《The Bad Boy OR The Best Friend》two

When I reach home, I unlock the door and lock it again once I am in. Dad must be at his office, he's a leading lawyer with Evan's family's business firm. It's a well established thing, but I don't have much idea about it. Dad just discusses his cases sometimes with me without going in much detail, plus I am zero interested in that stuff, so there's that.

I reheat the frozen pizza for myself and head to my room upstairs. My father's bedroom is on the bottom floor, and we have my room and the guest room upstairs. After I reach my room, I open the windows to let in some fresh but immediately regret my decision when I see Evan locking his lips with Rose.

My instant reaction is to pull the curtains and I turn around. Fuck life, honestly. I thought since Evan didn't drop me back home, they must be going out. But I should have known better than that. Of course they would come back to his place to make up for the lost time.

A vibration buzz makes me pull the phone out of my jeans and I see that it's Dad who's calling me. I immediately pick up the call.

"Hi Dad!" I say, well aware that he's calling me to catch up on things.

"Hi sweetheart. Have lunch yet?" He asks and I look at the pizza lying on my bed.

"Just about to. What about you? Take your medicines?" I shoot back and I can feel him smiling on the other end.

"Yes, had lunch and took my medicines. Listen, An, I'll be home a little late. Order whatever you want, okay? Or I can ask Miranda to cook extra for you." He says, referring to Evan's mother.

"It's alright, I understand. I am sure that even if I walk over there last minute, Miranda still wouldn't kick me out." I tell him and he laughs.

"Of course, Paul and Miranda love you. I gotta run now, okay? Take care, hun." He says before hanging up.

I sigh, and move to bed. I change into pjs shorts and a loose t-shirt before indulging into finishing the pizza. I keep the dish on the side table before going under the comforters and dozing off to sleep.

Something tickles on my foot and I kick it off. A loud thump booms through the room and I gasp, sitting up in bed to look at the source of noise, my heartbeat picking up.

I look at Evan holding his jaw, lying on the floor and frown, "What the fuck, Evan?" I shout and he grimaces.

"You kicked me in the face!" He yells and I scowl.

"Well, what the hell were you doing near my feet to begin with?" I glare at him.

"Trying to have fun with that feather!" He points at the floor and my anger immediately melts away.

"You're a dork, you know?" I say and he shakes his head.

"That word hurts my masculinity, An!" He teases, getting up and I grin at him.

"Come here, let me see your face." I say, scooting a little for him to sit in front of me.

He does and I hold his jaw, making him wince, "You ruined my beautiful face, didn't you?" He asks, his breath fanning over my face and I hold my breath.

"No," I shake my head, "There wouldn't even be a bruise to prove it. You're completely okay." I say and my eyes set on his lips before I have to forcefully look away.

"Thank god. Rose wouldn't have appreciated it otherwise." He shrugs and I gulp at his words.

Rose. Of course.

"What are you doing here?" I ask and he smiles.

"Scott called mom to make dinner for you as well. So I am here to get you." He says and I roll my eyes.

"You could have called too, you know?"

"There's no fun in that, is there?" He gives me his cheeky grin and I smack his head.

"No! You are misusing the key my dad gave you for emergency." I say.

"Well, waking you up for dinner is an emergency."

I ignore him as I get out of bed and move to get my jeans. I feel a stare on a specific body part of mine and when I turn around, Evan's ogling at my legs. A blush creeps up on my cheeks as I ignore him and move to the bathroom to change.

I don't bother to change out of the loose t-shirt because it's really comfortable and I am just going over next door. When I get out, Evan is texting on his phone so I pick up mine and push him a little to move.

"Let's go?" I ask and he nods.

"C'mon!" He says, his hand on my shoulder as we move down.

I take my keys from the kitchen and lock the front door. Just as I do, I notice a car coming to stop in front of the house across the street. I immediately recognise it as Chris'. I roll my eyes and Evan pulls me towards his house.

Just as he's about to turn the knob, someone shouts from behind, "Hey!"

I turn around with a frown and notice Chris running across to us. My insides twist at the thought of talking to him and I give Evan a look. He steps in front of me in all his protective best friend mode but I still hold my breath.

"Hey Chris, what's up man?" Evan asks when Chris reaches us.

"Nothing, do you mind if I talk to her alone for a second?" He asks, looking straight at me and I scowl.

Evan looks at me for assurance and I shrug. What could he possibly have to say to me? Evan nods, moving inside the house while I still stand on the porch, facing the guy who's an A class asshole.

"Come, let's walk. I don't want anyone eavesdropping." He says, motioning towards door.

I smile because I know that Evan must be standing behind the door, wanting to hear every word.

"And why do you think I'll walk with you?" I cross my arms across my chest.

Chris halts and gives me an amusing look, "Because I just asked you to, politely?" He offers and I shake my head.

"Not a good enough reason. But sure, I'll walk because I want to, not because you asked." I make myself clear before stepping forward and we walk down the houses in our lane.

"Did I really give you those marks?" He asks, pointing towards the faded ones at my arm. They usually stay upto two hours, and then my skin recovers.

"Yes, you did." I say, coming to a stop to face him. We must be five or six houses down from Evan's.

"I didn't mean to. I am not a morning person, and then you bumped into me." He says like it makes everything alright.

"And that's all the explanation you got?" I ask and he smirks.

