Astrid leaned her head back against the wall, annoyed and pissed at her parents who sat in their cells arguing.
"Prince Charming. Finally I've seen you clearly," Snow sarcastically smiled at her husband who equally smiled sarcastically and remarked, "And what do you see?"
"A fraud." Snow said, "A shepherd who has no business being royalty."
"Well, I see a spoiled little princess who ran away from her troubles, who always runs away!" David yelled back as the two stood up and got closer to each other, the bars stopping them from getting even closer.
"You know what I see? I see me murdering all of you if you don't shut the bloody hell up." Astrid butted in the conversation, rolling her eyes, "I mean, come on. You guys are bullshit."
"And you're just like your mother-- running away from your problems and thinking you're so better than everyone else," David spat at their teenager who simply lifted an eyebrow and tried to lunge at him but failed in doing so from the ropes tied around her securely.
"Please. Is that all you can come up with to say to me? Because anything you say, I don't bloody care." Astrid remarked, "You two are lousy parents."
Snow and David both glared at the girl who didn't even flinch at their looks, the parents exclaiming at her, "Shut up!"
Snow added towards her, "And you're a lousy daughter."
Astrid smirked, tugging at the ropes around her once more, as she scoffed, "Come over here and say that to my face, Snow White."
Snow pulled at the bars before spinning around and turned her back on the girl before facing her husband once again. "I can't believe I ever had a child with you."
"Who knows? Maybe it's really Whale's," David remarked irritated.
Astrid and Kristoff glared at the couple continuing to argue back and forth for the past half hour now until the teenager suddenly realized she had magic.
The blonde made the rope around her disappear as well as the cuffs around her wrists; She stood up and rolled her shoulders and then neck, ridding the stiffness from being tied up for so long.
Astrid then spoke up towards her parents who looked over at her once she had stood up, "Now, I dare you two to say that I'm a lousy daughter, especially when all I ever do is save your sorry asses and bloody sacrifice myself over and over again."

David bitterly laughed and gripped the bars in front of him in his hands, looking at his daughter. "You save us? Please. Everyone knows we'd be better off without you and your self-wallowing, self-loathing, pitiful, spoiled princess-y self-"
"You should've stayed dead," Snow added, also in spite, "You were just a mistake that the two of us made together."
Astrid phased through the bars of her mother's cell by her magic and plunged her hand through her chest, now holding a glowing half heart in her hand.
"Huh," The said teenager remarked in amusement, "I almost forgot that you two share a heart now. No wonder you two are more bloody heartless since you only have half a heart each."
Astrid then stepped into her father's cell by phasing through the bars again and plunged her other hand through his chest, gripping the other half of the heart and now held both in her hands.
"You're right about one thing. It was a mistake ever reuniting with you guys. You've made my bloody life hell." Astrid added.
"You do that to yourself," David scoffed, "Miss 'Oh, I don't care about anyone but myself', but really, you need us even when we don't need you."
"You're wrong," Astrid said, "I don't need you guys. In fact, if it weren't for me, you would all be dead probably."
"Speaking of people being dead, at least we don't get our true love killed," Snow spoke up towards the teenager, "You got Pan killed. That was on you."
"What do you care? You didn't like him. You two didn't care about him." Astrid scoffed, adding, "Even though, he was the only person who made me happy and feel whole again."
David scoffed, "Either crush our hearts and put us out of our misery of being in your presence, Mortefera, or put them back in our chests."
Astrid shoved the hearts back into their chests roughly before she commented, "I would, but I just remembered that I have someone else to kill-- the one who bloody took away my love."
She waved her hand and disappeared in a cloud of green smoke, leaving the three of them to continue to argue amongst themselves.
Astrid appeared where Riley was currently at, which was inside of an art studio that she had shown Riley where she goes to paint and clear her head sometimes.
Riley simply looked over at the blonde and spoke up, "I knew you would show up. You know what I did-- with casting that curse and all..."

Astrid just glared at the brunette who now moved in front of a blank canvas and added, "This is where you are, Astrid. A blank canvas. Fill it, paint it."
"Paint what?" Astrid remarked in annoyance.
"Whatever you feel," Riley shrugged.
"Right now I'm feeling a little bit angry," Astrid glared over at the girl beside again.
"Good. Okay. Let it out." Riley commented as Astrid picked up a paintbrush and began to paint on the blank canvas. "We're not gonna fight or battle it out and we will be more mature than that, right?" The last part sounding hopeful towards the blonde.
"I was a little girl and I climbed through an open window because I heard singing," Astrid began while continuing to paint, "I was attracted to what I saw inside and seen that it was so safe."
Riley smiled, "Hello."
"This little ray of sunshine who didn't have a care in the world, family meals around the table," Astrid continued, "I wanted that. 'How was your day, Astrid? It was great, Dad.' You had that while I went to bed, wondering if my father was going to be at the breakfast table in the morning. I wanted that!"
Riley spoke up in her defense slightly, "I wanted what you had. Every day was a new adventure. Falling in love, going to different islands and realms, being the best warrior in the town. You were the greatest thing that ever happened to me."
Astrid suddenly moved her paintbrush across the brunette's face, leaving a blue paint smear, as she said, "I did my job! I protected you and kept you safe and you still bloody killed my true love."
"There you are!" Riley replied and grabbed a bucket of purple paint and threw it at the blonde who was now covered in purple paint. "I always wanted us to be close, and you were always like my sister. Then you changed. I needed you, Astrid."
Astrid threw blue and red paint on the brunette and it soon became a huge paint war between the two, both now covered completely in paint.
The two suddenly stopped just as they felt a wave of magic passed between them and in the air.
They looked at each other covered in paint and laughed, hugging one another. "I'm so sorry, A. I should have never casted that curse." Riley admitted, still in her best friend's embrace.
Astrid laughed some more and hugged her tighter, tears in her eyes as she replied, "You know what? I forgive you... just don't do it again."
"Never," Riley promised.
Astrid stepped back and remarked about the paint on them, "We look ridiculous." Riley laughed and the two exited out of the building and stepped into the street to find that it was now snowing and the people laughing too.
Riley wrapped an arm around her shoulders as the two then noticed Emma hugging their parents and Regina and Henry hugging.
Astrid grinned and announced herself, "Mom, Dad, Emma!" They looked over at her and immediately pulled her in their hugs as well.
Astrid then hugged her nephew who hugged her tighter while Snow began towards both her and David, "Look, I know that we were under the Snow Queen's curse-"
Astrid stepped back over to Snow and David and cut her off in assurance, "We were under a curse. It's really okay."
Both David and Snow grinned and hugged the girl again as David added, "And you're not a lousy daughter. You're amazing, A."
Astrid grinned big and stepped back as Riley joined her side as she glanced over at her with a smaller smile, Snow wondered aloud towards the two, "So, why are you covered in paint?"
Astrid and Riley shared a look between one another before Astrid glanced back at her mother, still smiling, as she replied, "I made up with my best friend."
"I'm glad that you didn't kill her or anyone during that curse, Kid," David commented.
"If Regina can let go of her hatred for Mom getting her true love killed, then so can I." Astrid shrugged, "Besides, the two of us have a lifetime of friendship between us, and I can't just throw that away."
Riley's brown eyes watered as she quickly hugged her as Astrid half hugged her back. Snow and David then kissed each other, already forgiving each other what they told one another.
Astrid stepped over to her sister as Emma hugged her again with Henry joining in the hug also, Astrid kissing the side of his head while he laughed some.
In that moment, the family and the town was relieved and happy, a new sense of hope about in the atmosphere.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
