《The Bad Boy OR The Best Friend》forty two

This week, apart from it's beginning on Monday has been kind of uneventful. There have been exchange of sassy comments here and there between Stacey and I whenever she hangs out with us. But, Chris has maintained his distance with her and that has kept my thoughts at peace.

As I get ready for the dinner at Breanna's place, I can't help but smile at my reflection because Chris and I have actually managed to spend five days without fighting, which is a big deal for me. Because ever since we even started talking, we've been arguing on the most stupid things.

I put on one coat of liner before standing back and tucking my hair into a ponytail as I look at the white blouse I'm wearing with blue jeans. Breanna asked me to wear a dress, but all she received was a deadpan look in return so she didn't insist further.

The door bell rings, and I collect my cell phone, not bothering to carry along any wallet or clutch as I go down the stairs. My father meets me by the kitchen and pulls me into a hug.

"Next time, your boyfriend is having a dinner with us." He says, making me nod at him.

"How about you tell him yourself?"

"Alright then, let's go."

We walk to the front door, and Dad opens the door to reveal Chris in a plain dark blue t-shirt with black rugged jeans. I resist the urge to roll my eyes because at least he's not wearing his leather jacket.

"Chris, are you free tomorrow night?" Dad asks and I turn to him.

"Not tomorrow night." I pout.

"Alright, alright. Do you want to do this on a school night?" He asks, raising an eyebrow and I shrug, looking at Chris again who looks confused.

"What are we talking about?"

"He's taking offence in that fact that we're having dinner at Breanna's before at my place." I explain and a look of understanding dawns upon him.

"Oh, alright then. I don't mind school night." Chris informs, casually which makes me grin internally because I'm sure my father plans on roasting him at that dinner.

"Wednesday then. I get free early from the office. I'm usually not home during this time on fridays, today is just the lucky day." Dad tells us.

"Alright Dad, love you. Bye." I kiss his cheek, and then hurry out of the door, Chris trailing behind me.

He opens the door for me, receiving a cheeky smile from me and I get in the passenger seat as he walks to the driver's one. When he slides in, he turns to me briefly.

"Hey." He gives me a small smile and I reach over the console to press my lips against him because I can never get enough of it.

As soon as I do, his hand reaches up to my cheek, cupping it as he pulls me a little closer to himself. The warmth of his skin radiates off to mine as his lips send tingling sensation as the explore my own.

Just as I think that we will actually go further, deepen the kiss, he pulls away, making me frown. He has been doing that a lot lately, especially since last friday and I've been alright with it but now it's just bothering me because I want to kiss him properly. It's one way of actually showing him so much I feel for him.

"What's wrong?" I whisper, and he shakes his head.

"We're going to be late." He mentions and I look down at the time on my phone.

I nod, pulling away as I put on my seatbelt and he does the same before driving away. The car ride is only ten minutes, which is mostly silent but Chris doesn't let go off my hand even for a second which actually manages to calm my thoughts about everything else.

When we reach Breanna's house, Chris parks his car in the driveway and we both get out. As we approach the porch, he takes my hand in his again, pulling me closer as he kisses my forehead.

"You look beautiful tonight." He tells me as I ring the doorbell.

A blush creeps up on my cheeks, "Thanks. You don't look so bad yourself."

This causes him to laugh as the door opens to reveal Breanna in a navy blue dress, her make up and hair done perfectly which only makes me feel underdressed as I look at her.

"Bitch, I told you to wear a fucking dress." She hisses at me.

Chris laughs at that and turns to me with a shrug, "Well, hello to you too, ma'am. It's a such a lovely evening, would you please come inside our house and have the delicious food?" He teases her, making me grin as I stand a little closer to him.

Breanna glares at us but we only offer her goofy grins. Then I hear Evelyn's voice in the background. "Breanna honey, who is it?" She asks, coming closer to the door.

"Hey Mrs. Davis." I smile at her and she pulls me into a hug.

"Hello dear, so glad you could make it." She says before parting away and turns her eyes to Chris.

Her eyes roam from his face down to his clothes to the toes. But Chris stands confidently as he meets her eyes, not once fidgeting or faltering under her scrutinised gaze.

