Did it feel right? Yes. Was it right? No, probably not.
"I'm sorry," I pulled away. My hair began to stick to my face, as the rain picked up, and drenched us.
"Sorry? For?" She ran her hand through her drenched hair.
"That was..." I trailed off.
"A mistake?" She pulled her jacket closer to her. Not like it was helping any. We both are already soaked.
"That's- no- I," I didn't know what to say. With a groan I throw my hands up in the air.
Grace shakes her head backing up, "it's fine. You know it's whatever. I'm freezing, and soaking wet. Not in the good way either, so I'll go."
"Stop."
"Why should I?" She asks still backing up.
"Because, I stopped for you. I didn't walk away."
Now this made her stop.
"Grace I forgive you."
She shakes her head, "I can't forgive myself for what I did to you. You're better off with Terra."
"And you? Who are you better off with?"
She shrugs, "who knows."
With that she turns and walks away. I didn't stop her, but instead watched as she walked across the parking lot. When I didn't see her anymore I walked back inside.
Being drenched from head to toe I didn't know what to do but go to the nurses office.
"Oh honey what happened?" Mrs. Good, the nurse, asked when I walked inside.
"I- uh- got locked outside. Had to walk around the whole building in order to get back in."
"Oh sweetheart, would you like for me to call your mom?"
I nod my head, "yes please."
She types something on her computer and then picks up the phone, "yes Mrs. Farewell, I have Brooklyn in my office." The nurse looks me up and down. "She seems to have come down with a cold." She winks at me.

"Okay well, your dad is on the way to pick you up," she says after putting down the phone.
I nod my head a begin shivering.
It took my dad ten minutes to get to school. He didn't come inside but instead I went out to his truck.
"Everything alright Brookie?"
I shrug leaning up against the door. The rain began to let up, I starred at the water droplets on the window.
"I don't want to talk about it."
He left it at that and reversed out of the parking lot. The ten minute drive home is silent. He only speaks when we come to a stop in our driveway.
"I'll talk to your mother about getting your car back." He looks at me still holding on to the steering wheel.
I nod my head, "are you going back to work?"
He looks down nodding his head, "I'll be back in an hour."
I open the door, "oh okay." Without another word I get out the car. Pulling my house key out of my bag and open the front door.
⛈⛈☔️☔️🌫🌫
It's 3 am when I'm awoken from sleep by a siren. I got to my window to see what all the ruckus is. Upon seeing that it's an ambulance in front of our house I quickly throw on some clothes and race down stairs.
Across the street Trace is standing on the lawn looking back at the house in tears. I go over to her.
"What's going on?"
She looks at me, "Grace. So much blood. I didn't know what to do."
"Grace what's wrong with Grace?" My heart begins to beat faster.
"I- I-"
She doesn't finish her sentence as they pull Grace out the house on a stretcher. I go over and take her hand.
"What's going on?"
She looks up at me. Her eyes are kind of glazed over unaware of her surroundings.

"Miss please back up." The EMT tell me.
I shake my head, "I'm riding with her."
"Miss-"
Trace comes over, "I have an 8 year old inside. Brooklyn do you mind staying with her? Please."
I looked back at Grace being loaded into the ambulance then back at Trace.
"Y-yes. I'll stay with her."
Trace takes my hands in hers, "thank you. Thank you."
I nod my head. She drops my hands and gets in the ambulance with Grace. I stay watching the ambulance retreat down the street. Running my hands through my hair one last time I walk inside and shut the door behind me.
Inside I wearily walk around. I hadn't a clue of what just happened. Going up stairs I take a peak inside Callie's room. The 6 year old is still fast asleep. Not a clue of what just went on. Walking fully inside I bent down next to her bed and flattened down her hair.
Leaving her alone I walk out and down the hall to Grace's room. Cautiously I pushed the door open. Flipping on the lights I walk in.
The send before me makes me clamp my hands over my mouth. Her sheets and blankets are deep crimson red with blood. A pool of it settling in the middle. Tears welled in my eyes. What happened?
Frustration fills me and I rip the sheets off her bed. Taking the sheets and blankets off her bed I go downstairs to the laundry room and throw everything in the washer.
💔💔😭😭🚫🚫
"Where is everyone?" Callie wakes up at 6 and comes to the kitchen.
I look up from my cup of coffee, "I'm taking you to school today. Would you like breakfast?"
She sits next to me on the kitchen island, "yes please. Pancakes!"
I nod my head and get up. Getting all the ingredients together I begin making her some pancakes.
"Did they take a trip without me?" She asks.
I shake my head, "they went off to take care of some business."
Callie shrugs, "I'm glad you're here! Can you braid my hair for school?"
I nod my head, "yah, eat up then we can go upstairs and get ready for school."
I finish up the pancakes and set them in front of her with some eggs. I pour myself another cup of coffee and drink it black, while she eats her breakfast.
Halfway though breakfast my phone buzzes next to me. Picking it up I see the call I've been waiting for. My mother. No doubt she's pissed. Instead of picking up I text her story is I got to school extra early for some extra credit classes. She buys it buying me sometime.
"Okay, let's get ready for school."
Callie nods her head disregarding the last of her pancakes, and goes up stairs. After picking up her plate and placing the dirty dishes in the dishwasher I join her upstairs.
I got Callie dressed and ready for school and made sure she had everything that was needed, then walked down with her to the bus stop. I didn't leave until the bus came.
On my way back to Grace's I saw Tyler ride past me on his motorcycle. Of course he was waiting outside when I got back.
"No ones answering the door."
I nod my head, "Yah no ones here." I walk past him and open the door.
"Why why not? Where's Grace?"
"At the hospital. An ambulance picked her up at three am."
"What?!"
I nod my head and he follows me to the kitchen.
"Do you know what happened?"
I shake my head, "Trace asked for me to stay with Callie. I didn't get any extra details."
"You've been up since then?"
I nod my head.
"Come on, We're going to the hospital."
