《The Son of Artemis Book 2》Chapter 16:

I didn't have much time to collect myself and forget about the Sirens as a few short moments later, with Annabeth doing her best to comfort me and keep my mind away from the Sirens, we came up upon Polyphemus's island. There in the distance was two rocky spires that shot up out of the water easily 200 feet high, with a clear walk path up the side of each and a bridge connecting the two separate islands. Though I have a feeling if it was low tide it would be a singular island.

As we sailed closer I noticed that their was lifeboat on the one island, so I knew that Clarisse and Tyson made it to the island, and were likely already up there fighting or captured by Polyphemus. However, on the other island was the golden fleece only problem is that there are sheep up there feasting upon some poor animal as fur and grass were rain down upon our ship, even with us being a few hundred feet away.

"So...which island are we going up" Annabeth asked looking at me.

"I think the backside of the non carnivorous sheep island is our best bet for stealth. But if you want to go on the island guns and cannons blazing we could take the path Clarisse took, or attack the sheep with them" I answered

"Stealth option it is then" Annabeth said and I started helming the ship around to the backside of the island.

You know I like Circe's island as it has a dock deep enough for the Queen Anne's Revenge, Polyphemus however has no such dock. So, we had to anchor out in open water and use a lifeboat to get to the island, and then proceed to climb a two hundred foot cliff face, with the difficulty of the lava rock climbing wall at camp.

You know the good thing about being the only child of Artemis, even though I'm technically adopted, and being blessed by Apollo is being extremely great at Archery. So, deciding to play it safe and give us at least a little bit of added safety I tied a rope to an arrow, twice, and proceeded to fire those arrows practically straight up and prayed that the arrows will be enough to hold mine or Annabeth's weight if we were to slip.

The good thing about my plan it made climbing the cliff face a lot easier, as we climbed up there in about 10 minutes flat. I left the rope and arrow where they were because they could be of great use to make our way back down.

But we didn't have much time to rest as Clarisse was screaming, "GIVE ME BACK MY SPEAR YOU BLIND CYCLOPES AND CHALLENGE ME"

I began to wonder where Tyson was as he should be here as well, but we'll have to wait and see as we are above the cave at the moment. Polyphemus began chuckling and took a while to collect himself. "Eat demigoddess now or wait till wedding" Polyphemus said after collecting himself.

"What wedding" Clarisse asked

"Myself to the lady Cyclops" Polyphemus said in what I'm only going to assume is either gesturing to Grover or Tyson.

"You mean grover the satyr" Clarisse laughed

I don't know about you but I could feel the Clarisse shut up vibes coming from Annabeth and Grover. Sadly she didn't and blew Grover's cover as Polyphemus shouted something about him being blind but he could still see well enough to tell that Grover was not a lady...or a cyclops.

Polyphemus then when along with talking about how the wedding was delayed and how Clarisse is his new bride, and he's going to tend to his sheep, and will be back at nightfall. I could tell Clarisse was doing everything in her power to kill Polyphemus but was likely bound or something as there was only screaming about her being the daughter of Ares and how she's going to kill him...in multiple various and painful ways.

It was at this time that Polyphemus started leading his sheep out and was outside of his cave...and in an easy position to jump down upon him in an attack.

Now if you ask Annabeth what I did it was stupid, because we didn't know if they were carnivorous sheep. I however took the educated guess that they weren't, because Clarisse was still yelling about how she's not going to be married to a cyclopes.

So now you may be wondering, Percy what exactly did you do. I'll tell you now. I jumped off our high ground leaving my bow and arrows for Annabeth to use and hopefully not shoot me with, where as I summoned my spear and shoved it as deep down into Polyphemus's unsuspecting skull as I could.

Good news that came from that is my spear didn't break, the bad news...well Polyphemus was still standing and looking much more dumber than I expected and his movements were lethargic, which means he's still alive and not monster dust.

I pulled out Riptide and Blackbeard's cutlass and decided to dual wield the two swords, as my current ranged weapons were either with Annabeth or embedded in the skull of Polyphemus.

I charged and ducked under the swinging hand of Polyphemus. "Who are you" Polyphemus bellowed.

"A cyclopes who doesn't know the child of Lady Artemis" I pondered questionly, as most cyclopes fear me, except for abandoned newborns like Tyson, who haven't heard the stories of me.

Polyphemus paled so drastically I could have sworn for a moment that he was a child of Hades. "You wouldn't dare kill me. My father will protect me Cyclopes Slayer"

"Your father wouldn't dare raise his hand against the champion of his eldest sister" I replied slicing one of his knee ligaments with Riptide and another with the Blackbeard's cutlass, as he stumbled and fell to the ground, upon which Annabeth landed a nice arrow into the back of his skull, which only caused him more anger.

"are you so sure about that" Polyphemus yelled, "Father help me...save me from the Cyclops Slay" He didn't get to finish as I threw Riptide through his throat where he began to choke with the blockage before bursting into gold dust only for my spear, Riptide, and a few arrows to fall to the ground. I collected the my weapons and signalled for Annabeth to drop down my remaining arrows and bow before coming down herself, which if you're wondering she also dropped down the rope and my two arrows that the rope was attached too.

After Annabeth jumped down we went inside in search of Clarisse Tyson and Grover. Thankfully they were easy to find and just inside the cave and not deeper in the back, however, Tyson was looking at me scared, while Clarisse and Grover were looking at me in confusion and surprise. "What did Polyphemus mean when he said Cyclops Slayer" Clarisse asked.

"Let's just say I was tasked with hunting many rogue cyclops, and I brought them death" I answered which made Tyson look even more scared, "Though I will say I'm intrigued by Tyson, as he's the first good cyclops I have ever met" I added, trying to calm him.

"So you won't kill me" Tyson asked timidly

"Like I said before, young cyclops. If you keep doing good acts, and helping others then, they will warm up to you. And as I still consider you good, you have nothing to worry about" I stated and he seemed much more relaxed about it now. Though I can understand, when you're titled the Cyclops Slayer by cyclops it is not comforting to be near that person as a cyclops.

Annabeth and I freed the three from their bindings though I was mentally questioning why Tyson was bound. "Hey Tyson why were you tied up" Annabeth questioned

"Because he wouldn't kill me upon our arrival onto the island so Polyphemus decided that, he would need to teach Tyson some lessons" Clarisse answered, with a slight undertone of respect for Tyson.

"You're welcome" Tyson said in his more usual cheerful manner.

"So any plans to get the fleece from the meat eating sheep" I asked, as my only plan was to wage war, which is not the smartest thing come to think of it.

" I could go get the fleece but which one" Tyson asked and Annabeth and I looked at him questionly.

"Polyphemus said the sheep won't eat cyclops" Grover explained

"alrighty then" I said, surprised with the information, "anyways it's the golden one in the tree" I answered and Tyson was off to grab the golden fleece.

All was going smoothly until he grabbed the fleece, as he started to have to yell at the sheep because they were hungry apparently. As he started crossing the bridge the sheep hesitantly followed him and were a few feet back. I signaled to Clarisse, and we were both ready to cut the bridge as soon as Tyson crossed, which he did seconds later. Also seconds later the dozen or so sheep who were on the bridge started tumbling 200 feet downwards with an acceleration of 9.8 meters per a second squared.

I would feel sorry for them but sheep aren't meant to eat meat, and I don't like being on anyone's menu for food.

After that experience we went to Clarisse's lifeboat rowed around the island, and boarded the Queen Anne's Revenge to set sail for the nearest city with an airport along the east coast which just so happened to be in Miami, Florida.
