《Chasing Rain ✓》Lesson

Thinking about the future just ruins the possibility of the present.

-Rain

"Lets go.", I stated.

Sam placed down Amber as she made her way in my direction, curling her hands around my left leg. Her hands felt warm around my cold self.

My baby!

I swallowed back my tears. I didn't look up to meet anyone's glaze. Today I again felt like a victim just like I felt three years ago. I just wanted to be back at Damien's place and maybe weep a bit. Drowning myself in my miseries.

"What is wrong baby? Why leaving so suddenly?", nana asked from back while placing her hand on my shoulder. The whole room was quiet. No noise could be heard. Oh nana, I have no answer to your question.

But still I needed to keep a brave front. I turned around and looked at her in her eyes. I made sure no tears clouded my vision. My nana could never read me like an open book so I have less to fear.

"I am fine old lady. Just remembered some work.", I said softly as I pulled Amber by her hands. She obliged quietly maybe understanding her mother's inner turmoil.

"But Rain......"

Nanu started but I was swift to cut him. I couldn't take it anymore. I felt suffocated and maybe tortured.

"I will talk to you later nanu and nana. I have some urgent work.", I made an excuse. But I don't think nana or nanu bought my words. They looked suspicious and I have nothing to prove their suspicion wrong.

"Ah, even I have some important work so Naomi we should get going.", I heard a voice from the back. But I didn't need to turn back to know it belonged to Damien.

I could feel his body heat and the scent of after shave mixed with perfume before his shoes came in my line of view. I could feel him bending down to pick up Amber before he took my left hand and without saying a word made his way out of the house.

Typical Damien!

His hands, they were so warm and before I knew, the hand that was holding me was securely tied around my waist. I felt safe. He was anchoring me from a fall he knows nothing about.

I was too lost in my world. My mind hazy. I couldn't feel anything. I felt numb and maybe it was good. Darius words, they were revolving in my mind.

"He will come out someday. What will you do them? I know he will come for revenge. Who would save you and your daughter?"

How could I forget this. How stupid of me to think he won't be ever back! I was too busy forgetting my past to look back at it and remember you can't run away from somethings.

But again it is something that will happen after seven years. No Rain, you have no need to think about it. Seven years is way to ahead. But what will I do then?

This thought wasn't ready to leave my mind. When Darius brought up my past at that time only I was falling apart but when he used the word revenge I completely lost it.

A sudden jerk in the car brought me out of my daze. I looked outside to see the car has come to a halt.

When did the car start?

"Come.", I heard Damien softly whisper. I looked outside the window in Damien's direction to see he has parked the car near the park.

"I want to go back to your house Damien.", I stated. I heard Damien sigh. It wasn't a frustrated rather a soft sigh.

"You are going to feel a lot better here.", Damien said softly.

Determination was clear in his eyes and I knew I wasn't neither capable of changing his mind nor I had the energy.

I looked down at Amber to see her looking at the park with curiosity. I couldn't break her heart. After all I was doing everything for her.

I nodded my head as both Damien and me exited the car. The weather was good but the storm inside of me wasn't calming.

I put Amber on her feet as she dashed inside the park. I didn't know she had so much strength left in her body.

I heard Damien chuckle from the back.

"Slow down baby. Or you will fall and get hurt.", Damien stated and I couldn't agree more. But it looked like Amber was in her own world much like her mother at that moment.

I kept an eye on her while both Damien and me entered the park. It had a lot of kids loitering around in it with their parents.

My childhood was also spend in this park. I felt a small tapping on my shoulder. I looked at my side to see Damien looking at me worriedly.

I passed him a fake smile hoping that he would buy it.

"I can look through your lies.", he stated and I was stunned. Even my nana couldn't do that.

"I don't want to talk about it.", I stated softly.

He sighed but I knew where his mind was going. I don't know how but I was able to understand him and his wicked mind.

"I need a promise from you.", I told Damien. He made a confused face but neither the less complied.

"By no means you and you people will contact or hurt Darius.", I said softly.

Surprise registered on his face. I know how your mind works Damien Black. I do.

"I- how?", he was confused. His confused face made him look cute.

"You want me to trust you and give you a chance so don't get in my private life. When I will start trusting you enough I will tell it to you myself. For now just promise me.", I urged pushing forward my hand.

The emotions on his face was conflicting but still he gently placed his hand on mine and passed me a curt nod. I smiled in relief.

"Just tell me one thing how you knew that was going inside my head?", he asked and I just shrugged with a small smirk on my lips.

"Now let's do something of the koala that is clinging on to my leg.", Damien stated.

Koala?

I looked down to see it was Amber who was clinging in to Damien's muscular leg.

What was she doing here? I thought she was playing? I sighed.

I bent down at her level. She was sitting her inner cheek. A thing she does when she is anticipating something to happen.

"Young lady you are suppose to make friends and play with them.", I said sternly.

Amber made a way to innocent face but her eyes were glinting with mischief. I knew this look to well.