"Mrs. Davis, nice to meet you." Chris nods at her and she gives me a small smile.

"You must be Adrianna's boyfriend. Christopher, is it?" She asks, and when he nods, confirming, she continues, "Would you mind if I call you Topher?"

My eyes immediately snap to Chris as I look at him worriedly and all the blood drains from his face. He looks pale, really pale while Evelyn waits for an answer. I have never disliked her as much as I dislike her right in this moment. I lightly squeeze Chris's hand and turn to Breanna's mother while my best friend looks at Chris worriedly and gives me a questioning look.

"Evelyn, I think it must be best if we stick to Chris, yeah? No awkward nicknames." I tell her, trying my best not to show the displeasure I actually feel right now. I realise that I called her from her first name, which is surprising for me since I don't usually do that.

"Oh, that's okay. Come on in, now." She opens the door further before walking in and Breanna turns to us.

"Are you okay?" She asks Chris who shakes his head, running his free hand through his hair as he nods.

"Yeah, just give us a moment alone?" He asks, and she nods, walking back into the house.

I turn to Chris, my other hand reaching up to his cheek, "Hey, you alright?" I ask.

He audibly gulps, closing his eyes as if he's in physical pain, "Yeah, she just caught me off guard." He speaks, his voice barely a whisper.

"Jay, she's not here. She's not coming back." I tell him, the only words of assurance I can actually muster up.

He nods, pulling me closer as he wraps his arms around me, "Claire, promise me something." He whispers in my ear.

"Anything."

"Don't leave. No matter what, don't leave." He says, tightening his hold on me and I rest my cheek on his chest, listening to his unsteady heartbeat.

"Promise." I whisper, closing my eyes for momentarily because I don't even want to. I never want to leave him.

Chris has been a breath of fresh air in my life when I felt like I was suffocating. He has lent me that hand which I need in times of support. I never thought I would be comfortable talking about my mother so much, but whenever I'm with him, he always asks me about her. I think it's because he's aware I need that stroke in order to speak my feelings out, and he provides me with it.

He has been a blessing to me, and though the thought of my feelings deepening for him each day scares the hell out of me — every time I'm with him, it seems like my feelings aren't enough, that I can't get enough of what we have together.

So if he asks me to never leave him, I don't think I will. I don't think that I can.

Someone clears their throat and I almost jump from the sound because I was so lost in my thoughts, in Chris's embrace. I look at the porch stairs to see Luke standing in a blue button down and black plain jeans.

"You look like a dork." I say, biting on my lip to refrain myself from laughing.

"Are we seriously underdressed?" Chris asks me, making me shrug.

"I think they are trying too hard. We look amazing." I tell him and he grins.

"Shut up, both of you! I'm nervous as hell." Luke snaps at us, and I end up laughing. "Stop." He glares at me.

I sober up. "Alright buddy, Mr. Davis, as in, Michael loves Breanna to death, so he's very protective over her. He's going to interrogate you like hell, just don't fidget or give dumb answers. Evelyn will pick on you, so don't let her get to you. Got it?" I say and he nods, frantically.

"I'm glad I don't need pep talk before the dinner on Wednesday because your father already loves me." Chris says.

"You wish, buddy." I grin at him, making him frown.

"What does that mean?" He asks.

"Let's go inside?" Luke says, distracting him and we nod.

Chris puts his arm around my waist as all of us reach the living room. Breanna, who's sitting on the couch and biting her nails looks up and her face splits into a huge grin when she notices Luke. They are both wearing blue.

"We'll never be that couple." Chris whispers in my ear, making a shiver run down my spine but at the same time, voicing my thoughts.

He places his lips below my earlobe and I suck in a breath because of the intensity of sensation that runs through me. Shit. I've never actually had experienced that strong of electric feeling, ever so my eyes widen as I stare at Chris. When he notices the change in my demeanour and the color in my cheeks, he smirks.

"I think I just found your soft spot, Claire." He smirks wider, making me fist my hands as I repeat to myself that I cannot make out with him right here right now.

"Brooks." I hear Michael's voice which makes me snap out of my thoughts as I turn to look at Breanna's father.

