《Son of Artemis Book 4》Chapter 18

Look I know the way I came back probably wasn't right by any means. But did I deserve to get slapped that hard by Annabeth. Or do you all agree with her.
Ahh it doesn't matter, what matters is telling my mom I'm alive. Which is going to be hard as apparently her last known was threatening the other Olympians.
I guess I should tell you that Annabeth and I headed off to mom's cabin while Nico went and happily explained his adventure so far to his sister.
"Oh Lady Iris, Goddess of the rainbow. Accept my offering and show me my mother, Artemis. Either on Olympus or with her hunt wherever it may be" I said
It took a minute, but all the sudden the misty water rainbow showed my mother's tent, "Mom" I said, as she was facing away from me with her face down in her pillows.
"Perseus" she asked confusedly, then she realized, "PERSEUS JACKSON WHERE ARE YOU MISTER OR SO HELP ME"
"Mom I'm at your cabin at camp" I said hoping to quell her anger.

Yeah the next thing I had was an angry mother in the cabin. "Where. Were. You" she stated slowly and angrily.
I have to think of how to put this that wouldn't get me in trouble, "ummm at a sister of my sister's island" I stated
Annabeth seemed like she was trying to figure it out but mom beat her to it, "what were you doing on her island Percy"
"Well first I landed in the waters near the island but my body was just like nope I'm rebooting" I said, "so I ended up drifting to shore. Where I don't know how long I was face down in the sand but she found me there requested I relax and get some rest"
"But your restless self declined" mom guessed
"Correct, but I requested some ambrosia and nectar"
"YOU WERE ON CALYPSO'S ISLAND" Annabeth shouted
"Yes yes I was getting there, anyway I reviled I knew who she was. She invited me to dinner and said a raft would arrive at night to take me wherever I wanted, bleh bleh bleh, I remained out in the sun using my powers and the ambrosia and nectar to heal. Went to dinner where she requested I stay for breakfast in the morning before leaving, as the raft hadn't arrived yet, so I went and sat up my tent on the beach, slept alone in there, and come morning I was awoken by three annoying uncles who were hiding from your wrath and I shared breakfast with. Only to finally leave the island"

"So you didn't cheat on Thalia and I" Annabeth questioned
"Percy views her too much as a sister because of Zoë. He wouldn't stay there because that would just feel too weird for him" mom answered
"Really" Annabeth asks
"Well she did remind me too much of a significant annoyance I have to call sister for some reason" I stated
"Do you want me to tell Zoë that you called her that" mom said giving the mom glare
"Please do. I hope she hasn't forgotten she annoys me" I replied sarcastically and she left
"You really didn't want to stay"
"No I didn't. Plus I have everything I could ever ask for and then some back here already" I replied
Annabeth hugged me, though it was short. "We need to tell Chiron and get that mortals help if she's still here"
"Wow look at you. Swallowing your hubris. I'm sure Thalia will be just as proud as I am when she hears of this" I sassed
It got me punched yes, but we left to tell Chiron anyways.
We just finished explaining what has happened so far to Chiron, and we'll he seemed to be thinking about the part where we met Ariadne.
"Are you two sure that's exactly what she said" he asked us
"Yes and thus like I've been theorizing all along. We need the clear sighted mortal to guide us through the labyrinth" I answered
"It just doesn't make sense"
"Why does it not make sense" I countered
"It just doesn't seem...possible"
"I can't believe you thought of the solution before me" Annabeth stated
"I legitimately grew up with the hunters though. And a few were alive when Theseus was"
Of course this is where the resident mortal interrupts, from the stair case leading up to where I presume she is staying, "what now. I'm going on a quest. I'm only a mortal"
"So was Jason" I replied, the ancient one, not Thalia's brother that she thinks is dead but is...I said too much
"And a number of Lady Artemis's hunters" Annabeth added on
"You two aren't helping" Chiron stated, "Rachel" he paused, "I know this is asking a lot of you, but I'm asking you accompany my students down to..."
"I'm not your student I'm only here for the social experience and because Gramps forces me to be here" I said, yeah and if you couldn't tell there was thunder. Zeus doesn't like being called Gramps or old most of the time
"Ignoring Percy. I ask you accompany them down to the labyrinth and guide them to their destination" he said, "there's a reason why the fates brought you to us at this hour. Maybe this is why. Maybe it's for another reason. We have yet to find out. But the choice is yours"

