onyx

The room was bright.

I winced slightly when I woke up, the light immediately blinded me. Blinking twice, I tried to sit up but my arms and legs were strapped to the table I laid on.

"Oh you're up," A voice called out to me.

The face of the man from earlier came into sight. A glare fell on my face and he laughed amusedly before running a hand over my face.

"Who the hell are you?" I growled out.

"Me? You can call me Master Dexter for the time being," he grinned.

I scoffed at that and tried to tug at the straps holding me down.

"That won't work," he said in a singsong voice watching me.

"What do you want with me?" I asked.

He shook his head. "Boy, I already got what I want; revenge for my dear brother. You need to be more worried about what he wants?"

As if on cue, the door opened revealing another man. He seemed to be older than Dexter.

"This is the boy?" He scoffed. "You couldn't have gotten a better one? Like the girl?"

Dexter rolled his eyes. "Be grateful, it would've been harder to snatch her. He has potential," he patted my face. "Only problem is he can't shift."

The man chuckled darkly. "Problem? That's hardly a problem. Doctor!"

The door opened revealing a lady. She was older, wrinkles covered her body, and her hair was practically nonexistent. I shivered as she ran her fingers over my body before pulling a syringe out if her pocket.

"This my hurt...a lot," she said in a raspy voice.

Before I could even try to say anything, she injected me with something and my body instantly began to feel as if it was on fire. My vision became hazy and my bones began to break.

Screams escaped from my mouth and filled in the room but nobody seemed to care. Dexter laughed as the other man grinned.

"He'll do just fine," the mystery man said and that was the last thing I heard before everything went dark.

...

"He passed out?"

"Yeah," Gaius sighed as he spoke to what I assumer to be Gray over the phone. "Still hasn't woke up but we're on our way back."

I blinked before taking in my surroundings. I was laying in the back of the car with my head on Gaius' lap. Shifting slightly, I tried to sit up and Gaius quickly realized I was no longer asleep.

"I'll call you back," He told Gray before hanging up.

Gaius helped me into a sitting position before raising a hand to my cheek and looking at me worriedly. "Are you okay?"

I slowly nodded but in reality, I was really sure. What was that memory? Just who was the man with Dexter? Who was that woman and what did she inject me with?

It seemed like every question we answered, another one popped up and I was tired of it.

Gaius frowned, seeming to not believe me. He opened his mouth to say something, but the sound of a knock on the window caught both of our attention. Gaius opened the roor wnd standing in front of it was the woman from earlier; my mother.

Her eyes widened when she realized I was awake. Her hand slowly reached out to towards me before she stopped and pulled back.

"Are you sure you can't stay?" Her voice was broken and she stared at me pleadingly.

"We can't," Councilman Steele said, coming out of seemingly nowhere.

She sighs before nodding her head in resignation. She offered my a small smile and crossed her hands.

"I hope you'll come and visit again," her voice cracked.

I couldn't just leave like this.

Slowly, I moved towards her and opened my arms for a hug which she quickly returned. I could feel my shirt becoming wet as she cried against me.

"I'll try," I told her honestly.

I wanted to come back and visit again. I wanted to get to know and remember the place I grew up.

When we pulled back, the councilman let out a cough and Mom smiled softly before moving back.

"Be safe," she told us.

She grinned towards Gaius and he returned the gesture before closing the door and strapping his seatbelt in. I mirrored his actions and the councilman soon began to drive.

"So what happens now?" Gaius asked the councilman.

Councilman Steele hummed in thought. "We'll go back, you'll talk to Gray and the others while I talk to the other councilors. We'll probably search for Dexter and question him."

The two continued to talk but I ignored their conversations as I thought about my parents. Mom seemed like she cared but Dad practically showed no emotion. The two of us never really talked while he was here.

Part of me wondered what all they had done over the years but the other part of me was scared to know.

"What the hell," Councilman Steele growled as we passed the Solar Moon border.

I was about to ask what had happened but the smell of other wolves surrounded us. The councilman stopped the car and the owners of the scents quickly showed themselves. Red eyes were the common denominator along the group.

"Onyx, stay in the car," Gaius commanded.

The three of us stared at the wolves for a minute before one lunged at the car. In a flash, the councilman was out the car and shifted revealing a huge wolf. His loud growl rumbled through the air as he began to attack the rogues. Some of them ignored the councilman and tried to move towards the back where Gaius and I were. Gaius growled out lowly in warning. The wolves didn't take the hint and Gaius leapt out the car and began to fight off the other wolves.

I wanted to help- I wanted to shift and help them fight, but my wolf refused to come forward no matter how hard I tried.

One by one, the rogue's numbers began to lower until none were left. Councilman Steele shifted and made his way back to the car. Gaius moved to follow him, but before he could do so, more rogues emerged and surrounded him.

How did we not notice them?

Why don't they have scents?

Councilman Steele moved to help him, but Gaius' growl made him stop in his tracks. His eyes cloud over as the two stare at each other.

"What are you doing?!" I called out to him and opened the door before climbing out.

I tried to move towards Gaius, but my movements were still slightly slower than normal. Before I could even make it close to where the rogues were, the councilman gripped me and yanked me back into the car. He locked the doors and started up the car before driving off.

"Stop!" I yelled at him, but it was as if my words were deaf to his ears.

Tears streamed down my face. "Stop," I tried again.

He didn't reply so I looked out the window as Gaius fought rogue after rogue. They outnumbered him. Soon they managed to get him down and they pounced on him.

"No, Gaius!" I yelled just as Dexter came into view with the wrinkly lady behind him, dragging Gaius away.
