《Son of Artemis Book 4》Chapter 10

Finally she's gone...the wicked goddess is gone. Annabeth made her leave. Praise be to her.
Ok maybe I am over reacting a tad bit, but hey, I hate Hera, because she doesn't really like my adoption by mom.
"Which path should we head down" Nico asked
"The dark one" Grover said, "The bright one smells like monsters"
"Bright one sounds bad too" Tyson added
Annabeth, going against visual judgment as the dark is usually the unfavorable path, decided to have faith in Grover and Tyson and lead us down the dark path.
Thankfully that path was long and straight, though Nico wasn't complaining about the darkness, saying that he could see perfectly fine. I deduced that to him being a son of Hades, and getting some of his father's abilities with shadows, which is very helpful in stealth if used properly.
However, we came upon a dead-end, and whatever Tyson heard, was now clearly heard as footsteps by us.
"Quick" Annabeth said, "find an exit"
We were looking around, for a little and then Nico pointed out that there was a triangle on some rock that was in the way. The only problem it didn't glow when touched.
"Tyson" Annabeth said
"I'll move the rock" Tyson said and started pushing against the rock, after the first time the corridor shaked
"Can you preferably do that without collapsing the tunnel" Grover ask
"It won't collapse from that, it's the labyrinth" I said, as Tyson pushed the rock out of the way and I noticed we were on a small peninsula or probably on some island.
Tyson waited for us to get out before pushing the rock back into place, and just in time too as when the rock settled into place we could hear the banging on it, before all the sudden it became silent as if they gave up on opening the entrance. It also sounded like they left as well.
However, when I was paying attention to the entrance we left out of Annabeth was looking at our surroundings, "We're on Alcatraz" She stated
"How do you know that" I asked
She pointed to some bridge off to our left, "That's the Golden Gate Bridge and from our viewpoint of it, it is the only island that makes sense for us being on"
"Oh" I replied
"Good observation" A voice said from above us
"Hello Lady Ariadne" I stated, simply, knowing it is most likely her.
"hmmm Artemis has trained you to be different" She said, looking at me, before jumping down to our level, "however, I am not here for you" she stated, turning her attention to Annabeth who was closely flanked by Thalia who was standing defensively.

I waved Thalia off, hoping she would get the message and calm down. "So Annabeth, the daughter of Athena, who finally started doing her cabin's paperwork. Why have you asked for my advice, in person at that"
"I don't like this" Grover stated, "it smells like monster, and not Tyson" he amended quickly hoping to not bring offense to the goddess
"You'd be correct little satyr. An ancient monster is here, though which one, I do not know. Now Annabeth, what is the advice you seek, and why ask for me"
"Well, when we were going over the prophecy, at the war council, Percy mentioned somethings. Saying that some referred to you as the Goddess of Labyrinths and Paths, and he also mentioned that you knew how to navigate the labyrinth back before you...umm left Crete" Annabeth said that last part timidly before regaining her confidence, "Then Percy mentioned Hera's hatred of him and Thalia, saying there would be a need to outsmart Lady Hera and ask for something specific and unorthodox"
Ariadne hummed, as if thinking how to responded, "and what is this Percy to you"
"Right here you know" I mumbled, while I was busy keeping Nico quiet, as he was wanting to talk about mythomagic or something
"Percy is...Percy is my boyfriend" she said, probably trying to figure out
"A good choice, but"
"I already know it's confusing and Lady Artemis approves" Annabeth said
"Hmm, that's a surprise" Ariadne said, "Though I can't deny either of yours intelligence asking for me and working around Hera. So I'll be nice and give you the hint you need" She said taking a pause for dramatic effect.
"Though I can't give you the means to navigate the Labyrinth yourselves, the means to navigate the labyrinth resides with mortals, a mortal as I once was. One able to see through the fogs of our world, and see the world for what it is, not what they can comprehend" She said, "I'll be off now. Though I recommend you free the monster's prisoner. He can prove useful in your future endeavors"
"Wait is it true that you" Nico started
"Ahh you must be Nico" She said, "The one obsessed with Mythomagic. My husband likes you, but not the game" she finished flashing off
"But I didn't get to ask her about her card" Nico pouted as she flashed away
"it's probably a good thing too" Grover said, to which Nico looked like he was about to ask why. "If the monster here were to sense her we would be in deep doo do"

