《Unexpected Arranged Marriage》Part 1

I was at the supermarket with a list in hand. I scanned through the piece of paper once more and heaved a long sigh. Most of the items written on it were of vegetables, herbs, and other raw materials that now I know the name of but still don't know how they look like.

After contemplating on what I should get first, I finally decided to start with the herbs.

I assumed that I might be spending the least time getting those because I know well the labels are going to be there anyways. So it'll be easy enough for me to carry out the task. Or so I thought...

I made my way through the aisles with an empty trolley. One thing led to another, now, I was standing in front of the herb's shelf. moonwritesfics

My jaw dropped, seeing all various kinds of herbs available before my very eyes. I took a deep breath and exhaled.

"You can do this, y/n," I said under my breath, giving myself a pep talk.

I exchanged glances from the list to the shelf, trying to figure out which one I should be buying.

First item. Black pepper. 'Sounds pretty easy,' I thought. But then I saw that there are coarse ones, whole ones, powdered ones. 'How would I know which one to buy?!' I exclaimed in my mind as I massaged my temple.

I took out my phone and texted my mom for confirmation on which one she actually wanted me to buy. I've waited for five minutes already but still no reply.

'Nevermind... I'll just go with the second item... Oregano,' I took a step back and started to search for the label. Then I saw that there were dried ones and ground ones. 'This is gonna be a long day,' I facepalmed mentally. moonwritesfics

"Oh, I'm sorry, I have to get that one," a man's voice was heard as he reached his hand out to the item in front of me. "Oh, sorry," I said as I moved myself a little bit to the side.

"Sorry to bother you, but you look really tensed right now. Are you ok?" He asked politely but I didn't reply because I was still a little zoned out.

"Well... Ok then..." he said as he started to walk away. "Oh, wait... I'm sorry. Did you say something just now?" I shook my head as I came back to reality.

"You looked stressed out. Are you ok?" He repeated once our eyes met. 'Damn he's so handsome,' I could feel my eyes widened but I tried to play it cool.

"Umm... so I have this list," I started as he brought his broad-shouldered self nearer to get a closer look. "Well... This is kind of embarrassing, but I don't really know which one is which," I continued but he just chuckled.

"No, I mean, I 'know' but I don't know, you know?" I said nervously as he frowned and shook his head, but surprisingly with a grin on his face.

"What I meant was... like this Oregano. There are 2 types. I don't know which one to get," I explained. "Ahh... I see," he smiled and nodded understandingly. "Do you know what you'll be cooking?" He suddenly asked with a little seriousness present in his tone.

"Umm... This is actually my mom's list. So I don't really know what she'll be using all of these for," I confessed. "I've texted her, but there was no reply," I blurted out as I showed him my phone and earned a cheeky grin from him. moonwritesfics

"It's ok, I'll help you," he said. "You will?!" I exclaimed with joy as he nodded with a big smile.

"You're my hero!" I added excitedly and noticed his face flushed red. 'Ok, maybe I shouldn't have said that,' I thought.

"So let's start with oregano. Most probably she'll be making pasta," he started. "So I'd suggest you buy the dried ones because then the taste won't be overpowering," he continued.

"Oh, if I'm making pasta, I wouldn't need much oregano," I said but he wrinkled his nose. "I'll need more 'Thyme'," I chuckled as I grabbed the packed thyme leaves. He burst into laughter.

"That was actually a good one," he said while still laughing. 'Oh thank God he got that one. What are you doing y/n, don't be weird,' I reminded myself.

I thought he was only helping me with the herbs but he ended up going through the whole list with me. I already told him not to but he insisted on helping, I couldn't say no. moonwritesfics

"So, does your mom know that you don't really know those things on the list?" I asked nervously, trying not to offend her. "Yeah she knows," she admitted. "Then why would she send you to get them?" I asked with confusion.

"I know we've just met, but I'm getting married soon. So she's "training" me," she bluntly stated while air-quoting the word 'training'.

"Oh, congratulations!" I exclaimed but she didn't show any reactions which made me a little puzzled. "Sorry... But aren't you supposed to be happy? To marry the love of your life?" I raised both eyebrows. "If your marriage is not arranged, maybe you would be," she let out a scoff.

"Ahh... the typical arranged marriage," I said with a chuckle but she was still pretty much unamused.

"I don't know the guy. What if he's a serial killer?!" She raised her tone.

"I don't think your parents will set you up with a serial killer," I shook my head. "He's a stranger..." She wanted to make a point but I interrupted.

"I'm a stranger to you, yet you are walking around with me voluntarily. How are you certain that I'm not a serial killer?" I argued. moonwritesfics

"Do you eat cornflakes?" She suddenly asked. "Yeah why?" I questioned. "Oh my gosh! You're a cereal killer," she gasped playfully.

I laughed out loud at her joke. I couldn't hold myself back from not doing so. "Why do you have all these jokes?" I asked. I still couldn't stop laughing.

"See? What if my future husband doesn't like my jokes? I can't live with that," she whined.

