《Knock, Knock》Twelve

My head bops lightly to the music playing in my ears as I keep my eyes on Mrs. Evans and Ms. Howard. The two were talking during class hours as if they couldn't wait til lunch. My eyes trail from Ms. Howard's, rosy lips to her neck and down to the light exposure of cleavage. I smirk and bite my lip. She was teasing me today. And honestly, I didn't mind.

I remove my earbuds from my ears and shove them into my jacket pocket, not really caring much to turn the song off. Grabbing my notebook, I stand and head towards Mrs. Evans desk. The students in the class continue with their work, not bothered to look up and be nosy. For once, they were maturing.

"Uh, Mrs. Evans, I'm done with my work" I state, allowing my presence to be known. From my peripheral, I can see Kathryn's head snap my way. I ignore her as I hand Mrs. Evans my notebook in order to check over the work. Slightly and a little stealthy I scoot over. My hand brushes Ms. Howard's leg. Immediately I can see her tense on side of me which causes me to smile. I liked teasing her.

Mrs. Evans hands me my notebook with a smile, "As always Casey, everything is done correctly. You do as you please for the rest of class."

"Whatever I please?" I question causing the woman to raise her brow in confusion. I chuckle and wave my hand in front of my face, "Ah sorry, I forgot teachers can't have sexual intercourse with students" I whisper. I glance at Ms. Howard, who I knew heard my comment because it was directed towards her. Luckily I wasn't loud enough for Mrs. Evans to hear. Kathryn eyes me cautiously as if asking 'what the hell I'm doing?'

I ignore her gaze and walk back to my seat. Ever since Friday, I've been aimlessly trying to see if Kathryn really wanted to kiss me. Or if it was just a spur of the moment that night. During school, she just eyes me awkwardly and in the apartments she tries her hardest to ignore my advances. I take my seat my eyes linger on Kathryn a tad bit longer.

Oddly enough, I wanted all of her attention. Scoffing at myself I plug my earphones back into my ears and put my head down. I needed to get over that night. But honestly, how could I? I had one of the most attractive women come so close to kissing me before her boyfriend had to ruin it. No matter how much I tried telling myself I didn't like Kathryn, the more the attraction grew.

It was starting to become a problem. I was spacing out in classes. And if I'd see her in the hallways, she would have all my attention. Pathetic, isn't it?

I sigh and close my eyes allowing the music to invade my thoughts.

Take me to the rooftop

I wanna see the world when I stop breathing

Turning blue

Tell me Love is Endless

Why am I listening to this? Without much care, I allow my body to relax. All worries flowing out my pores and away from my body as I fall asleep.

There's a harsh tap on my shoulder, jolting me awake. I jump out my seat, my eyes landing on Kathryn. I quickly pull out one of my earbuds in confusion. "It's lunch time." I glance around, noticing there were no students in the classroom. Mrs. Evans was nowhere to be seen either. I yawn into my fist and rub my eyes tiredly. Kathryn doesn't move.

My eyes land on her once again, "How long was I sleep?" I question with a yawn again.

"About 45 minutes. Your girlfriend tried waking you up but you wouldn't budge."

I furrow my brows. Girlfriend? Who the hell- oh. "You mean Jasmine? She's not my girlfriend" I spit dismissing anything else she had said. Kathryn shrugs her shoulders as if the information had no affect on her. I lean back into my seat and watch her silently. Something was definitely up with her. Maybe it was about Thomas. "Are you okay, Kathryn?" I question reaching for her hand.

"It's Ms. Howard" she retaliates rejecting my touch. My heart sinks as my eyes fall on my desk. Did I do something? Suddenly it all makes sense. Maybe I was just being delusional that Friday night. She was with Thomas after all and I was sleeping around. It's not like anything could happen between us. Not to mention, she's a teacher at my school.

I gather my things and shove them in my bag. I stand abruptly, coming face to face with Kathryn- Ms. Howard. I take a step back and apologize. She doesn't move instead she stands her ground and crosses her arms over her chest. I walk around her and out the classroom. What in the world is her problem?

"There you are Casey!" Edwin whines pulling me into a hug. Duke and Jasmine are with him. I hug him back with a wide grin as I try to forget about my encounter with Ms. Howard. "That reminds me Eric is throwing this huge Halloween party, please tell me you're coming" he begs.

I suddenly remember my agreement with Kathryn. Do I just break the agreement? "Of course, I always go with you" I chuckle. He finally releases me and I pull Jasmine into my side. I smile when I notice Duke's jealousy. I didn't need Kathryn Howard. I was doing fine without her for 3 years, there was no way she was going to ruin my senior year.

Getting home, I wasn't expecting to find a familiar face outside my apartment door. I smile almost immediately when her brown eyes land on me. "Casey!" she practically yells as she throws her arms around me. I shush her as I unlock my apartment. "I've missed you so much, I hate college" she groans plopping down onto my couch.

I roll my eyes and set my bag down on the table. I enter the kitchen grabbing two waters from the fridge. "Does daddy know you're here?" I question throwing her a bottle.

She cringes, "Hell no, you know he'll tear my head if he knows I'm not on campus." I let out a laugh and disappear into my room. I change out of my clothes to something more comfortable. When I enter the living room I spot her in the kitchen. "Yo, where the hell is the food? I'm, starving!"

I roll my eyes, "I need to go shopping. But I'm too lazy, let's get pizza later." Her brown eyes practically dazzle at the mention of pizza. "Why not now? I'm hungry lil' sis" she whines.

