《The Son of Artemis Book One》Chapter 22: A Trip to The Underworld

We sat at the beach waiting for Peter's return and the ADHD was killing us, "why don't we go swimming until Peter returns" Annabeth asked

"Your mother is Athena, and let's just say if war between your mother and Poseidon were to break out my mom will stop the tides and force Apollo to do the same" I replied, implying that my mom is not on speaking terms with Poseidon at the moment. Then again I'm pretty certain she never said a word to him since I was adopted.

Thankfully, Annabeth seemed to understand what that would mean, and just let the subject go.

After another I don't care how many minutes Peter finally returned to the surface looking depressed. "Let me guess it wasn't Poseidon that visited but somebody of his court" I said

"How did you know" Peter accused

"Well the Gods are busy" I said, "Anyways what was your father's gift" I then asked

"these" Peter said pulling out three pearls. I'm beginning to guess that I'm going to have to use one of my blessings to escape the underworld now, or I'm going to ask Hades nicely

"Any instructions" I asked

"Yeah through them on the ground then crush with foot" he replied, "shouldn't we be heading to the underworld now" he asked

I turned to leave without saying a word, and apparently they didn't get the message as Peter started shouting at me, "Where the Hades do you think I'm going we don't have time to mess around so let's go" I shouted back, trying hard not to crack up at the irony.

I started leading them through the city, and we eventually crossed this store called crusty's, which is perfect and exactly where it should be. I opened the door and shot Procrustes in his face before leaving to goto DOA studios. "Why did you do that" Peter and Annabeth asked

"simple or long answer" I asked

"Simple" Peter said

"Long" replied Annabeth

"Well, to start that was Procrustes, and he'll be back in a month or so at the earliest. Why did I kill him, well I needed death to reveal the location of the entrance for us, since we are not Hermes, or a child of the dead it remains hidden until we die, or unless we were recently near death. And if I remember the address correctly It should just be a street over" I replied giving a mixture of their response.

"Then how come a random mortal hasn't seen it yet" Peter asked

"The mist" Annabeth and I replied

I stopped to look back at her and saw her...was it blushing...ahh I can't remember. Anyways I started leading us into DOA studios, when we eventually came upon its entrance. "No solicitors, no loitering, no living" Peter repeated the words on the door, "are you sure mortals don't come here.

"You'll be surprised by the places solicitors get themselves to" Annabeth said

"I'm more surprised he can read" I whispered to her getting a chuckle from her.

I began to open the door, but Peter interrupted me, obviously worried, "the sign says no living"

"Well if it wasn't for the prophecy I would have killed you by now, but considering I can't just follow my lead" I said opening the door walking in.

"Yoooo Charon, my favorite Ferryman how are you doing" I yelled out, and Peter and Annabeth looked at me like I was an idiot

"Ahh Perseus my favorite customer what killed you this time" Charon sassed, knowing I'm not dead.

"Charon, I'm deeply offended you know I haven't died before, I was only coming to visit some old souls to train, and that it was cleared by your boss" I said, and he just sighed.

"Yes, yes, but what killed you this time, I rather enjoy your excuses" he responded and it was now that Annabeth's and Peter's mouths dropped to the floor.

"Well you see we were at the Lotus Hotel and Casino" I began

"Your mom allowed you to enter that place" he asked knowing damn well she wouldn't allow me too.

"Surprisingly yes. Anyways we were in our room and a wire fell from the ceiling into the hot tub, which we just so happened to be in. We got zapped and I feel sorry for the poor sap that finds our corpses" I finished the made up story

"With your clothes on" Charon asked

"Yes, we didn't have time to stop at the hotel gift shop to get suits" I replied, and he began cracking up.

"Alright I'll allow you three to pass but you're on your own once you get down there" He said barely keeping a straight face.

"Standard rate" I asked and he nodded I dug out a handful of drachmas.

"Thanks for paying for your debts, and for this trip with I'm assuming the two questers" Charon said, before signaling for us to follow

"How" Annabeth asked once we were on the elevator coming down.

