《The Son of Artemis Book One》Chapter 23: A Helm Returned

"You have a death wish coming here Nephew" Hades said, looking at Peter, though I think he knew I was mad at him for his terminology.
I took a few deeper breaths to calm myself so I didn't do something stupid.
"Lord, Uncle, I come here with two request" Peter said, and with that he just took the title of stupidest person in existence.
Hades sat on his throne and hummed while releasing more of his power. "Only two, how arrogant are they teaching you children to be. Speak then, before I decide to kill you and your friends" Annabeth looked at him shocked and I was glaring at him calling his bluff.
Peter went silent and I have a feeling that his ADHD, is working over time right now. "I got this" I sighed pulling a practice arrow out and poking him in the back with it.
Peter turned to look at me and I gestured towards Hades "look Uncle we can't have a war between the gods, that would be bad. Please return the master bolt so I can get it back to mount Olympus please"Peter pleaded
"You dare keep up with the lies that have been fed to you, I know for a fact that your quest members have been intelligent enough to see past them" Hades shouted out.
"But you have the bolt sir" Peter said timidly
"Do you think I'm dumb enough to want war" Hades bellowed, causing debris to fall from the ceiling. 'Is Peter trying to get us killed or does he want to die' I began questioning myself
"But your Lord of the dead, a war would expanded your kingdom" Peter said.
Gods of Olympus please kill me as I don't need to hear Hades rant about how large his kingdom has grown within 'the past century alone' again.
I decided to quickly tune out his rant, as you've heard it once, you've heard a thousand times.
"LIES" I heard Hades yell and I am pretty sure he may have just caused a sinkhole somewhere above. "You think I don't know your father's plans". Great Hades wants the bolt from Peter since the helm isn't here, I thought mom would have told him that I knew.
"his plans" Peter questioned
"Yes, you were the thief during the solstice on mount Olympus. Your father guided you to the throne room where you took my helm and the master bolt, and he proceeded to try and hide you. If I didn't send my furies out to look for you he would have succeeded in starting the war." Hades said, annoyed, and damn is he selling this.

"but there was nothing about the helm being missing" Peter said timidly.
" Do you take me a fool, boy? Olympus wouldn't give me justice for my helm missing they wouldn't even care. And since I can't have word of my helm being missing spreading, I looked for you myself. And when it became clear you were coming to me, I let you"
"But you didn't even try to stop us" Peter said
Hades let a sigh out, "I will stop death unless you give either the bolt or my helm to me now. That is my counter proposal. The dead will come back and haunt your lands and your skeleton will lead my armies out of the underworld" Hades offered
"Your just as bad as Zeus" Peter started. why just why did he have to say that never compare the big three to each other unless you want to die. "I came for the bolt and my mother just return them to me" he finished shouting
Hades, summoned Peter's mother, and he ran to her, and I'm certain he gave her a pearl and gave her instructions on its use. "Now give me the bolt which you have on your back" Hades said. Smart barging Hades.
"I don't" Peter started but just seemed to realize that the bolt was in fact inside the bag. I walked over to him and pulled it out of the bag. "You had it the whole time you idiot" I said slapping him lightly with the bolt.
He went straight to the ground, saying ouch. His mom looked at me shocked like she didn't know what to do. Peter collected his thoughts and grabbed his mother backing away towards Annabeth, forgetting about the bolt in my hand, "But Ares gave us the bag" Peter stammered. I discreetly nodded towards Annabeth telling her to just play along with this, and she seemed to understand.
"I should kill you myself for lying to us the whole way here" I said.
"NOW" Peter shouted. His mother and him used the pearls leaving Annabeth and me there.
"It's fine beth, use the pearl I'll be up there shortly" I said and she did the same, though hesitantly.
Hades turned to me before laughing for a short bit about the scene that just played out, "good acting Uncle" I said
"Same for you Percy. But I told you to stop coming here, last time you were here I had to fix Elysium which took months by the way" Hades said
"I did not destroy the system this time. Plus that was my sisters not me" I countered.
"Ugh just don't come back till you're dead please"

