《Living With My Bully》Ch. 19 We're a Mess

Sorry I haven't updated this in a while, I've been working on my new story Hero Alliance so I didn't get around to writing this. But I hope you enjoy!
•••Iris' POV•••
"Shit!" I hear someone yelp causing me to jolt awake and sit up in bed quickly, rubbing my eyes. Once my eyes adjust I see Oliver holding his foot, a look of pain plastered on his face.
"Oliver, is everything okay?" I ask him, my voice sounding tired. "Huh?" He looks over, "Oh Iris, I'm sorry I woke you, I just stubbed my toe." He apologizes, standing up straight.
"Why were you sleeping anyway? It's four in the afternoon." He asks. "I had a headache so I took a nap." I explain, tossing the blankets off of me.
"Why are you in here anyway?" I ask him, yawning. "I wanted to talk to you, but you seem tired so I'm gonna go-"
"Don't leave. If you want to talk, I'm here for you." I say, managing a smile. "If you're sure." He chuckles, "Roof?" He asks and I nod.
"I'll help you since you're still tired and I don't want you tripping over your own feet." He teases, holding a hand out to me.
I put my hand in his and he helps me up off the bed towards the window. He opens the window with his free hand and looks back at me.
"Need me to sing?" He asks, chuckling. I giggle, "Y'know I'd like it if you did." I smile. "Alright, just for you." He smiles and thinks for a moment.
"So this is love, mmm
So this is love
So this is what makes life divine
I'm all aglow, mmm
And now I know (and now I know)
The key to all heaven is mine~" He sings So This is Love from Cinderella as we stare into each other's eyes a bit longer.
Is it just me or did something happen just there? Oliver coughs awkwardly and looks away as if breaking out of a trance. We both sit on the roof that I just realized we were on.
"Nice choice on the song." I say, breaking the silence. "Thanks.." he replies, staring at me for a while before looking away again.

"So why did you want to talk?" I ask, reminding him. He scowls, "My dad is coming to visit." He says.
"Why is he visiting?" I ask, lying down on the roof. "He usually visits..he felt that he should come since Ruby's ballet recital is coming up in a few days." He answers.
"Well, do you know how long he'll stay?" I ask. "Probably a few days, he'd usually stay in your bedroom since it's an extra." I nod, "He'll probably just sleep in Ruby's room while Ruby sleeps in my mom's room." He sighs softly.
"Oliver, did he remarry?" I ask hesitantly. Oliver stiffens beside me, "Yeah, he did.." He lays down beside me on the roof, looking up at the sky.
"Oliver, I really don't know what to say, I haven't been through this like you have. But I'll help you get through this somehow." I smile, looking over at him. Oliver looks at me and smiles, "Thanks Iris, I really appreciate it." He says, looking me in the eyes.
I inch closer and lay my head on his chest, hearing his heart beat. It seemed to speed up a bit.
"I'll always be here for you." I admit, feeling myself blush. "Pinkie promise?" He asks, holding his pinkie out for me to shake. "Pinkie promise." I say, locking pinkies with him as I giggle.
He chuckles softly, wrapping an arm around me and holding me close to him. Not gonna lie, lying down on the roof is uncomfortable but..I'm doing it for Oliver. We stay like this in silence for about half an hour. Sadly, it can't last forever.
"Oliver! Iris!" We hear Ms. Sullivan calls out to us.
I hear Oliver groan in annoyance as I sit up. "Looks like we gotta go." I tell him. "Do we though?" He replies, pursing his lips. I giggle, "C'mon Oliver, lets go." I say. "Alright fine.." He mumbles, standing up and holding a hand out to me. I take it without a second thought and we walk back to my bedroom.
Ms. Sullivan opens the door just in time to see Oliver and I holding hands. We quickly pull our hands away and take a few steps away from each other. I look away, feeling myself blush.

"Sorry to break up your moment, but I was going to ask if you could both help me tidy up the house for when Richard comes." She explains, smirking slightly. "Definitely." I answer for the both of us, smiling and ignoring the fact that I'm still blushing. "Thanks dear." She smiles at me before leaving the room.
Oliver and I look at each other, I notice he's blushing too. "So I'm uh..I'll just- I guess...okay, I'm gonna go." Oliver stutters before leaving the room. I giggle as the door closes behind him. Oh boy, we're a mess..a huge mess....

