《The Son of Artemis Book 2》Chapter 3:

My school year plans to simply put it, are not going as planned, as my plan was to stay at camp and teach ancient greek and a few other classes to other demigods. However, Percy's mom, Lady Artemis is why they have changed, as she asked me to come and accompany the hunt, as she would prefer her son not being distracted by me possibly being in danger.

I wondered, why until she told me his fatal flaw was loyalty and that even though he may not know it, or realize it yet, she thinks that he loves me, and would much rather have me be safe than be in danger at the monsters soon to be number one target. So, I accepted and grabbed my packed bag, and left only to get ran into by Percy.

Which lead me to getting partially blessed by lady Artemis and Percy teaching me a few things about the hunt, like the tents and eventually the schedule. But they were testing me for most of my first week here, and Percy was grounded. I also found that his sisters were purposely making extra laundry for him to do, which I found funny, but also sad as they went a little overboard everyday.

Eventually, Percy was no longer grounded and I could start hanging around with him, but he spent most of the next two weeks working on a new weapon with Zoë and he asked me to help come up with ways to test the strength and capabilities of the weapon he and Zoë made.

A few days after we finished testing, Hephaestus came down and dropped off his shield, but he gave it to Percy privately, probably so only the two of them would know how it works. Anyways, that's also the day I made the mistake, along with the rest of the hunt, at looking at his shield, and coming to realize myself just how dangerous it could be, and why he asked permission for it.

Shortly after which he dragged Phoebe off, to go train with shield and spear, which she was better at than him, but he improved, somewhat, quickly. "So Annabeth, now that my brother is going to be distracted for a few days, I suggest we work with your knife skills, and get you to drop the dagger" Zoë said to me.

"Can't I wield two daggers though, or a dagger and a knife" I asked, because even though Luke gave me my dagger, and I hate him now, I still like the dagger and am sentimental to it as it was my first real demigod weapon.

"Today no, but you can still keep your dagger, Percy still has all of his old weapons from when he was four and seven, which he retired most of them, but still possess them. So, let's get you a set of knives" She said leading me over to the hunts armory tent, which I found completely interesting that they had one.

"Ok, but what weapons has Percy retired" I asked

"his first bow, first set of hunting knives, and I think like 15 chipped and or cracked throwing knives" Zoë said, and although it wasn't a lot for someone maybe older, it was a still considerable amount for our age.

"Now pick up a set, and if it feels right feel free to take them. And who knows, maybe Artemis will let you keep them come end of year" Zoë said

I spent a few minutes looking around and I found a pair that I liked, they were two celestial bronze combat knives, with an olive wood handle with a silver inlay of an Athenian owl in both the handles. "Can I have these" I asked, showing the two knives to Zoë.

She looked at them showing a brief moment of shock before saying she would need to ask her lady. So I went with her.

As I enter Lady Artemis's tent, following Zoë, I could only stare in amazement at how many pelts were in here, and some of them were pretty rare, others probably extinct. I remember one of my newer siblings saying something about animal rights organization, PETA I think, and I'm pretty sure that they would have a heart attack seeing the interior of this tent.

Turning my attention back to what was happening, Zoë gave the knives to Lady Artemis, who looked at them, and giving them a few twirls, before smiling at them and handing both of them to me, "It looks like my sister, dropped weapons off and didn't tell me" she said, "feel free to keep them, as I'm sure she meant for them to goto you"

"thank you Lady Artemis" I said

"You're welcome niece, but I believe you should start training with my lieutenant now" she said ushering us both out of her tent, and towards the training grounds.

"So how long will Percy be training with his spear" I asked

"Likely until he can consistently beat Phoebe with at least 60% winning rate" Zoë said, before we began our spar, which she cleaned the floor with me quickly, like ten seconds kinda quickly.

"One ouch, and two, how are you and Percy about 50-50 he's never beating me that quick before" I said

"That's because he's likely more focused on studying you and seeing how he can help you best, rather than beating you. But I see I'll have to start taking the same approach" She said

That left me shocked, what does she mean Percy wasn't trying against me, "He also probably didn't want to accidentally hurt you" she said and pulled up her shirt showing me a two and a half inch scar, "He accidentally did this to me once and went on a 50 game losing streak, because he was scared he would do it again, or possibly worse"

My previous shock was now out done, "ok I believe you" I said, as she put her shirt back down covering the scar.

"Good because there's a lot for you to still learn. But from the test with your dagger, I can tell you have the basics mastered, and most of the intermediate skills mastered" She said, which took me for a whirl wind, as barring Percy I was the best with a knife/dagger fighter in camp, and was taking and teaching classes with it.