"No promises" I said smirking before I vanished in the flames of the hearth, before reappearing on the Santa Monica beach seeing Peter and Ares locked in combat. I walked over to Annabeth and his mother watching. "Hello" I said, causing Annabeth to jump and Peter's mom to let out a small yelp, before placing herself between Annabeth and myself. "Although an honorable sacrifice, protecting a child you don't know, I don't plan on killing anybody today" I said, turning to watch the fight.
"But weren't you working for Hades" she said and the ground rumbled.
I sighed and looked down before shouting, "Stop being a drama queen it's not your job, it's Apollo's" at Hades, " and no I don't work for him, as he's banned me from entering the underworld unless I'm dead, because I've caused to much trouble a previous time there" I said. She nodded before turning back to the fight only to scream as Peter was hit by Ares with the broadside of his sword like a baseball bat and Peter took flight into the ocean.
Ares picked up the bag he gave us before he looked inside it and then bellowing in rage seeing that the bolt wasn't there. "Hey dumb dumb looking for this" I said waving the bolt around like a flag.
"That's rightfully mine by combat give it to me boy" Ares bellowed glaring at me as his sunglasses were melting off his face
"If I am correct, which I am, Peter didn't possess the bolt when he was challenged for it so it's not yours, however I recommend you give me your uncles helm and we can call ourselves good" I offered
"Give me the bolt it's not like you know how" Ares started before he got blasted by me using the bolt, which tired me slightly.
"I'm afraid I'm a quick learner and have learned how to use the bolt, now give me the helm before you get impaled by a bunch of arrows traitor" I snarled, sensing that the hunt was on nearby roof tops.
All of the sudden a dark presence flooded the beach, and Ares started going off about dreams before teleporting out. I sighed, and looked over to where the hunt was, only to see the dissipating light of my mom flashing them all out as well.
I walked up to Ares's bike and took the helm off of it, before throwing it to a washed up Peter. It landed on him, and he let out a grunt before taking notice of his surroundings before proclaiming victory over Ares. I held up my hand telling them not to say anything, "sure genius just hand off the helmet to the furies so they can return it" I said.
He tossed it up to Alecto, telling her to tell his uncle about his great achievement here today. "come on we need a flight home now" I said
"But we don't have money" Peter said. I pointed to his mother.
"I'm sorry but I can't afford four plane tickets back" she said.
"can you afford two" I asked and she nodded.
"fine I can cover the other two then" I said, Annabeth gave me a look like what are you talking about.
Thankfully, we had a nice officer that was there that agreed to take us to the airport, once we gave him information, because of the whole nationwide search for us. He mainly asked us about the 'dead kidnapper', who kidnapped all of us, and who staged the explosion in St. Louis. He seemed like an ok guy, but I had a feeling the stress of his job was hard for him.
Anyway, he dropped us off and told us to have a safe flight back, before speeding off to do whatever. "Percy how are you going to afford our tickets" Annabeth asked.
"I've hunted since I was four, do you think we keep all of our pelts" I questioned, and she seemed to understand how I got the money. Pelts are valuable to those that want them.
"Wait what about Zeus" Peter asked
"I doubt he's going to kill his favorite daughter's only kid, even if he is adopted and I doubt even more because we have his precious" I said, gesturing to my bag which the bolt was in.
The flight was thankfully smooth, and I'm pretty sure Peter still needs new pants, from the minor turbulence we hit after crossing the Rockies. We exited the airport and there was a bunch of news reporters at the door. I gave Annabeth a nod and she was already off down the other end of the area. "Where is she going" Peter's mom asked
"you'll see" I said
A few seconds later, "I think I see them over here" Annabeth shouted, and a flood of reporters fled to where she screamed.
Annabeth came back and removed her cap, "that was..."Peter's mom started
"smart. I know, I'm a child of Athena" Annabeth said all proud and superior like.
Now I'm not dissing Athena or anything, but if it wasn't for the blonde hair I am certain they could pass as identical twins, and switch places at will.
"We need to get to Olympus" I reminded them
Peter's mom hailed us a taxi, telling the taxi driver to take us to the empire state building, as she stayed there and I don't know where she went off to.