"Well you see the first time Percy came here for training with a couple of his sisters, he made up a lie so great and sold me on it, that when he came back a second time with his same sisters, he told me he lied and died for real this time, I laughed and told him I knew he was lying, but if he could come up with a good story of death I will keep allowing him passage so long as he pays, which he didn't and just said Artemis will take care of it both times" Charon said and glared at me at the last part.

"well she did, as she was the one who gave me those" I pouted

"Percy how many times have you been here" Annabeth asked

"Thrice times, the first I trained with my namesake Perseus, the second I trained with Achilles, Hector, Odysseus, and a few others from the Trojan war, and the last was with some of the fallen hunters from over time, though they had a hard time believing that their lady adopted me" I said, as Charon brought us to a stop.

"Thanks Charon, I'll try not to come back for a couple of years" I shouted as he already started to leave after we stepped off.

"So how do we get past Cerberus" Annabeth asked, and Peter picked up Cerberus's favorite bone, please don't do what I think you are going to.

Now, I've meet stupid boys before, but I think Peter just took the title, because what he just did, well let's just say he should have flirted with my sisters and that death would be preferable. He threw Cerberus's favorite bone to play fetch with into the river Styx. Like seriously what idiot does that.

Now I'm left stumped between killing him, letting Cerberus kill him, and thinking of away to get out of this deadly situation myself.

Annabeth, however, took care of that last part thankfully. She pulled out the red rubber ball she took from the water park, and started to do obedience training with Cerberus, which in any normal circumstance I would find funny. However, in life or death it's just worrying.

"Peter sneak around Cerberus and just head into the fields of Asphodel." I whispered taking out the two red rubber balls I had.

Cerberus started to completely ignore Annabeth and dropped the ball he got from her in front of me. "wanna play fetch boy like we normally do" I asked and Cerberus started wagging his tail hard enough to move his entire body.

I kicked the ball on the ground and threw the other two for him to go get, and it was hilarious watching the three heads fight for which ball they should go get first. "I'll be back eventually boy, try not to pop the balls in the meantime" I shouted back to him, only to hear a small bark being returned, before we entered the fields of Asphodel, setting the alarms off.

I forgot riptide does that. I grabbed them quickly and we climbed a tree. "Why did the alarms go off" Annabeth asked

"Peter's sword and multiple magical weapons that I have stowed, like my knifes and bow for instance" I whispered in reply, "Hades has a no magical weapons policy"

We were quiet and sitting in the tree waiting as guards passed and eventually left, "How long were we up there" Peter asked

"In mortal time or underworld time" I replied

"There's a difference" Annabeth asked shocked

"for the living yes" I answered, "anyways I would say probably an hour in the over world, and about 2 to 3 down here"

We marched onwards to Hades's Palace, as Peter is arrogantly thinking that Hades has the bolt and Annabeth and I were just following the quest leader's orders.

We had a fairly nice walk up to the palace gates, despite feeling like I was going through Kansas again. "We were expecting you" Alecto growled

"Oh how nice, I believe we have an appointment with your boss about a missing item" I sassed. They looked at me and just groaned.

"I thought we told you never to return here Perseus" Alecto said ignoring Peter pulling out his sword.

"I'm just trying to keep that idiot alive, and I needed to pay my debts to Charon, so I figure why not do both" I said

"Yield Alecto or I'll kill you again" Peter said putting his sword at her throat.

She turned and looked at him dead in the eye before moving the sword away from her throat and whipping him. I held Annabeth back because this was hilarious. Peter was running around in circles trying to avoid her whip, while Alecto was just flicking her wrist in whichever way to crack it at him.

"ALECTO STOP TOYING WITH MY NEPHEW" I heard Hades shout from somewhere inside, cool he's in a good mood today, not.

"fine" she grumbled, "Hades will see you now, right this way"

We followed her into Hades's throne room, where he was sitting in his throne, like he usually is when I visit.