A smile splits on my face, "Mr. Davis."

He opens his arms and I walk right into them, as he gives me a brief hug, "How're you doing?"

"Fine, Dad number two." I tease, because both my and Breanna's fathers treat us like their own daughters.

He chuckles at that but then his gaze drops to Luke, and I'm glad that he took my advice and isn't fidgeting.

"Who would that be?"

"Luke, sir!" He steps forwards, offering his hand which Michael shakes with a small smile on his face. "Nice to meet you."

Michael nods his head before looking at Chris who stands confidently as he walks towards him and puts forward his hand, "Mr. Davis."

"And who are you?" He asks, shaking Chris's hand.

The way Chris carries himself is entirely different from anyone. The sense of confidence and strength literally radiates off his aura as does a little smugness, but it's all a part of his charm.

"Chris." He says and then looks at me momentarily, his gaze softening, "Her boyfriend."

Michael looks at me, surprised, "Adri has a boyfriend? How did that happen?"

Evelyn rolls her eyes, "Stop, Mike. Let's all have dinner, shall we?"

All of us move to the dinner table. Breanna helps Evelyn as does Luke and I. Chris gets into some conversation with Michael, which distracts from work at hand and causes him to smirk at me from the corner of his eyes as he watches.

I shake my head and soon all of us settle down on the dinner table. The food passes amongst us with Chris sitting besides me as Breanna and Luke sit across us. Evelyn and Michael sit across each other as well, with the former on my right and the latter on Chris's left.

"So, Luke, have you thought what you want to do as you go to college next year?" Evelyn starts, chewing on the beans and I frown, looking at my best friend but she just glares at me.

Oh, hell no. Did she not tell them that Luke's still a junior?

However, Luke seems to be in on her secret as he clears his throat, sipping on the water, "I'm a little uncertain, but I'm bending towards mathematics in general." He speaks smoothly, making me gape at his white lie but then I feel a warm hand on my thigh.

I snap towards Chris's direction as his fingers curl to the inner part of my thigh, almost making me gasp at the contact. I keep my hand on his, giving him a deathly glare to remove it, but I'm sure it doesn't work because the effect his touch has on me, I can never manage a deathly glare in a situation like this.

From the corner of my eye, I see him smirking before he removes his hand a breath leaves me. I sip on water as Breanna's parents keep drilling Luke further. They don't ask the direction questions like — 'What are your plans with my daughter?' Nope, Michael does it subtly.

Breanna's face is flushed in embarrassment which only adds to my amusement until I hear my name being called, "Did Adri threaten you with her baseball bat yet?" Michael asks Luke, looking between the two of us.

Chris chuckles, causing me to grin, "Yup, first thing." I shrug shamelessly.

"Well then, I believe I have less to worry about." Michael jokes.

After dinner everyone helps clean the table. Breanna pulls me to her bedroom during that time and I stumble inside.

"What?" I ask, straightening my blouse.

"Do you think they like him?" She asks, playing with her fingers, a clear nervous habit.

I take her hands in mine, "Bri, Luke's an amazing guy. We both know that, I'm sure Michael sees it too. As for the part about the two of you lying, I don't condone that." I tell her truthfully.

She frowns, "What lie?"

"He's in junior year, girl!" I gape at her.

"Yeah, I know. It wasn't something I'm ready to blow on their faces yet, especially if it would give Evelyn a chance to earn any kind of negative point." She explains, biting on her inner cheek and looking at me expectantly.

I nod, "Just tell him soon, okay? He's your father, and he loves you no matter what."

She pulls me into a hug and I smile to myself as I hug her back. "Thank you for coming today, Adri. It wouldn't have been possible without you." She says in my ear.

"Well, bitch, if you're gonna thank me, you might as well buy me the latest iPhone." I pinch her side, causing her to yelp as she lets go of me.

"I can't have one decent emotional moment with you." She huffs, running a hand through her blonde hair.

"Isn't that a bit excess? The dress and curls?" I ask, plopping down on her bed.

"The day your boyfriend meets your father officially, we'll talk then." She says, sitting besides me.

