《My Boyfriend's Best Friend》Chapter 10

"Where are we going?" I groaned,
Darren and I have been walking for like one freaking hour already!
But he isn't budging nor answering my question.
I am walking behind him because.. well, he is walking so fast.
"I'm tired!" I groaned once more.
Once again, no response.
"The parking is that way!" I groaned, pointing at the opposite direction.
"I know,"
That's the first reply I got from him once we started walking.
"Well then, why are we walking here for?" I said, putting my hands on my hips.
He turned to me, glaring, then he turned around and started walking again.
What is with this guy?!
He continued to walk, and I was trailing behind, catching my breath when he stopped so suddenly, making me bump into his back.
"Oof."
"We're here!" He said, raising his two hands.
I felt a cold breeze brush against my skin.
"Wow." is all I can say.
"Yeah, I know." He said smiling.
Whoa, he just smiled.
Before me is a meadow, I think?
It's filled with flowers, and the moon is really big from up here.
It's as if it's just right infront of us.
Darren laid on the grass and I did the same.
The night sky is filled with stars, many stars!
In this generation, you can't see that much stars anymore because it's covered with fog, smoke and well.. smoke.
I touched the flowers, they are so beautiful, it feels as if spring has already come.
The grass tickled my skin, as I looked up to the sky.
"Darren, this place is a beaut!" I said, smiling.
"Yeah.. when I've got some thinking to do, I come here." He replied, a small smile forming across his face.
I turned to face him, who is lying beside me and asked,
"Are you thinking of something right now?"
He smiled, his gaze never left the pretty night sky.
"Yeah, I am."
I grew curious and so I asked again,
"What are you thinking about?"
He smiled faintly, looking at me.
Both of us locked gazes, our faces are near that I thought I was going to break down any moment now.
"What is love?"
I bit my lip, blushing furiously, why is he asking me that?
"Hmmmm, I think it means... it's that heart racing feeling you get.. the small gestures making you blush.. I think that's love." I answered, gulping down the lump on my throat.
I felt nervous.
I really did..
But I don't even know why.
"Really?" He said in a sarcastic tone, then facing the sky again.
"Well, that's love for me." I replied, shrugging my shoulders.
"Hmmm.. what about sacrifice?" He asked, his tone a bit serious.
"What do you mean..?" I asked sheepishly.
"Sacrificing your own happiness for the person you love."
I never thought about sacrificing?
How come his visualization of love is so...
DARK?
My chest ached, I also don't know why, but I pulled myself together to form an answer.
"I think.. sacrificing your own happiness for the sake of others isn't a good thing,"
"Oh really? Then let me ask you something, what if that person you love is happy with someone else? Shouldn't I give up?" He said, smiling at me.

Okay, that made me think.
"Does that person know how you feel for her?" I asked, I don't even know why I bother to ask. I mean--
It's not my concern at all.
"Why would I bother saying when I see her happy with someone else?"
"But she won't know! Atleast try to win her heart or something! You can't just give up like that! You can never buy happiness so if she is your happiness then you have to chase after her!" I replied, standing up from the grass, my tone raising.
He looked up to me, smirking.
He stood up from the grass then walked to the opposite direction leaving me behind.
"Where are we going?" I asked, pretty much confused.
"Home." He replied, not even looking behind.
I sighed, following him from behind as we went to the parking.
I opened the car door to the passenger's seat as he did the same thing.
The car trip was silent.
But..
Something tells me that what he asked me earlier concerns a bit of him.
Then--
Is he experienceing unrequited love or something?
I was itching to get answers but I'm too shy to ask.
We stopped infront of my house but he didn't get off the car just yet.
"That place.."
He spoke again, surprising me.
"Yeah?" I asked, bewildered.
"I never showed it to anyone. You're the first one. So please-- don't show it to anyone else."
"But.. that place is so beautiful! I mean-- how can you not share it to anyone else? If Carson knew about that place, we could go on dates there! We wouldn't grow tired of the amazing scenery--"
"I found it! I choose the people I want to share it with, you clear?!" His voice threatening.
I shut up, shocked at his tone of voice.
He looked away, sighing.
"Just please don't tell it to anyone else."
I nodded my head in affirmation and he got off the car,
I was still stunned, and then he opened the car door for me.
I looked up, he looks pissed.
I don't really know what he's thinking and so I got off the car.
We walked up infront of the house.
Something's strange.
The door isn't locked.
The mat is kind of dirty.
What's going on?
That question popped right in my head.
"Hey, didn't we lock the door?" I asked, turning to Darren.
"Yeah.. we did." He replied.
"Why is it open?" I asked sheepishly.
All of a sudden, I felt someone pull my arm.
I was suddenly wrapped in warm arms.
Darren--
He's hugging me.
He tightened his hug.
"I can't breathe.." I said,
No..
This is wrong!
I can't be hugged by him..
But--
It feels nice?
Warm.. and secure.
I didn't hug him back of course,
I just stood there.
"D-Darren..? Is something wrong..?" I asked, shivering.
Blood rushed to my cheeks as he buried his face on my shoulder.
He then let go,
I felt sad.
Why did I feel sad?
He then, looked away.
"Alexis!"
I hear a familiar voice,
Suddenly, I was lifted up my feet and carried from behind.
"Waaaah!" I screamed.
"Alexis! It's me! Carson!"
Carson?
My eyes glistened, he put me down and as soon as he did, I wrapped my arms around him and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"You're back! How's grandma?" I asked, smiling.