••••Oliver's POV••••
He's finally coming today. I just want these next few days to end already and they've barely even started. There's a knock on my door.
"Come in!" I call out to them. The door opens revealing Iris and she walks in, looking around my room. Oh yeah, this is her first time in here.
My room is nothing special. The walls are a dark gray. I only have a few band posters up. All I really have is a desk in the corner of my room with a laptop on it with a few other supplies like pencils, pens, paper, my unfinished homework, all that stuff. And of course, my bed, with navy blue sheets. See? Nothing special. Well Iris is in here, she's special....anyway..
"Did you need something?" I ask her. She looks back at me, "No, not really. I just wanted to check on you since your dad is coming today." She replies. I sigh softly, "Well, I'm not that upset yet so I'd say I'm better than I'd usually be."
She's hesitant to ask something. "Just spit it out already." I tell her. "What's your dad like?" She asks, biting her lip.
I tilt my head at her, narrowing my eyes at her. "Are you worried about what he'll think of you?" I ask her. "Not really..kinda? I'm just curious." She says, sitting down on the edge of my bed. "I'm not sure what he's like anymore." I glance away from her, feeling uncomfortable talking about my dad, "But he'll like you, I know it." I smile at her.
"How do you know that?" She asks, she raises an eyebrow. "Are you joking?" I laugh a bit, "Because you're you, Iris. Who doesn't like you?" I reply, smiling. She looks surprised and smiles, blushing a bit and I smirk.
Suddenly, the doorbell rings, ruining the moment. "Oh God.." I huff, standing up. Iris stands up beside me, putting her hand on my shoulder. I look back at her. "We'll go through this together, remember?" She asks, smiling. "How could I forget?" I reply and we walk downstairs together.
We walk down to the last step to see my mom open the door and my dad step inside. "Hi dad!" Ruby greets him, smiling. "Oh wow, Ruby you've grown." He replies, smiling and pulling her in for a hug.
He notices me, "And so have you Oliver." He says, smiling up at me. "Hi Richard.." I greet, forcing a smile. Iris frowns at me, probably because I used his first name to him.
"And who might you be?" He asks, looking past me at Iris. "Richard, I've told you about her." My mom tells him. "Ah right, you must be Iris, correct?" He asks, walking towards her.
I grab her hand and pull her closer to me. My dad seems to notice this and he makes the handshake quick.
"Well as soon as I bring my bag up to the room, the day can begin." He says, smiling as he leaves and walks upstairs.
"It's going to be a long three days." I mutter, shaking my head. "Oliver, don't be like that." Iris pouts. "Yeah, Iris is right, Oliver. He's your father, whether you like it or not." My mom adds, crossing her arms.
I sigh, "Fine..I can deal with him for three days.."

How to raise a Hive Queen
This story is about a newborn Hive Queen, which gets raised in an unexpected environment. The first part of the story will focus on her development and the challenges that come with it. Eventually she will start to produce her own swarm of hive creatures. The species of the Hive Queen is called the Sylv and they are a insectoid species with an hive mind. The Sylv can evolve themselves through extracting traits from other non Sylv creatures. This is limited to modify the basic set of creatures the Sylv can produce, they are not able to create completely new creatures. In this regard they are more like ants, who have workers, soldiers and queen ants. The Sylv live underground in so called hive complexes and use living structures in them to produce more of their kind. The Hive Queen is the leader of a Sylv Hive and responsible for evolving the swarm. This novel takes place in a fantasy setting and was inspired by other hive species like the Zerg from "Starcraft" made by Blizzard Entertainment, the Arachnea from "Her majesty's swarm" published on j-novel club, and the Vex from "I don't want to be the Hive Queen" by ValetheHowl. I really enjoy stories with an organic hive mind species and want to contribute myself. The focus and theme of this story will change as the Hive Queen matures and defines the goals she wants to achieve. If you like this story also check out my other fiction "To former Glory" here on Royal Road :D
