《Unexpected Arranged Marriage》Part 6

Flashback (A little before Tae sent the message)

"Hyung, do I really have to text her?" my brother asked me all of a sudden as I was driving him back to his apartment since we carpooled today. moonwritesfics

"She's your fiancée, Tae. You should be doing that on your own without having me to even instruct you," I shook my head in disbelief. "But you were the one who made me get her number though," he added.

"Do I have to repeat what I've just said?" I somehow raised my voice a little. My brother kept mum as he turned his head to look outside the window.

"Isn't it too early to start texting her? It has only been a day that I know her," he said without looking at me. moonwritesfics

"You are marrying her, Tae. There's no such thing as too early anymore," I told him with a rather stern voice. "It's just a marriage," Taehyung mumbled under his breath but it was loud enough for me to hear.

"Just a marriage? Are you even listening to yourself right now?" I questioned him. "What?" he shifted his gaze to me with a frown visible on his face.

"Marriage is not something you can play around with, Tae. If you don't want to get married, then why the hell did you ask mom to set you up with someone?" I nagged but he stayed quiet.

"Might as well you just wait until you find someone on your own and get married when the time comes," I added. I could feel the atmosphere in the car was getting more tense.

"Tae, she's going to be your wife very soon. At least try and get to know her," I continued and heave out a long sigh. "I did try," my brother suddenly snapped back at me. "We've talked a little today," he added. moonwritesfics

"That's good then," I pointed out. "So, texting her isn't going to be a big deal now, is it?" I glanced at my brother. Taehyung took in a deep breath and exhaled with a sigh.

"What would I even say to her, hm?" he asked me while showing me the blank messaging window on his phone. "Just say thank you to her since she had joined us today," I suggested.

"And you could tell her that you would want to get to know her more," I continued. I could see Taehyung was typing something, and then deleting it again.

"Also, since she's driving home alone, you could ask her to text you back when she had arrived home, to check that she's safe," I gave more tips to my brother. moonwritesfics

"Done," he declared. I kinda feel that he wasn't feeling entirely happy with what I had him do, but I just shook that thought off.

-End of Flashback-

I replied to Taehyung, telling him that I've safely reached my destination. My mind wandered a little as I rotated the engagement ring on my ring finger. Mrs. Kim bought me and Irene engagement rings as well and asked us to wear it since, well, we're engaged to her sons now.

I turned off the ignition, grabbed my things and got out of the car. I unlocked the door and swung the front door open. Mom was in the living room watching tv.

"You're back already?" was the first thing I asked her once I stepped into the house. I really thought she would come back much later than I would. moonwritesfics

"Yes. I just got back about half an hour ago," mom replied. "How did the shopping go?" she straightened her posture as she stretched her upper body. "It went well," I answered.

"So, which dress did you choose?" mom asked. "I haven't chosen one yet. I wanted to show you first," I said. "Oh, but Sooin sent me the pictures already," mom said with a frown. "I already told her I like the final dress," mom said, this time, with a smile.

"What? Who's Sooin?" I was pretty much in a blur. "It's your soon to be mother in law, of course," mom chuckled. "Mrs. Kim already sent the pictures to you?" I was now muddled. "Yes. She didn't tell you?" Mom frowned and I shook my head as a response.

"If I knew you'd like that dress, I would've just given her my answer back then," I sighed. "No, no... we can go through the dress pictures again. I'm pretty sure you would want to hear my opinion," mom winked and I rolled my eyes playfully at her.

I plopped myself down next to her on the sofa and brought my phone out.

I went through the gallery and tapped on the first picture. "I think this is too poofy for you," she giggled. "Oh wait!" Mom suddenly exclaimed which made me jump a little.

"This is beautiful," she gasped as she noticed the ring on my finger. "Yes, Mrs. Kim bought it for me as my engagement ring," I explained and mom smiled as she adored the small piece of jewellery. moonwritesfics

"Mom, I have a question..." I suddenly asked.

I think she sensed that it was going to be a serious one, therefore, she switched off the tv. "Yes?" she cocked an eyebrow up.

"Who is Mrs. Kim, actually?" I got the question out of my system but I could see mom was not getting it.

"I mean, where did you meet her?" I tried to further clarify and mom suddenly let out a little chuckle.

"Don't get me wrong... It's just that, I've never heard of her. Then suddenly out of nowhere, you wanted me to marry one of her sons," I continued and mom gave me a soft smile.

"How long has this question been lingering in your mind," she asked as if she knew it had been bothering me. "Since yesterday, I guess?" I raised my shoulders. moonwritesfics

"Well, the both of us actually go way back," she admitted. "Really?" I knitted my eyebrows.

