《Distraction》Your in love with me?

The next morning you wake up and groan in annoyance. Your head was thumping. You saw a glass of water and a tablet with the note 'take this' on your bedside table. Your fathers handwriting. You popped the tablet in your mouth and gulped. The water went down your dry throat and made you feel a tad more refreshed.
You got yourself into the shower, you didn't want to use up a lot of hot water so you quickly washed your hair and face before stepping out.
You brushed your teeth vigorously and braved to head downstairs.
You put on off the shoulder flowing top on with some high waisted denim shorts. You take a deep breath and headed down for some breakfast. Your stomach growled as you reached the bottom of the stairs. Even with the ridiculous hangover, nothing would come between you and your love of food.
"Morning Petal" Your father spoke out to you. A newspaper was covering his face so you couldn't figure out his facial expression. His tone was pretty normal and he used his nickname for you, so you guessed he wasn't as mad as you were expecting.
"Morning, do you fancy pancakes?" You stutter out. You couldn't hide the dryness or raspiness of your voice from last night. It was sore from the crying snd shouting. You did your best to clean up your face but your eyes were still bloodshot and puffy.
"I'll make them, you sit" Your father announces. He closes the newspaper and gets up. Walking towards you and putting a hand on your shoulder.
"First hangover at the age of 26. I'm proud" He chuckles lightly.
You laugh back with nerves.
"Father...can I ask you something?" You chew on your lip anxiously as your father preps the pancake mix.
Your father continues to whisk the eggs, milk and flour together while answering the question you hadn't even asked yet.
"Howard dropped you off and helped you to the door. I was waiting for you, I carried you in and put you to bed. I don't want to push you to tell me anything Petal, but you were very upset. You kept going on and on about how you were lied too and you kept crying out for..."

"Okay. Okay I get it, thanks. I'm sorry..."
"Don't be sorry, emotion always comes out when people are drunk" your father sighs while pouring the batter into the pan. You walk to the fridge and get out some strawberries and whipped cream. Ready to top your pancakes.
"I forgot to tell you how beautiful you looked in that dress last night. I remember the day your mother bought it"
You immediately blush but your stomach forms a knot. Your father never brings up your mother. This was a big deal to you. To him.
"I didn't think you'd have noticed..." you mumble shyly.
Your father flips the pancake onto your plate before giving you a frown. You had said the wrong thing.
"Of course I noticed. I'm not just some idiot drunk all the time!"
"That's not what I..."
Your father scoffs. "Well you got her attitude alright! I don't know why I bother!"
You feel the tears rising. You knew this would happen. You never should have worn that stupid dress and you never should have gone on that date. You hang your head low and eat your pancakes. Trying not to anger or upset your father further.
Your father takes a deep breath and goes into the fridge. Pulling out a beer.
He had barely gone twelve hours without a drink and you were so proud, you really thought he had curved it in a little since you went on that date with Howard. How wrong you were, it only took one small remark to send him straight back to the booze.
He pops the cap off the beer and downs it.
"Much better!" He says as he cricks his neck and delves back in to grab another.
You couldn't hold in your emotion anymore.
"If you claim to not be such an idiot drunk then stop drinking the damn stuff and focus on more important things in life! I bet you don't even know what day of the week it is!"
You shoot up off the chair and slam your hands on the table. Your father turns as darkness summons him. He's never hurt you physically, not once, but you've also never spoke back to him like this before. But it was time. You'd had enough.

"Get out of my house" He hisses.
"W-what?"
"You want to act like you know everything? Then go see how you survive without me, leave"
You don't make him tell you again. You run out of the house barefoot. As your hear glass smashing from behind you and your father's angry shouts. You don't dare to look back.
You don't realise but you're on autopilot. You run right up to Steve's front door, banging as hard as you can. Your vision too thick with tears to look for the spare key.
Bucky approaches the door to see the state you're in.
"Daisy..." he says carefully. But you don't have the right words. You collapse into his arms and he hushes you softly. Stroking your hair.
Bucky's looks to your house to see your father throwing stuff out of the window. It was all of Your belongings. Bucky rushes you inside before you can see the sight. He knew you would have to know sooner or later. But Bucky chose later.
"I don't want to be here" You stutter. Coming to the realisation that you're in Steve's house.
"Steve isn't here" Bucky reassures you. Making you shake your head frantically.
"But you are" You hold your knees to your chest and rock back and forth.
"Daisy please let me explain"
"There's nothing to explain. I fell for another one of your tricks. Just like when we were eleven, you convinced me Steve was swimming in the lake and when I looked over the edge of the cliff you pushed me in!"
"I remember it differently..."
"I broke my nose on impact!" You don't let him finish.
"Okay I get it. I was an ass to you growing up" Bucky sighs.
"You're still an ass to me"
"Yeah but in a big brother protecting his little sister kind of way" Bucky huffs.
"You already have a sister Buck"
"And I treat her the exact same"
"Do you lie to her? Get her hopes up about the man she's In love with, just to watch him kiss another woman right infront of her!"
"I told you that wasn't..."
"It was just another prank you and Steve were playing on me. I get it. But we aren't fucking children anymore!" your voice gets louder and louder. You stand up from where you were sitting and begin to scream. Bucky walks towards you but you push him hard in the chest. He comes again and again and every time you push him back, harder and harder as you scream and cry. Bucky was letting you get it all out. You wasn't hurting him in the slightest so he let you continue. You needed to let off the steam.
"We are all twenty six! Twenty six Buck! What the hell have I achieved?! Absolutely nothing!"
Bucky notices Steve come into the house but Daisy was screaming so loud she didn't hear him.
Steve stays in the doorframe and watches carefully.
"Daisy..." Bucky tries to warn you of Steve's presence but you shake your head.
"I'm fucking done Bucky! I'm done! You and Steve both played an evil game last night and my heart got broken! I told you I was in love with Steve so you decided to give me a taste of reality! Well Thankyou Bucky. Thanks a fucking..."
"Your in love with me?" Steve blurts out as his heart rate picked up. His voice wobbled and you immediately widened your eyes to look up at Bucky. Bucky put his hands to his head and rubbed his temple. You gulped and turned around. Where you saw Steve standing there, completely gobsmacked.

Authors Notes: I consider this to be a comming-of-age Sword and Sorcery story based mostly on the style of classic western fantasies. So if that's your thing then I encourage you to take a peek. Something I want to mention though is that the main character starts of pretty wimpy, and that might not be your thing. That being said, if you stick with him he's got a long way to grow. Also, while this version of the story is meant to be fully readable, more dicerning readers may want to wait until I move out of rough draft phase. There may be some inconsistancies with character and plot while I am still in the rough draft phase. I'm sorry for this, but this is my first web novel and from what I've read the best way to get a good novel out is to write write write, and then edit ruthlessly after you're finished with the book, so that's the plan I'm going to follow. Again, this is a rough draft. Everything you are reading is subject to change, including the name, title, and cover photo. This may no longer be the case once I've decided I know where this fiction is going and I have a reasonable understanding of the characters and their behavior. You're reading what comes off my keyboard as it's made, with very limited editing. There will be mistakes in the text. I do a quick spell check to take out the worst of the errors, but there will be some I miss. You can point them out in the comments if they are particularly confusing or glaring and I will try to fix them, however I am not overly concerned about minor errors as this is not the final draft by any means.
