'Daisy!' Bucky storms into Steve's house but you were oblivious. Dancing around in the kitten to the radio. Rum & Coca-Cola by The Andrew sisters had just peaked to number one in the charts and you were swirling your body side to side while throwing chocolate chips into cookie dough batter that you were mixing.
You spin around and jump at the sight of Bucky. Dropping the bowl In shock, it smashes all over the floor, including onto your feet.
'Fuck!' You scream out in pain as you look down, shards of glass splintering into your feet.
'Daisy Jesus Christ!' Bucky rushes over treading carefully over the glass.
'Let me lift you over the...'
'No!'you should out frantically.
'Daisy you're bleeding! Bucky panics.
'I Uh...I have no underwear on' Your face instantly turning red with humiliation.
That's when Bucky realises you're in one of Steve's shirts.
'Dammit. Okay, pull and hold onto the shirt. Lower it as long as you can. I'll fireman lift you. I won't see a thing'
'Okay...' You say awkwardly looking down.
Bucky reaches over and hoists you up as you tug down on the shirt. He holds the back of your calf's as careful as he can as he slings you over his shoulder before putting you down on the sofa and grabbing the first aid kit.
'Dammit Daisy you've really got to be more careful'
'You're blaming me?! This was your fault!' You scowl at Bucky.
'This may sting' Bucky admits before he puts some antibacterial gel in his hands, and then gently massaging it into your feet.
'Ahh!' You shriek out.
'Daisy I need to get these few shards of glass out'
You nod. Closing your eyes and squeezing them shut. You grab a sofa cushion and take a deep breath.

'Okay...one...two...'
'Fuck! Bucky!' You scream out in pain as Bucky pulls the shards of glass out. Careful not to split them but quick enough to make it easier for you to handle.
Bucky then bandages the cuts that cover the top of both of your feet. They start seeping with blood immediately. Bucky rewraps firmly. Putting more pressure on the wounds this time.
'Why're you here Buck?' You cry out as you squirm in pain.
That's when Bucky remembers.
'We have to go!' He shouts now desperate. Pulling you up off the sofa.
'Buck, I don't think I can go anywhere like this!'
'It's Steve...' Bucky blurts out.
You feel your stomach drop. You go instantly pale. You look up to see the panic on Bucky's face. Except it wasn't from you cutting your feet anymore. This was something else. Something more worrying.
'What is it?' You can hardly put out. You could feel your whole body starting to tremble.
'He Uh...'
'Oh my god...' tears fill your eyes. 'He's dead?!'
'What!? No. No. He's not dead' Bucky reassures you.
'So what...'
'He's been injected with the serum. He's currently in the chamber. I wanted to get you before he came out'
'I'm sorry, what?!'
'Come on Daisy there's no time to explain!' Bucky drags on your arm. Your feet swollen and sore with every step.
'I need to get dressed!' You gasp out to Bucky.
Bucky quickly darts up the stairs, knowing it would take you too long. He comes back down with a pair of black trousers. They were Steve's. But it didn't matter in that moment, Bucky just had to get you to Steve. And fast.
You barely get change to do the zip up on the trousers before Bucky is tugging on your arm again and leading you out of the house. You don't even lock the door.

You get in the truck and set off. You manage to slip on your shoes on the drive there but are unable to do up the laces. Your feet in too much pain, Bucky is driving well over the speed limit until you come to the training centre.
You get out of the car and walk with Bucky towards the entrance.
'Pass?' The officer on the door asks.
Bucky lifts up a piece of plastic and the officer scoots to the side gaining you entrance to the building.
Bucky helps you walk down the big flight of stairs. Your eyes fill with tears at the sharpness you feel with every step.
'Sorry Daisy' Bucky sighs, realising from the small whimpers you were making just how much of a mess this situation was.
'Daisy! Good to see you!' You hear Howard's voice call out.
Even in Steve's clothes, you still managed to look as dainty and pretty as ever. You had tucked stage's shirt into your trousers to give yourself a bit more figure.
'Where is he?' You pant out anxiously. 'Where's Steve?'
'Follow me...' Howard exclaims as he leads you towards a giant chamber that smile was coming out of.
'He's inside?!' You gasp.
'20 more seconds, you came just in time' Howard says confidently.
Three beeps blare out of the machine and the doors open.
You jaw practically hits the floor. A man stumbles out. Golden hair. Abs and muscles protruding all across his body. At least six foot tall. His head hung low, barely able to keep himself up.
'Woah take it easy!' You hear Bucky call out as he rushes to the mans side.
'Who...what?' You were completely dumbfounded.
As the man opens his eyes and lifts his head up. You're met with the familiarity. 'Steve?!' You say almost in denial.
'Daisy!' Steve says softly before collapsing to the floor. Blacking out.

Death, Aralt realizes, might be the greater mercy. ---------------------------------------------------------- What to Expect: Character-driven Plot Novel Pacing (which I accept isn't typical for serials) Elaborate Worldbuilding (you gotta pay attention) Soul-bonded Swords Sentient Wolves Longish Chapters What Not to Expect: Litrpg (sorry!) Harem (not sorry!) Magic System Short Chapters Dancing Bears (at least so far) Seriously, this is a second-world low fantasy/science-fantasy featuring a strong, but flawed male protagonist, a cheeky teenage boy that’s driving him crazy, a wee bit o’ Scots flavor, and a whole lot of culture clashing. I’m preparing to relaunch this story on Kindle once the second and third books are ready and I’d love some feedback as I move through those revisions. I'm serious about the feedback. All comments are welcome. I'll name a characters after you. And kill them, if you want. :) Oh, did I mention soulless assassins and cannibals? Yeah, Aralt’s day is not getting any better. cover image by brosedesignz