"If it makes you feel any better, I'm getting arranged as well," I said with a smile and her eyes widened. "Really? Aren't you worried?" she asked with a frown. moonwritesfics

"Nah, I don't have much time to date, so I asked my mom to find me my partner," I stated. "What?!" She was now bewildered. I just laughed at her reaction.

"I'm pretty sure my mom will choose someone that suits me well. So I'm not worried at all," I shared my thoughts. "Has she found your future wife yet?" She asked.

"Well, she said she has one in mind. But I have yet to receive further details," I replied to her query.

"Could you please hand me your list?" He all of a sudden put out his hand and I passed him the paper. "It'll be easier if I just pick out the things for you so that we can converse freely without you worrying too much," he smiled.

"So... Do you know when you'll get married?" He asked me while we were walking through another aisle. moonwritesfics

"I think it's gonna be soon, but I'm not really certain about it because my parents wouldn't tell me anything," I exhaled. "Why?" He instantly asked. I could sense he was a little curious.

"Well, they have arranged a few blind dates for me before. But I managed to escape every one of them," I answered as he kept on putting things into my trolley.

"So this time, they decided not to tell me anything so that I wouldn't be taking any questionable drastic measures," I finished my sentence. He giggled at my remarks. "You're that determined on escaping, huh?" he raised his eyebrows at me.

"Ok, yours is done," He handed me the list back. "That fast?" My eyes widened with amazement and he nodded enthusiastically. "Have you finished with your shopping?" I asked, pointing to his basket. He did pick up a few things along the way when he was getting mine. moonwritesfics

"Umm... I still need a few more things," he stared into his basket. "Umm... I can accompany you. I have some time," I suggested. "Sure," he nodded at me.

Well, to be honest, I didn't want to go yet because it was actually comforting to talk to someone, especially when they understand what you're going through.

But surprise, surprise, my phone rang at that very moment. It was my mom. I picked up the call and I ended it with a huge sigh. "Hey, I'm sorry, I have to go," I apologized sincerely to the guy.

"No, it's fine. I know what's on my list," he winked and earned a glare from me. "I'm kidding..." he smiled. "I'm really sorry... I have to go. It was nice meeting you," I said to him. moonwritesfics

"Likewise," He replied with a nod. "Oh! And Thank you!" I said rather loudly as I was a few feet away from him already. He smiled and waved goodbye.

Timeskip

Three weeks had gone by. I couldn't get him out of my head. What frustrated me more is that I didn't even ask him for his name. So it was impossible for me to find him on the internet.

Sometimes, after work, or on the weekends, I'll purposely go to that same supermarket. Praying that I'll at least bump into him or something. And each time I saw someone tall with broad shoulders, I wanted it to be him but it never turned out the way I hoped for.

I always have to remind myself that I'm getting married and that he's getting married too. Well, for all I know, maybe he's already married since he said his mom had already found someone for him. I should really get a grip and move on. moonwritesfics

It was the weekend and I got out of bed as usual. I ate breakfast and then started with the house chores.

As I was in the midst of mopping the floor, my mom shouted my name from the staircase. "Y/N-ah!!" her voice was really loud. I frowned at her once we made eye contact.

"We're going out for dinner tonight," she grinned. "Okay," I replied with a straight face and continued with my chore. moonwritesfics

"I'm going to pick out your outfit, alright?" she said excitedly.

"Wait... What? Why?" I was confused at first but then it struck me. I'm going to meet my future husband tonight.

Timeskip (Dinner time)

We were seated at a table in a fancy restaurant with my future parents in law. They seemed like a very cute and lovely couple.

"You look very beautiful, dear," the mom complimented me and I could feel my cheeks burn up. "And we're sorry that our son is a bit late," the dad apologized but I just smiled.

"Is it ok for me to go out for a bit?" I asked shyly and they nodded. My mom shot me a look since she thought I was trying to escape. I placed my phone inside my handbag and left it on my chair to assure her that I'm not leaving.

She smiled with relief but I sighed in my mind, knowing well that my plan on running away from the situation tonight, was not going to happen. moonwritesfics

I was about to pull open the main door but I was unfortunately hit by it once someone pushed it from outside. I hissed in pain and held my forehead.

"I'm sorry..." the man apologized but his voice sounded very familiar. "You..." he said. I slowly opened my eyes but they instantly widened.

"Hi," he smiled sweetly. "Hi," I replied while still holding my forehead.

"I'm so sorry, let me see," he slowly removed my hand to take a look at my forehead. "It's just a bit red," he pointed out and gently blew on the red spot.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him. "My family has a dinner reservation," he answered. "Me too!" I told him without him even asking. moonwritesfics

"But why are you going outside," he questioned with furrowed eyebrows.

"Oh... I just wanted to get some air," I explained but he squinted his eyes at me, as if he knew I had something else in mind.

"So, married yet?" He asked with a chuckle and I shook my head as a reply. "You?" I asked and he shook his head as well, which resulted in both of us smiling at each other.

"Well actually..." he wanted to say something but was interrupted.

"Oh, Jin!" My future mother in law greeted the man in front of me. "Hey mom," he said to her. 'Mom?' I was surprised. moonwritesfics

"Ahh... I guess you already met your future sister in law," she smiled.

"What?!" Me and Jin exclaimed at the same time.
