《The Son of Artemis Book One》Chapter 2: The Baby Brother Arrives

With all the questions running through my head I didn't recognize how close I was to my hunter's campsite. "What" I said, taking notice of my surroundings getting annoyed at somebody tugging at my jacket.
"Milady are you ok, you were zoned out there for a while" Zoë asked
"Yes, I am fine Zoë. I was just thinking for a moment" I answered, only to be riddled with questions galore;
"Milady, What took you so long"
"Milady, What's that in your arms"
"Did you catch anything milady"
"were there any monsters"
is what I heard from the rapid fire of questions. "What took me so long I will explain later, as well as what's in my arms. As for the last two questions I heard, If you count killing a cyclops as catching something, then yes I caught something, otherwise no" I finished answering the questions I heard. "Now go gather everyone at the campfire and I will explain the first two" I said heading over there myself, seeing Auntie Hestia tending the campfire.
"Aunt Hestia" I said sitting down, "May I ask why you are here? You don't come here too often unless it's important" I inquired for the reason of her visit.
"Is seeing one of my favorite nieces not reason enough" she turned the tables on me.
"If it was, wouldn't you be here more often then" I responded flipping the tables again
"I suppose you're right. But, I came here to see your adoptive son, did you really think you could hide him from me"
"I didn't...are you going to stay for when I tell my hunters" I asked as I was seeing them start coming from their tents or the archery range we set up.
"I will. It should keep them slightly calmer" She responded as my hunters started sitting down around the fire with us.
"Lady Hestia" most them said in acknowledgement, as they are aware of her rare visits as well.
"Hello hunters" she said cheerfully. I feel bad as she hardly gets any recognition anymore, which is another reason to hate those demigods at that camp.
Of course, this is the time that Phoebe recognizes that I am carrying a child in my arms, "WHY IS THERE A MALE CHILD IN YOUR ARMS MILADY" she shouted waking Perseus making him cry

I turned to glare at her as I started trying to sooth the child as he was just woken from an ear splitting shout. "Now, Phoebe, why did you have to do that? He is just a baby, and your new baby brother" I said, keeping a calm voice while keeping my glare on her. Some of the hunters started to protest about not wanting a baby brother and he'll eventually betray us. I took a look over to Zoë and saw her expression change the longer I looked towards her.
"How old is he milady" She asked quite timidly. I think she might have caught my glare to Phoebe and didn't want to anger me further.
"He was only born Yesterday," I said giving a glare to the protesting hunters, "and would you all like to find out how he came to my care" I asked as they stopped protesting and Perseus's cry's turned into sniffles, as he held close to me again. Many of the hunters nodded and the rest just sat quietly looking into the fire.
"Well, I left for my hunting trip and was a considerable distance away when I heard the sound of a monster screaming and then a tree being destroyed shortly there after. I went to the location and saw the carnage and made the quick decision to hunt this beast before he could pose a threat to our camp. I tracked him to a clearing by a nearby lake, where I noticed he was doing to a mortal as I was doing to him. I guessed she was clear sighted and I planned on asking her to join the hunt...but as you can see things didn't go to plan. Longer story shortened, I fired at the monster, who turned out to be a cyclops, and killed it, but not before he hit the woman a considerable distance across the clearing. I went to her and realized I couldn't heal her. She recognized me and asked me to raise her son and to tell him that she loves him. As per her dying wish I adopted the boy and swore to raise him, and after doing such I ended up here with you all rapid firing me questions" I finished telling an abbreviated story of what happened.
"But milady he's a boy" Phoebe complained