"No Amber.", I said but before I could have said anything else she rushed towards the group of trees and my heartbeat picked up.

Last time it didn't end up well.

"Damien we need to catch her before she gets out of the park.", I said hurriedly.

"Gets out of.."

"Damien I have no time to explain it to you. We need to catch her.", I said as I rushed out in her direction with Damien hot on my trail.

"Amber, baby please come out.", I said.

My heartbeat was skyrocketing at that moment. I can't lose her. I looked behind every bush and tree. She wasn't there.

"Hey."

I looked behind to see it was Damien. It was only when his rough hand touched my left cheek I knew I was crying. I looked in his grey ones. Concern lingered in them.

"I have my men all around. She can go nowhere. Trust me. In a few moments they would find her.", Damien said softly. There was no hesitation in his voice. He was completely confident.

I don't know why I did that. But I placed my head on his hard chest while clenching his shirt as I cried.

Hard

I don't know why I was crying. For the past, for the present or for the future. For my pains or for my insecurities.

Damien tied his hand around my body. One around my waist and the other one around the back of my head. He placed his chin at the crown of my head.

The warmth and the safety it provided made me cry harder.

"It is okay. I am here.", Damien said softly.

I nodded my head and snuggled deeper.

"Boss. Miss Amber. She was trying to leave the park.", I heard a strong voice and the spell that had me wrapped broke.

I looked ahead to see it was Amber trying to break free from the grip of a man in black suit.

"Why the f*ck is she crying?", Damien roared from the back.

The man let go of Amber as she run in my direction and wrapped her dainty arms around my right leg.

It took everything in me to not bend and kiss her. But she needed to learn. I looked ahead at the man who caught her.

"Thank you.", I said in gratitude. But I think Damien had different plans as he went to the man and held him by his neck.

"Why the hell is she crying?", he yelled at the poor man who I assume was his bodyguard.

I sighed. But I should have expected that.

"Damien, she cried because a stranger held her. Nothing more. She is perfectly fine. We should thank him.", I said. Damien looked behind and I made a pleading face making him finally let go of that man.

Damien waved his hand dismissing him. No gratitude what's so ever.

I felt Amber tap my leg but I didn't look down. Damien gave me confused look as he went and picked her up.

"Why you ran baby?", Damien asked her softly as Amber hung her head.

Ashamed

I looked at her as she started combing her platinum blonde. She wanted to come in my arms. Damien was also about to pass her to me.

"No.", I said sternly with determination.

Damien looked shocked while fat tears were falling down from Amber's cheeks. It clenched my heart to see I was the reason for my child's sorrow but something's are meant to be done.

"You are making her cry.", Damien said softly as he placed Amber down who came rushing in my direction.

"Stop there Amber.", I said while signalling with my hand. She obliged.

"Who do you think I am? A superhero who will save you from everything. I am a mere human and I can save you till an extent. Last time when you ran like that you almost met with an accident but you fail to understand that some of your notorious activities can cause your life. Why don't you get it baby?", I asked.

There was a defying silence.

"Do whatever you wish to I don't care from now on. I am going back to Damien's house. If you want to run again then it's fine because you can't understand my pain and the thing that I only have you.", I said while I furiously wiped of the tears with the back of my hand. I didn't turn around even once as I made my way out of the park.

I was about to hail for a cab but a hand stopped me. I looked at my side to see it was Damien with a crying Amber in his arms. His face was blank but his eyes were filled with agony.

"Please, stop it Rain.", Damien said softly as he started taking me or rather dragging me towards the car.

One of his bodyguards opened it as he gently shoved me inside. He got inside the car from his side with Amber still in his arms. He placed Amber on his lap as both of them looked in my direction.

I lowered my glaze. I couldn't stand looking in their eyes any longer.

"Forgive her Rain. Maybe not for her but for yourself. You are hurting yourself mentally by doing that. If you can read me then even I can read you. Also Amber has promised me that she won't do anything of this sort again. Right Amy?", Damien asked looking down at Amber.

When did Amber got the nickname of Amy?

I looked at Amber as she eagerly nodded her head. She was being sincere but again she is always sincere.

"Pinky promise?", I asked her while putting forward my pinky finger.

She wrapped her tiny finger around mine as she jumped in my arms making me squeal and Damien chuckle.

I felt content at that moment. I patted her head as I kissed her forehead.

"Where did the name Amy came from?", I asked Damien curiously.

"You know everyone calls her baby, princess or cupcake. I wanted something that only I call her so yeah Amy.", he said. His voice oozing with pride at his accomplishment.

"You know my papa's nickname for me was Marshmallow as he loved marshmallow. He used to call me princess most of the time but when he would be warning me or making me up he would call me Marshmallow.", I said while chuckling to myself.

"If you want even you can call her Amy. I will give you that liberty.", he said teasingly.

"No only you call her that. It should be a thing between father and daughter.", I said

Damien smiled and nodded his head.

"Home now?", I asked.

"Nah, to the mall.", Damien said as I sighed. It is going to be a long day.