"They are really behind in skill at camp" I mumbled

"Of course they are, why do you think the hunt wins CTF every time" she said which brought me back to just over a year where they won ten times, against the entire camp, in a row.

After that I spent most of my time training with Zoë, until sometime in early December, when Percy finally decided he was skilled enough with a shield and spear, which I was happy for because I was starting to get tired of his sister beating me, even though I won once or twice, I could tell she still wasn't going all out.

"Hey Percy do you still have those stickers" I asked out of the blue, one day when we were having some free time as I finished my weapon maintenance early and helped him finish his, as his arsenal is enough for at least three demigods.

"Oh my gods I completely forgot to sticker Zoë's tent" He said, and we both went into his tent to grab the stickers.

We came out about a full minute later, only to find his mom outside of the tent giggling, "I take you want me to keep Zoë distracted for a couple of hours once she comes back from hunting" she asked us, and Percy nodded. "Alright fine, but you only get till lunch so be quick about it" she said before moving to sit in the middle of camp, turning a blind eye to what Percy and I were doing.

We entered Zoe's tent and Percy started moving her furniture around, until it was all in the middle of the room. "alright leave the mattress, sheets, nightstand, and her desk, sticker everything else" He said, as he started putting stickers all over her dresser, and I started doing the same to the bed-frame.

Once we finished stickering everything, including the floor, he had me help him push everything back but into the exact opposite place on the other side of the room. Once we were done, we collected the evidence that was left over and bolted towards Percy's tent, where he incinerated it all.

"Act as if nothing happened, and don't deflect the blame towards anyone when she finds out ok" Percy said, and I looked around his tent to notice it was much like Lady Artemis's with enough pelts on the wall to make PETA more than mad, but these ones weren't as rare or endangered.

"Percy why didn't you sell these pelts" I asked touching what I think was a Grizzly Bear's hide

"They are my first, of the animal. They're a bit sentimental to me" he said, "Plus they provide surprisingly great insulation"

"Interesting, so when will I get to go hunting" I asked him

"This trip no, but maybe next year when you go from the stationary to moving targets" he said, and I sighed.

"and what if I'm not invited to come next year" I said

"You get a complete year of kicking Clarisse's ass" he said with a slight chuckle, knowing that's how she would prefer her friendships, full of fighting instead of anything else.

"Tempting, but I think it would be more fun here" I said, to which he just gave a reluctant nod of agreement.

"Children it's time for lunch" Lady Artemis said sticking her head in the tent.

"Ok" we said, and left the tent to only have Lady Artemis escort us to the dining tent.

"Where were they milady" most of the hunters asked, some of which knew we were in Percy's tent, as they saw us running across to it.

"They were in Percy's tent" She said, which got a lot of Percy's in trouble, at which Percy and I blushed.

"They were just talking and they both know they are too young for that" Lady Artemis said, defending both of us

"Suurrrrreeeeee miladyyyy" some of the hunters purred, which she just stared down until they accepted her explanation.

After that we had a nice lunch of some venison burgers, and french fries, which I don't know where they get the potatoes from to make, but they are better than any other I had, even the ones at camp, but food aside I heard a scream that sounded like an angry Zoë.

Half a minute later she came out of her tent, demanding to know who put the stickers on the furniture in her tent, which as Percy told me too, I ignored. As eventually Lady Artemis went over and calmed her lieutenant down.

"Is this normal of her" I asked

"Only when she gets pranked" Phoebe said giving both of us a look, "but if I were to guess the usual culprit stepped up his game"

"I don't know what you're talking about phe"Percy said with a smirk that totally gave it away

After pranking Zoë, I went back to the usual training regiment with her, but now Percy and Phoebe where training me as well.

After about 6 weeks of that, Percy finally challenged Lady Artemis to a knives only fight, which she accepted.

I watched that fight and noticed just how good at knife fighting they both were, and realized that I would not have a chance against the goddess for at least a couple of years maybe even more.

About ten minutes into the fight Percy made a move and disarmed her of one of her knives. And about a minute later Percy had his knives at Lady Artemis neck but she had her remaining one at his.

"You improved greatly son" She said and I could tell she wasn't only surprised, but she was also extremely proud, "shall we call it at a draw" she asked Percy.

"Yeah mom it's a draw" Percy said happily, as they both withdrew and sheathed their knives, or well knife in Lady Artemis's case.

"And you said you wouldn't stand a chance against me Perseus" my mom said from behind me, which scared me a little, but I turned around and hugged her, which she wasn't expecting.