"He is, on Wednesday." I inform her, pulling out my phone.

She gapes at me, "No way. And why the hell school night?"

I shrug, "Neither of us care."

There's a text from Evan on my phone. "Has Evelyn kicked either of those dudes out yet?"

I can't help but smile at that, "This is the first time you're out of loop. Does it hurt?" I text back, laughing to myself because the guy is so accustomed to being included in literally everything.

Breanna shakes my shoulder and I look up at her, startled, "Earth to Adrianna." She points at the door and I see Chris and Luke standing there.

"Well, thanks a lot for being such a good sport and leaving me alone out there." Luke taunts us, unbuttoning his shirt, and fanning his collar. "It's fucking hot."

"Aww, thanks Luke. But don't say that in front of your girlfriend." Chris speaks up, making me snicker as I notice Luke throwing a dirty look at him.

Chris shrugs, a sly grin on his face as he looks at me, and winks. Damn hell. Blood rushes to my cheeks as I stare at him, gulping as I realise how captivating his features are, and how just one wink actually managed to blow me away.

"Stop undressing each other in your head." Breanna smacks my head, glaring at Chris which only makes me blush further and him to chuckle at my misery.

"Ready to head out, Claire?" He asks and I nod, picking up my phone.

It chimes and I look down, "Sucks a big fucking time. Give me minute to minute detail when you come back home. Waiting for you at the window!"

I roll my eyes, tucking it back in my jeans pocket and Chris cocks his head to side as he studies my face, "Evan?" He asks and I nod, a feeling of guilt immediately seeping in. But when Chris offers me a small smile and pulls me closer to himself, it eases the tension in my stomach.

"I should head out too." Luke says as all of us step out in the living room.

"No, not yet." Breanna pouts, holding his arm.

I grimace, "Let the man go, don't be clingy." I smack her hand and she narrows her eyes at me.

"Says you?"

"Says your best friend."

"I'll see you tomorrow, alright?" Luke looks at her, his hand coming up to her cheek as he bends down to kiss her and I mentally barf before looking away, hiding my face in Chris's shoulder.

He removes it to wrap it around my waist, pulling me closer as he places a kiss on the side of my head. It's just a small gesture, yet something about it overwhelms my heart as I look up at him, his gray eyes seeming distracted.

After bidding Breanna's family a night, Chris and I leave, Luke following behind as he drives off in his car. As Chris starts the engine, he takes my hand in his, mindlessly drawing circles on my palm as I stare at him.

"What's wrong?" I ask, and he looks at me momentarily before setting his eyes back at the road.

"I really like you, you know that?" He says, not looking at me but I detect the emotion behind his words.

"I really like you too." I tell him, because this is how 'really liking' someone feels, then I like him hundred points out of ten.

He smiles at me, but doesn't say anything back. We drive back in a comfort silence before he parks his car in the driveway and then turns to me, unbuckling his belt.

"Stay the night with me?" He asks, his words catching me off guard as I try to make a sense out of his words. Before I can respond, he speaks up again, "I'm not asking you to sleep with me, especially not like this. I believe in spontaneity of the moment. I'm just asking you to stay over."

His words immediately ease over me as I stare at him, "Spontaneity of the moment, huh?" My lips curve upward and he smirks at me.

"Uh-huh." He nods, leaning forward to press a kiss on my lips and I immediately kiss him back.

"Wait. Can I run over to my house to get my clothes?" I ask and he looks down at me.

"I'll lend you some clothes. Come on, now. Just inform your father." He says, and I unbuckle my seat belt as well, pulling out my phone before he adds, "And Evan."

"What?" I frown.

"He'll be waiting for you at the window. Better not worry him." He says and I nod.

We get out of the car as I quickly make a call to my father, and I believe he barely heard me in his sleep induced state which is why he agreed so easily.

As Chris unlocks the door, we get in the living room and he gets me a glass of water as I remove my footwear. I dial up Evan and wait for him to pick up.

"Where are you? Tell me tell me! Everything." He says as soon as he picks up.

I laugh, "How about tomorrow? I'll spill everything."

"Why not tonight? And why are you not in your room?"