"He's not even 2 days old Phoebe. Tell me what possible thing could he have done that is considered disgraceful to anyone. Or do you not have faith in me, yourself, and your fellow hunters abilities to raise the child to be respectful towards women and to treat them as they should be. Or are you afraid of losing another baby brother" I challenged, to which she remained silent. "Phoebe, this is your chance of being an older sister again, and for your sisters here to have a baby brother, do with it as you wish, but I adopted Perseus here to be my own son, to be of my own flesh and blood, and I'm not going to give up my chance to be a mother" I finished, thinking I stated that quite calmly...at least for the situation at hand.
Phoebe seemed to be in a state in between tears and anger, likely from me mentioning her baby brother from before she joined the hunt. I know it was a sore topic for her, but she pushed my buttons by not trusting my judgment. "Milady, may...may I hold him" Zoë asked timidly. I guess I wasn't as calm as I thought I was. I looked down to see that Perseus has somehow found himself asleep once again, and I decided to hand him over to her, though I didn't know what Zoë would do. She's the only one that hates males more than Phoebe, and nearly as much as myself.
I gently passed Percy over to her, and she started to hold him. She looked down at him as if she was studying him and still trying to decide what she should do. "What is his name" Zoë asked, surprisingly quiet and calm for her. "His mother named him Perseus Jackson. I think she chose Perseus as he was one of the better Heroes of old, and the last name is her family name by my guess" I answered her question, and she began looking at him again, but with a slightly higher suspicion, probably because Heracles was a descendant of the original Perseus.
Of course, her suspicion turned into a face of horror as Perseus started to cry in her arms. I wish I had a camera to record that face. She tried soothing him, but quickly handed him over to me as she failed to do so, in a reasonable amount of time according to her. I tried as well, but he was still crying and I was running out of ideas of what it could be.
"Could he be hungry or need to be changed" Hestia suggested, "When's the last time he was fed or changed" she questioned
"I do not know, he's generally been quiet and asleep this entire time" I said trying to answer her questions. She summoned a bottle filled with what I presume is milk and gave it to Percy who immediately started to...drink it, I guess. Then Hestia took me to my tent to see if he needed to be changed which he did, and she showed me how.
Damn am I unprepared to raise a child, "Thanks Auntie Hestia, do you think we could go shopping for supplies I need for him tomorrow? I would summon them, but I have a feeling that would raise a bit too many suspicions, from my brother and father" I asked her.
"We can go tomorrow after you have breakfast with your hunt...and don't forget to feed young Perseus when he wakes up in the morning" She said to me before leaving in a column of flames.
I walked back out and the hunters wanted to hold him still, so he was passed around until he finally ended up being in Zoë arms again. Zoë did something unlike her and cooed at the small baby in her arms...well that was until he pulled her hair, causing the hunters, me, and baby Perseus to laugh at her reaction to her hair being pulled. "It's not nice to pull someone's hair Perseus" She said in a slightly scolding manner. Which only got her hair pulled again, causing another round of laughter
"I don't like him. I think he's defective" She said to me in an hurt tone.
"I think it's because you didn't know he was hungry" Phoebe said from besides her to which, Perseus made happy noises.
"alright girls, I think it's time for bed, and Perseus needs to go back to sleep too" I said taking him from Zoë, who looked happy to be relieved of him. Whereas he just begun to hold tight to me, starting to fall back asleep.

The Painter: A fantasy psych thriller and epic
*** June 21th Update ***- New chapters are being posted! I haven't figured out a schedule yet, but stay tuned!- Thank you to everyone who has read and reviewed, I'm happy to say The Painter is in the top 200 best-rated fictions. - Readers of The Painter have suggested reading through Chapter 6 before making a decision on this book.- The story takes place in the Lootverse, but you don't need a canonical understanding to appreciate the storyFinally, a warning or reader beware: This is not an action novel (despite the coming fight scene) but a slow-burn psychological thriller of sorts. For a time, the Painter's life was simple. He lived in the small town of Kinon (called Kinney by locals) with his wife, Kahriah and his son, Thesdon. The story begins with him alone and unable to travel more than a few hundred miles from his home. For 5 years he tried to chart his prison until one day a letter appears with a mysterious commission that will see him test his condition and his boundary. Set roughly 50 years before the impending end of days (from Loot canon), The Painter is a story about loss, grit, and exploration of a seemingly normal man in a world of magic and monsters. The Painter will follow the man on his adventure to restore his family, uncover his commissioners and discover the nature of his condition. Loot is the decentralized, global, community built fantasy world based on Dom Hoffman's art/tech experiment: Loot. Fun fact: The cover of our book is painted by the artist, who the MC is loosely based on and the same person painting the Banners (digitally) IRL for an art/worldbuilding project.

New God
Who said being a God was easy. If you started omniscient; omnipotent and omnipresent then it might be. However, without those powers it would be a different story entirely. This is that story. Adam is thrown into a new world with no choice and no instructions. At least he is a God, whatever that means... Lovely Royal Road readers: Imagine a tutorial with no instructions and no idea what the game was meant to be and what you are trying to achieve. All you know is that you are a God (whatever that means). So this is quite slow to start; mainly world building for me; a bit of base building by the MC and some good old minion development. I'm developing/practicing my writing and love the format of RR to get it out of my head. So hopefully it gets better with time as I get better. All feedback welcome - but please critique and tell me why you don't like it (if you don't) I'd rather a 1-star review than a 2-star(plus) rating!

The Prince of the Sand
“Today you have to be the strongest man of all, son. After we deliver you, you will survive, and we will die.” When the Xalya Dungeon is about to fall under the attack of an alliance of savages, the last lord of the steppe entrusts his firstborn with a painful mission: Dashvara has to pass himself off as a member of an enemy clan, as a Shalussi, to exact revenge in a shameful way. Forced to see his people killed or enslaved, this heartbroken but still proud and humorous steppe man will soon be dragged in a surprising adventure that will shake his will and beliefs. This story follows Dashvara as he struggles through foreign lands and discovers that the world is not only made of deserts and horses but also of “civilized” societies with strong bureaucracy and slave-based systems. Author's note: The fantasy setting has some ancient Roman influences. Also, expect a bit of slice-of-life and comedy along Dashvara's philosophical journey. Despite the “gore” tag, violence is not the focus of this story and descriptions are not particularly gruesome. Updates Mondays and Fridays. This is a Creative Commons By work. It is a reworked and continued translation of a trilogy I wrote in Spanish between 2016 and 2018.