"We're best friends when we were in primary school," she revealed, which made me even more confused because I know all of her best friends but Mrs. Kim was never ever mentioned.

"She was a new student at that school. She came from a broken family because her parents were divorced. And at that time, that matter was being looked down so badly in our society," mom started to open up.

"So, when other students got to know about it, they somehow made fun of her. Some even started to bully her," mom continued, her facial expression somehow showed a little hint of sorrow and regret. moonwritesfics

"I didn't know that she was being bullied since she was not in my class. But one day, it happened in front of my very eyes. So I helped her," mom added. "We were inseparable ever since," she ended the story with a smile.

"Then what happened? I mean..." I said but wasn't able to finish my explanation.

"Well, then, her mom got married to her step father, so she had to move away," mom explained.

"We wrote letters to each other back and forth a few times. But I think she moved a lot after that due to her step dad's business, so the letter-writing stopped just like that," mom unfolded more.

"But a miracle happened, I met her at a bookstore years later. I think you were about 7 if I'm not mistaken," mom pondered a little.

"We even had a picnic together that one time," mom recalled but I wasn't able to remember any of it. "You even played with Jin and Taehyung as well," mom chuckled and my jaw dropped at the new information.

"I did?" I crossed my arms and my mom nodded to my query. moonwritesfics

"But I think that was the only time you saw her and the boys because they left the country not long after that due to Jaehoon's business," mom continued.

"Jaehoon? Mr. Kim, I'd assume?" I asked and mom let out an airy smile with a nod.

"So, again, we lost contact," mom said with a little exasperation. "However, another miracle happened and I saw her at the post office a few months ago," mom laughed.

"Turns out, she just got back from overseas last year but had to accompany Jaehoon for a few other long business trips," she continued. "Anyways, me and her got together a few days after that and had caught up with everything!" she added. "So that's the story," mom concluded. moonwritesfics

"Umm... but how did this whole arrangement come about?" I was still a little bit curious.

"Well, she had told me that both her sons asked her to set them up with someone," mom clarified. "She asked me if you were single. Hence, one thing led to another... Here we are!" mom unveiled it in detail. 'Well, that was a very direct explanation,' I thought to myself, almost finding it a little funny too.

"Wait! One more thing," I held my hand up. "This marriage of mine... Is it considered arranged, or umm... forced?" I could feel my voice had started to tremble as I said it out loud. Mom's eyes widened instantly.

"Oh my! Do you feel like you're being forced?!" mom's voice was filled with concern.

"No, no... I mean... You know... I've read somewhere, that rich businessmen usually force their kids into marriages just for the sake of their businesses, or something," I nervously explained. moonwritesfics

"Aish this girl. I think you watch too many dramas," mom laughed. "I barely watch tv, mom," I looked at her, unamused.

"Well whatever it is, honey, if you don't feel happy about this marriage, I'm extremely ok if you don't want to continue with it," mom said as she held my hand. "You just need to let me know," mom smiled, giving me some assurance.

"But don't take too much time to think, though. It's a little rude to waste people's time on us," mom reminded me and I nodded understandingly. moonwritesfics

"You know, I just think that it's easier for me to set you up with someone so that I wouldn't worry much about you," she said while tucking some loose strands of my hair behind my ear. "Me and your dad are getting older..." she added. "We would at least want to see our grandchildren before we go," she wiggled her eyebrows at me.

"Mom!" I exclaimed while pulling my hand away from her which made her burst out into a silent chuckle. "What?" she asked innocently and I shot a look at her.

"But on a serious note, I meant what I said when I don't really mind if I don't want to proceed with this arrangement. I don't want you to feel pressured on doing so," mom said with a more serious tone.

"Thanks, mom," I smiled. "Ok, so, dress number 2," she motioned me to show her the picture of the dress to continue with our review session once again. moonwritesfics

I still don't know whether I should just come clean about my feelings towards Jin to my mom. Although it's just a little crush, it was somehow contributing to this considerably huge dilemma.

Knowing mom, I think she might just point out that Jin's getting married to Irene, so I really don't have any chance with him whatsoever anyways. But I do still feel weirded out a little when the thought of Jin being my brother in law came to mind.

If I could and if it was really that easy to do so, I would've decided to end this right there and then. But seeing how my mom was excited that I'm finally getting married, with her best friend's son to add on; I just didn't dare to say no now.

My parents had sacrificed everything to raise me up. It's the least I could do, right? Plus, I don't think that the Kims are bad people. Also, now that Taehyung seemed a little interested in me, I should put more focus on our relationship instead. moonwritesfics