"Isn't the labyrinth extremely dangerous" Rachel asked
"There's worst places to go, but yeah if you don't know your way around it can be" I said
Rachel however looked nervous, and Annabeth slapped me upside the head. "You should be fine. You'll have three demigods with you" Annabeth said
Though Rachel still looked nervous, "I guess I'll go" she stated, "it beats learning a new language here"
"You all should head out in the morning but be careful around the entrance. We've been increasing our defenses" Chiron stated, and Rachel and Annabeth left.
"I assume you wish to speak with me" Chiron stated
"Yes" I replied,
Chiron sighed, "then go on"
"I'll be honest. I don't really like you. And I'll acknowledge that part of the reason you're no longer the director is because of that, and for that I am sorry" I said
"Why"
"Well my teachers, some of which are here now, all held a great respect for you. And my sisters found you tolerable until they found out the schedule you gave to me" I said getting up to leave, "I just figured you should know I don't think your time training heroes is up" I finished leaving the big house.
I know some of you are asking why, but the observant can tell he's worried about losing this job. And well I figured the encouragement was needed. After all his knowledge of monsters and healing is invaluable, even I'll recognize that.
I'll be honest I have no clue what I'm doing here but Percy just handed me this thing and told me some instructions on what to do and I'm confused. He said to tell you all of what I did when he and Annabeth were elsewhere.
Anyways I told my sister of how the quest was and I couldn't tell if she was proud or angry at me.
"I swear I'm going to kill our father" she stated
Oh good she's angry at dad not me. "Anyway can you elaborate on the ghost that wouldn't listen to you" she asked
"Well he was wearing a crown. Looked evil. And was going on about being the ghost king and answering to no one" I said
Bianca sighed, "we should probably ask the staff what they can tell us about it" she said and dragged me off.
"Did you talk to dad" I asked as i was dragged to the sword fighting arena.
"Yes" she stated
"Did he say anything"
"Just that he loves us and is busy with problems in the underworld relating to some unruly judge"
"Oh" I replied, at least he did say he loves us. Even if he doesn't show it.
We entered the arena to see Perseus and Quintus teaching a sword lesson. "Mr. Perseus sir" Bianca asked
"Please just Perseus. I'm not much into formalities like my siblings and father" he said
"Nico when he was on his quest ran into a few ghost"
"I see. Were you able to send them back to your father" Perseus asked
"Well I was sending them back and then there was this one who was troublesome" I said, "he was wearing this crown saying he's the ghost king and shall listen to no one. Do you know who it could be"
Quintus seemed like he was looking at a horde of ghost out for his blood, while Perseus seemed to think, "there might be one candidate who fits the bill. But he's a judge of the underworld. I don't think it would be him"
"When I called my father to yell at him about the situation he put my brother in, he said he's too busy with an unruly judge" Bianca said
Perseus looked surprised, "you should be glad you're his daughter. He doesn't take to that lightly. But anyways if it is the judge. It could be an old fellow king of the ancient world. Pretty well known too"
"Who is it" I asked
"King Minos of Crete" Quintus said, looking like he was a ghost. Hmm I wonder...nah surely his mortal parent was just weird. He's too much in this realm not to be alive.
"Yes he"
"How can I beat him" I asked, "I failed the first time"
Quintus, Bi, and Perseus all shared a look with each other.
Bianca sighed as it apparently feel upon her to tell me, "Nico who is our father"
"Hades, God of the dead, king of the underworld" I replied
"And you are his son, prince of his subjects correct"
"Yes" I said unsure
"Then use your claim to order him back to where he belongs. You are the prince of the underworld. The son of our father Hades. And according to the prophecy the rightful King of Ghost" she said , "don't let him use your own titles against you"
"Ok sis" I said and gave her a hug
"I will never understand my uncles children. They act so differently from him" I heard Perseus whisper to Quintus
"ALRIGHT CLASS BACK TO WORK. CAMPFIRE IS SHORTLY" Perseus said to the others in the arena, with he and Quintus moving off to teach.
"Let's go find your quest mates and see what they've been up to" Bianca said, though I could still tell she didn't like the idea of me being on this quest.

Writers note: The first chapter will set the standard in terms of mood for the remainder of the story. It also comes to no surprise to me that half the people who read the first part stop reading any further. It has quite a bit of the good ‘ol ‘ultra-violence’ mixed with a great deal of realism. As much as I could fit into it from my own knowledge and experience in the elite forces. The first few chapters will be slow, after, but starting from ‘Restless Destroyer’ the remainder of the world will start to open up, and when we hit ‘Adronitis’ the prologue is largely finished. The novel is well thought out and filled with hidden lore, culture, history. So even if my word choice appears random – it’s not. There is a reason why these chapters take as long as they do. Vermodalen is fantasy adventure, with magic and heroics in an as realistic setting as I could fit. Things are rarely what they seem, and the ugly nature of people bleed through the letters at the turn of every page. I hope you can give this story a fair chance, even if it isn’t immediately to your taste. Lastly, english isn't my first language. It isn't my second one either. So, if you find errors in grammer and spelling, wordplay and sentance building, do let me know, and you will be rewarded by a surge of dopamine that will be released inside your brain for helping someone whom you haven't even seen or heard.