"Well Annabeth" Thalia asked
"we should free the prisoner" she said, trying to come up with a plan. "Percy, and Tyson with me, Thalia you stay with Nico and Grover and look for an entrance back into the labyrinth then guard it. It should be close by, and don't activate it until we are back"
Annabeth, Tyson, and I made our way into the actual prisons where Tyson, all the sudden was picking up on the conversation. Eventually the conversation got to where the monster left, leaving Briares unguarded.
"We must hurry and free him" Tyson said, while I was still trying to remember who Briares is.
Tyson grabbed onto Annabeth and I and started dragging us to where he heard the conversation happen. Where once getting there I remembered who Briares was, one of the one-hundred handed ones.
"Let's go Briares we can escape" Tyson said
"There's no point" Braries said
They went back and forth Tyson trying to encourage Briares into leaving and Briares being scared.
"Tyson can you break the bars" Annabeth asked, "We just need to grab him and go at this point"
Tyson nodded solemnly, before breaking the bars, but Briares still refused.
"Would you rather die here, leaving the memory of your fallen brothers and your kind to end, or would rather escape and live to fight another day in the honor of your brothers, and honor them, by standing up to the fears you and them had" I asked
Braries started looking differently, like he put on his confidence face, "Ok I'll go" he said, only to go to a depressed face, and we started leaving.
Only one problem. An ancient monster, one that my mother never hunted, as it was killed before her birth, one she only heard stories about, which is how I've learnt of this monster, was waiting. With the upper half of a human body, and lower half of a dragon, with a belt made of living animal heads, where the two halves met. We ran into Kampê.
Now I understood why Briares was so afraid, she was his original prison warden and she wasn't to nice.
"Annabeth go ahead and get Briares out of here, Tyson and I will buy you sometime right Tyson" I said
Tyson nodded his head, while Annabeth looked like she was against this. "just go we will catch up with you" I said, pleadingly, though I know I didn't sound too confident at my own predicament.
Tyson however pulled off a rail and charged Kampê, while Annabeth finally decided to leave with Briares.
I started praying, "Grandfather, Lady Hestia, Uncle Apollo, give me strength to survive this and keep my plan from my mother" I prayed, though I could feel as if my mother would know about it anyway, because of Annabeth and Thalia.
I then pulled out my shield, which only caused a millisecond of hesitation from Kampê, much less than every other monster to encounter the shield so far. But the objective was successful, she turned her attention to Tyson and me, forgetting about the retreating figure of Briares.
I surrounded myself in the fires of the hearth, and summoned lighting to encase my spear, before firing the lightning off at her being followed by the flames. Which only served to momentarily stun and annoy her, and light her swords on fire. Who knew her poison was flammable.
"Tyson Run" I shouted, and he started running, I following shortly after him. I knew that we were going to be cutting it close.
Tyson and I made it outside the prison cells and seen Annabeth and Briares jump over the edge of the cliff, 100 feet away, hopefully down to Thalia and the others. But shortly after Tyson and I leaving, Kampê burst through the wall, scaring some tourist that weren't to far away in the yard at the other end of the building.
'Yo lil nephew why not use my powers when you call upon me for strength" I heard Uncle Apollo's annoying but life saving voice in my head.
I started channeling sunlight, hoping that it works similarly to how summoning moonlight works.
I'll be honest I didn't know why I was listening to my Uncle's advice, but I had gathered a substantial amount of light and was waiting for the right moment.
20 feet...
15 feet...
10 feet...
5 feet... perfect I turned and released the sunlight in the direction I sensed Kampê. Before turning and running again.
I heard the screams of Kampê as she wasn't able to shield her eyes from the unexpected attack, only to jump down, incredibly tired from the use of sunlight.
Thankfully, Annabeth had Briares already in the labyrinth, with Grover and Nico, the latter of whom was asking Briares about his species's stats in Mythomagic.
"PERCY" Thalia and Annabeth shouted seeing that I simply collapsed once I landed, probably spraining my ankle in the process as I was too tired to land properly.
The next thing I knew was that I was lifted up and thrown over a shoulder, and Tyson shouting to get in the labyrinth at them, before everything went black.