"Yes, you don't expect me to apologise, do you?"

I shake my head at his audacity, "I do, actually! You were fucking rude to me and the least you can do is say the word sorry. But hold on, that would hurt your ego now, wouldn't it?" I glare at him and his jaw clenches.

"You know, not even my girlfriend Caitlyn talks to me like that." He remarks and I laugh.

"Well, she must have no self respect to stay with a douche like you then." I spit before starting to walk towards the house.

"You say too much, without thinking, I assume." He says from behind me.

I turn around and flip my middle finger in the air before increasing my pace to reach Evan's house. I am fuming, really! When he said he wanted to talk, I really thought he would have the decency to apologise, but he only wanted to aggravate me further. I shake my head as I turn the knob and step in.

Evan is sitting at the end of the couch in the living room and as soon as I enter, he stands up, "Where the hell did you go?" He asks, sounding pissed and I glare at him, immediately shushing him up.

"For a walk. Very pleasant one, I might add." I say sarcastically and he narrows his eyes at me.

"What did he want?" He says and I roll my eyes.

"Nothing I would want to recall." I tell him.

"Adrianna, is that you sweetheart?" Miranda calls from the kitchen and I immediately smile.

"Yes, Mrs. Smith." I say back and she emerges out, her hands full with dishes.

I give a deadly look to Evan, "Why aren't you helping her?" I snap before moving towards her and taking the dinner from her hands and setting it on table.

"I was busy rummaging through my mind as to what Chris might want from you." He grumbles behind me and I roll my eyes.

I help Miranda serve dinner and just as we sit down, the front door opens and Sawyer comes in. A grin takes over my features as I admire his well built body and dark blonde hair, a lot like Evan.

"Hey you, I didn't know you were back home." I say and he grins at me, coming down to sit and immediately places a peck on my cheeks before moving to take the seat by Miranda's —side across me.

Evan narrows his eyes at his brother and mumbles under his breath, "Does he always has to do that?"

I gape at him, but I am pretty sure I wasn't meant to hear what he said so I shut my mouth and concentrate on Sawyer.

"I just came this morning, I'll be staying over this week. Evan and I might take a road trip to go fishing." Sawyer says and I smile, nodding.

We live in Highland Park, a small town within Dallas County of Texas. I have spent my whole life here, and I feel lucky about that because I met Evan in my childhood. I have known him since we were four, and have been friends since then.

Sawyer is two years older than us and is in University of California, but he visits home a lot. Actually, he visits too much for someone who lives in another state. I see him almost every month.

"Hey, I came across Chris while I was getting in." Sawyer says and I immediately tense in my seat. Evan frowns at me so I just give him a small smile.

"Oh, did he say anything?" He asks his brother.

"Actually he sounded pissed, so I didn't stay to talk much." Sawyer shrugs.

We eat the rest of the dinner in silence and I prefer it that way because I'd rather bear that than the awkward conversation revolving around Chris. The three of us help Miranda in cleaning the table and Sawyer takes up the duty to clean the dishes while Evan nudges me a little.

"What?" I ask him, a little annoyed and he stares at me.

"Let's go to my room." He says before getting up from the couch and making his way upstairs and I sigh, following behind him.

I have been in his room countless times, yet each time I seem to lose a breath when the two of us are alone up here. I stand at the doorway while he makes himself comfortable on the bed. When he notices me standing, he just arches his eyebrow and I roll my eyes before taking a seat by the desk on chair.

"You have been doing that a lot today." Evan mentions and I frown at him. He takes the hint and speaks further, "Rolling your eyes."

An involuntary smile takes over my features as I nod, "Yeah, never been this annoyed."

"Is Chris causing you trouble, An?" He asks standing up and pulling the chair really close to the bed before settling down on the edge of the bed again, and now my legs are between his, our thighs brushing together. The involuntary blush creeps on my cheeks and I clear my throat to distract myself from it.

"Nothing I can't handle." I say and he looks straight into my eyes.

"You would tell me if it was anything else, right? I am your best friend." He says and I smile at him.

"Of course, I will."

That is true, he's my best friend and if something that is bothering me constantly seems to be out of my hands, he's the first person I would go to, and Breanna. He has been there for me through everything, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

"So, Rose and you got back together, huh?" I say and he sighs, looking at the ceiling.

"Yup, we did."

I frown, "You don't sound so happy, Evan."

My words make him look at me, "I am, I like her so much. You know it, you have always known it."

"Yeah," I nod, gulping, "What's the problem?"

"I don't know if she's the one." He shrugs.

"You do realize that you're in high school, right? You might not find your 'the one' for a very long time. Till then, if she makes you happy, just stay that way, yeah? Life is too short, Cyp." I say, and he looks up at me with glare in his eyes.

I bite my lip to refrain myself from laughing, "You promised to stop calling me that." He looks horrified.

"There's no one around here." I shrug. "And by the way, next time you decide to do it with your girlfriend, please shut the windows." I point towards the curtains and he gives me an 'oops' look.

"We weren't having sex, just making out." He says and I shake my head.

"Still, I'd be blessed to not see that. And Karma is a sweet bitch, best friend. Someday I might have a guy over there and you might stumble across us making out." I say, putting the image in his head.

He glares at me, "Yeah, not happening."

"You see? Not a nice image, is it? So be careful next time." I grin and he nods.
