs, not hurting you but just keeping you close to him firmly.
'I don't have to put you down. I just want to check you're okay'
Bucky now comes up next to Steve to look at you, sympathy washed across his face, but panic was embedded in his eyes.
'I'm not going to help you by acting like a joey in a kangaroo pouch...' You mumble before pushing yourself off of Steve and getting down. Your feet wobble but you try and keep yourself steady.
'I'm okay...' You try to reassure them.
Bucky and Steve share a worried glance but you don't catch it.
'What's the plan?'
'We have to get out of here' Steve announces.
'Well I guessed that bit!'
Bucky grins a little. 'There she is'
You give the best smile you can back. 'Whatever the hell is in this box, a lot of people are willing to risk everything to pry it back from us'
'Well we did steal it' Bucky confesses.
'It was the mission' Steve corrects him.

'Okay. So, the plan. Escaping, how we doing that?' You redirect the conversation back.
You all search the room for something, anything. Then you spot it.
'Guys!' You whisper out as loudly as you can without causing too much noise.
They walk over to you and you open the dusty box you found in a pile.
'Look!' You point to the uniforms spilling out of it.
'Hydra?' Steve says as he reads out the tag.
'Worth a shot' Bucky agrees.
'Plus. You know...we're all still half naked'
'Good point' Steve nods and the three of you suit up.
The three of you un-barricade the door and try and come up with a plan.
'No!' Steve says In annoyance.
'Steve...'
'I'm not being away from you Daisy. No'
'It's a good plan, pal' Bucky tries his best to help.
Steve takes a deep breath and cups your face. He could see the pain in your watery eyes you were feeling from the encounter with that man and Steve's blood begins to boil. 'It's my fault you're here'
'And yet if I stayed outside I would have been assassinated with all the others. Yet I'm here, with you'
Steve gulps and presses his forehead against yours. 'Fine'
Bucky pats Steve on the shoulder and pulls you into a hug.
'We can do this' You say as you try and convince yourself.
'Find an escape route and meet back in here in ten minutes' Steve confirms.
'Ten minutes' Bucky repeats.
'Til the end of the line'
'Til the end of the line'
'Til the end of the line'
Bucky leaves first. You go to follow after 30 seconds but Steve grabs your wrist and pulls you into a kiss. It was hard and desperate. Your hands muddled into his hair for a brief moment snd then you compasses yourself and pull away.

'I love you Rogers'
'I love you too, Future Mrs Rogers'
Steve pulls the ring out of his pocket and holds out your hand. 'May I?'
Tears well your eyes. 'I never should have taken it off'
'I understand why you did' Steve says sadly as he slides the ring on.
'Now Captain, let's do this so we can get the hell out of here'
Steve gives you one more kiss 'Yes Ma'am'

The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