"well as you can see these are knives, weapons I have been trained in to the extreme by my sisters since I was seven, and this was a draw only because I got lucky and disarmed my mom of one of her knives when I was about to lose" Percy explained respectfully, "plus I've only started wielding a spear, I am by no means an expert, professional, or a master in the weapon yet. If anything I am a beginner at worst and an amateur at best"

My mom wrapped her arms around me and I could hear her humming in thought, "well maybe I could give you and Annabeth a few lessons"

"wait what do you mean by give me lessons" I asked pulling away from her

"Well, I can't have my sister's adopted son, beating one of my children in my preferred weapon" mom said, and I could tell she was making this a competition, "Plus what would I do with this" she said summoning a spear that looked exactly like her weapon of power, but it wasn't giving off the energy hers did.

"Is this for me" I asked

"Of course. Now, I'll be coming here once a week to train you both in wielding a spear" mom said, giving me the spear, which turned into a bronze bracelet, which I slipped onto my right wrist.

"What about the interference laws" Percy asked, and I was about to complain about it too, but apparently being the wisdom goddess does pay off.

"Well, if my daughter here, is a 'hunter', I could probably get away with coming here to train her in wielding a spear" Athena explained, using air quotes around the word hunter

"but I'm not a hunter" I whispered

"I know it's just a work around for now though" mom explained to me, "but I have to go. Do know I'll be back in a few days" she said and kissed my forehead before flashing off leaving.

"So you got a name for your spear" Percy and Zoë asked me.

"Wisdom" I said, before I could think properly which got Zoë and the hunt to start rolling around on the floor laughing

"You're as good at naming weapons as our lil bro" Zoë and Phoebe managed to say through laughter. "You two should be destined to be together" they finished coming out of their laughter, only to see Percy and I blushing, sending those two back into laughter if it weren't for lady Artemis stopping them.

The weeks went by, and almost every week my mom stopped by for six hours or more and trained Percy and I in spear wielding, which we were surprisingly even in by the time we were returning to Camp Half-Blood. However, he and Zoë still surpassed me in knives and archery, while I was starting to be on par with Phoebe in knives and about average in archery amongst the other hunters, which is to say in the top 5 when it comes to the Apollo cabin back at camp, well technically number one, or two if you count Percy, just don't tell them that.

The last day of us being with the hunt, my mom stopped by a second time in the week and told us, we could both go against her in a no holds bar match while she could only use her spear and a spare shield, though she did ask that we use spears and not other weapons as Percy pulled out his hunting knives only to put them both away.

Lady Artemis lead us and the hunt over into a near by clearing where we could spar. As she was referring the fight she said go, and I immediately heard a loud lightning strike and saw it hit Percy. I almost dropped my spear, when I started running over to him, only to notice he was fine which didn't seem to shock my mother, Lady Artemis or any of the hunt.

"I was wondering when you would start using that blessing with your weapon, Perseus" My mother said coldly, with a smile on her face, that unnerved me.

"well you said no holding back" Percy said and his spear that was crackling with electricity caught and held flames at both ends as well.

"Woah now, just wait a minute, since when could you summon lightning" I asked

"You remember when I was flashed to camp on top of Zeus's table after our quest" Percy asked

"Yes"

"Well Lord Zeus blessed me as well, with the powers of one of his demigod children" he said, which I nearly went into shock, as I didn't expect Lord Zeus to do that. I'm sure nobody would have expected that, especially from him of all gods, which got me thinking there must be another reason, but I'll have to figure that out later.

"Can we get on with this spar daughter or are you going to stare in awe at your boyfriend still" My mom joked, and the hunt began laughing from where they were watching

"He's not my boyfriend mom, he's my best friend" I said, "and yes we can start"

After I said, we could start mom immediately went on the attack against both of us, and it took me a small moment to realize that, before I started going on the attack against her.

20 minutes later, my mom hit me with the shaft of her spear and I went skidding over to lady Artemis who healed me and told me I was out of the fight.

It only took Percy another five minutes before the same happened to him, except he looked to be on the verge of passing out, even after being healed. "As I told you before Lady Athena, you would win and now you have" Percy said

"Yes but you lasted longer than I expected"

"Only because I had the help of Annabeth for the first 20 minutes after that I was just doing my best to defend myself as long as possible" Percy said, and bowed his head

"Yes it appears so, though I can't say I'm not proud in the improvement you two have both made from never picking up a spear before last winter really" Mom said. "I am most proud of you, my daughter, as you improved far faster than Perseus here". Which I had a feeling she just said to rub in the fact that when it's weapons only that Percy and I are evenly matched, despite him having a few extra weeks of practice with a spear.

"Anyways, I must go now, and have fun at camp this summer children" mom said, before leaving one last time, which I have a feeling I won't see her for a few months at the very least.