"She's doing fine already. That's why I came back!" Carson said, kissing me lightly on the lips.
"Oh Carson! I missed you!" I replied, kissing him back.
Although, I'm not so sure if it's just me but..
Kissing Carson seems like a normal thing already that I didn't notice Darren standing infront of us.
"Yo," Carson said, fistbumping Darren.
"Yo." Darren replied.
Ah.. bromance.
"Thanks for keeping Alexis safe." Carson winked.
"Sure," Darren replied nonchalantly.
"You didn't do anything stupid to her, did you?" Carson asked, glaring at Darren.
I blushed, remembering the thoughts of Darren kissing me as a joke, him peeking on me and things that he does to just plainly irritate me.
"Nope." Darren replied.
"I knew I could count on you," Carson smiled, patting Darren on his shoulder.
"Yeah, you can." Darren smiled lightly.
I just stared blankly at Darren, because well, he's acting really really strange...
"So how have you been?" Carson asked, his gaze shifted to me all of a sudden.
"Me? Oh, just missing ya." I winked.
"Aw, you are so adorable!!" Carson said, messing up my hair and kissing me on the forehead.
"No... you're more adorable!" I replied, messing up his hair too.
"*Ahem!*"
Both Carson and I turned to Darren and he just looked at us plainly.
I couldn't really read his face nor guess what's on his head.
"I'm going to go now." Darren says.
"No! Are you kidding me? I just got here, man! We should celebrate!" Carson says, slapping Darren's back.
"No thanks.. I think I should get going now." Darren smiled.
Carson fell silent.
"Bro, are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Carson said, his voice perky and his eyes brightening up.
"No." Darren replied plainly.
I am still lost in thought but currently, I am seeing two very very opposite people.
Carson is a very bright person and has a sunny disposition while Darren is well.. dark and quiet and emoish.
"How about-- The three of us live together!!!" Carson said clapping.
I snapped, looking at him all of a sudden,
"What?!" Both Darren and I shouted.
"Well, wouldn't it be nice if I live with my most beloved girlfriend and my most trusted best friend? I mean-- I know nothing will happen with the both of you, right?" Carson said smiling.
"Yeah. Nothing," Darren replied nonchalantly.
A shot of pain crossed my chest, but I know it isn't something serious or anything.
"Erm. Yeah, nothing will happen." I said, confirming to Carson's question as our fingers intertwined.
"Then there's nothing wrong with the three of us living together, right?" Carson clapped.
"You must be joking." Darren sighed.
"Oh come on, Darren! We could be your family! Your mother is abroad, your father is dead, wouldn't it be nice if there's actually *real* people by your side--?"
"What do you mean by real people?" I asked curiously.
"Oh, you know Darren-- he has--"
"Shut it." Darren interrupted, covering Carson's mouth, and tackling him playfully.
"Aw come on, Darren. Can't I tell my girlfriend?" Carson joked.
Darren glared at me then to Carson.
"Okay, do what you like." Darren said, letting go of Carson.
"You see, Alexis.. Darren's mother rarely visits, when he is young, his mom would visit twice or thrice a month, but now that Darren is all grown up, his mother doesn't really.. visit him. And yeah, his dad is dead."
"Carson! How can you say 'dead' so easily!" I scolded.
"Sorry." Carson replied.
"It's okay, I'm used to it." Darren interrupted.
I glanced back at him and he doesn't really seem affected at all.
"So practically speaking, Darren is also living alone." Carson said.
"Oh." is all I can say.
"Anyways-- Let's go in already!! Let's party! Have you been partying while I'm gone?" Carson asked, glancing back at me.
Uh oh.
I glanced back at Darren, he just shrugged his shoulders.
Oh yeah, I'm alone in this.
I sighed in defeat and nodded my head.
Carson fell silent and smiled faintly saying,
"Wow. I never thought you would party without me."
His voice seems hurt.
"I'm sorry..." I apologized softly, looking down my shoes.
"No, it's okay! Darren is here to keep you safe so it's fine with me." Carson said, smiling.
Darren..
I remembered my awful hangover and him trying to trick me that something happened between the both of us.
"Yeah,"
"So we three going to live together and party all night? Yes?" Carson said perkily, looking at the both of us.
Darren and I exchanged gazes and then turned to face him.
"I'll take that as a yes! Let's go inside! I bought souvenirs from Texas!!" Carson said, going inside leaving the both of us outside the front door.
"Are you okay with this?" I asked Darren.
He just shrugged his shoulders saying,
"It's not like there's anything between us so yeah."
I felt a tug in my heartstrings once more.
"Um..."
"Forget everything." Darren interrupted, facing me and smiling at me.
"Huh?" is all I can reply.
What does he mean?
"What happened between the both of us. Everything-- forget all of it."
"W-What are you saying?"
"Forget me. Forget us being friends. Forget it."
It was beyond my control that my palm met his cheek.
I slapped him.
"How can you say forget you so easily? Weren't we friends?"
A sigh escaped his lips as he replied.
"We can't."
My chest tightened but it's not like I have anything to do with him.
I rushed inside, sprinting up to my room, I can hear Carson shout my name but I didn't respond.
I plopped on my bed sighing,
There's nothing between us.
Why am I feeling so down.
*Beep.*
I reached to get my phone and it was a text from Darren.
From: Darren
Message: Some things are better not said. Some things are better to be forgotten.