"My friends and I promised to hang out after school, they're still at school so mind as well kill two birds with one stone."

She pouts but nods her head, understanding my decision. She takes a seat next to me on the couch and we watch cartoons.

Hours pass when the sound of her growling stomach grabs my attention. I glance over to my big sister with a smile, "Okay, let's go. They should be out by now" I say causing her to cheer. Even though Cassandra was 3 years older than me, she tended to be more childish than I was. I grab my keys and slip on my shoes, heading out with my sister. I'm happy when I don't see Kathryn at her door.

After the incident from early, I don't think I wanted to see her for a while. "Why are you staring at their door?" Cassandra questions. I shake my head and lock my door. We both head down and towards my car.

The car ride is filled with pop music, up until we make it to the school. Edwin immediately notices my sister. The two practically squeal. She exits the car and brings the boy in for a hug as Duke and Jasmine look at the two quizzically. "Get in or I'm leaving" I hiss at the group. Edwin and Cassandra pull away with smiles and get in.

As promised with my sister, I head to the nearby pizzeria. Once we make it there, Cassandra and Edwin push me aside to make sure they get to sit next to each other. I sigh and shake my head, at this point is Edwin even my best friend? He never fights anyone to sit next to me. In fact we usually don't sit next to each other at lunch.

"Who is that?" Duke questions as he slides into the booth across from Edwin and Cass.

"This is Cassandra, my big sister" I answer. Jasmine sits next to Duke, making me pull up a chair from the nearest table. I take my seat and glare at Edwin. "You two look alike in a way" Jasmine says her eyes leaving Cass and landing on me. "No way, I'm much more good looking" I tease and wink at the brunette. She blushes of course, which Duke rolls his eyes at.

"Anyways, who are you two?" Cass questions finally giving someone else her attention, who wasn't Edwin. "Duke" Duke waves lazily.

"I'm Jasmine, but feel free to call me Jas."

Cassandra nods her head, her eyes landing on Duke then to me. "Duke as in... Diana's brother, Duke?" I nod my head causing her to laugh. It wasn't funny. I still couldn't understand why I was hanging out with Duke, didn't he hate my guts? Ignoring the thought, I realize the light conversation floating over the table. At least everyone was getting along.

I let out a breath and plant my chin in the palm of my hand. I zone out the conversation. Today was slowly falling into place. I was no longer upset about what happened between Kathryn and In fact, I'm glad she set the boundaries, makes it easier for me. Now I have less worries of falling for her. I blink from my stupor, however my eyes land on a familiar brunette and blonde outside the window. I growl as my eyes follow them.

Please don't come in here. Please don't come in here. Please--

I roll my eyes and exhale a puff of air as they enter the pizzeria. Followed behind them is an unfamiliar brunette and Kathryn's boyfriend. Fortunately they sit a nice distance from us. "Casey" I hear. I bring my eyes back to my table, noticing all eyes on me. "Can you get the pizza?" Edwin asks sweetly. You've got to be shitting me!

"What do you want?" I question. The table smiles and gives me their orders. I stand from my chair and walk over to the cashier. The old woman stares at me blankly without speaking. Of course it causes me to feel a bit out of place. I clear my throat grabbing her attention. She blinks and offers a small smile, "Oh sorry sweetie, I space out. What can I get you?"

Just as I open my mouth to place the order, my sister meets my side. "Actually scratch the pineapple pizza, I'll take what Edwin has." I roll my eyes, "Tell her yourself idiot" I spit.

However, Cass ignores me as her eyes land on something else more interesting. I continue with the order and pay. I turn to walk back to our table when Cassandra's voice grabs my attention. "Professor Evans is that you?"

"You have got to be fucking kidding" I hiss allowing my annoyance to be known. Before I can walk away, my sister grabs my arm and pulls me towards the table I had no intention of visiting. "Professor Evans, this is my sister Casey Kings. Casey this is my old Professor, the one I always told you about!"

I roll my eyes and let out a loud sigh. Cassandra smacks the back of my head, "Be more respectful, ass."

I offer Professor Evans a fake smile. "It's nice to meet you Professor Evans."

The brunette smiles and nods her head as she introduces herself then proceeding to introduce Mrs. Evans to Cassandra. She goes to introduce me to the woman but her wife stops her. "She's my student."

This day is ruined. My eyes land on Kathryn, unintentionally. She was eyeing me as well, when out eyes meet she quickly looks away and kisses Thomas' cheek. Before Professor Evans and Cassandra can catch up, I pull my sister away quickly. We take our seat and for the rest of the night I ignore and avoid any eye contact with the table behind us.

After dropping everyone else at home, I made it to my apartments. I park my car and notice the familiar beige car across the parking lot. I roll my eyes and walk inside the apartment building and towards the elevator. I catch the door before it closes only to feel annoyed when I see Kathryn standing in the corner.

The ride up to our floor is eerily quiet and honestly, I didn't care. It was her fault anyways.

"You gonna huff and puff the whole ride up?" I hear. I roll my eyes and ignore her comment. We were being petty, but like I said it's her fault. Finally we get to our floor. Before I can step out, she beats me to it, bumping her shoulder against mine. I clench my fists and ignore her in total. Even though she was pissing me off, I felt relieved she still spoke to me and made contact with me.

We made it to our own apartment unlocking it and walking in without wishing each other good night like we usually do. However I don't close my door. I stand in the doorway and wait to hear her door close. Once it does I smirk. "Goodnight Kathryn" I say loudly, knowing she'd hear me. I close the door behind me and hope that tomorrow we'd be over our little petty act.
