《desire | lucas sinclair》chapter 2

i woke up this morning to the sun beaming through my sheer curtains. i sit up and gently rub my eyes, then i grab my phone and see a text message from lucas.
morning :)
morning!
did you sleep good?
yeah i slept fine, wby?
i slept pretty good too,
i'm going to get ready now so
see you soon :)
see ya
i put my phone down and get out of bed, i go to my bathroom to get ready for school. i have a biology test today and if i'm being honest, i didn't study at all. but it's whatever, i have an a in the class anyway.
i decided to wear a pair of jeans and a tight-fitted shirt. i wore vans with it. i brushed my teeth and hair, i decided to wear my hair down today. then i went downstairs to eat breakfast, i ate a bowl of cereal.
once i'm ready, i grab my bag and my phone, then i head out of the door and make my way to school.
once i made it to school i went to my locker to grab my books. then ashley and stephanie were at my locker.
"hey." they both say.
"hi" i reply.
"um why were you talking to those nerds yesterday?" stephanie asks.
"steph!" ashley says, lightly hitting her arm. "don't say that!"
"what? it's who they are." she replies.
"who are you talking about?" i ask.
"those nerds, lucas's friends." stephanie says.
"oh them? i was just talking to them, and they're not nerds." i reply.
"um y/n... they are, aren't they in that weird hellfire club cult?" she says.
"stephanie, it's not a cult. it's literally just a group of people who play a game, it's called dungeons and dragons." i say.
"how do you know so much about it? are you in it?" she asks in a disgusted voice.

"no, i just know about it." i reply.
"okay... anyway did you study for the biology test?" ashley asks.
"nope. i'll just pray to god that i don't fail." i say.
ashley laughs. "yeah, me too."
lucas then comes to my locker, stephanie and ashley walk away.
"you ready for the test?" he asks.
"definitely not. but i don't even care anymore. school is boring." i reply.
"true, well c'mon, we're going to be late." he starts to walk to class and i follow him. fortunately we made it to class right when the bell rang, so we weren't late.
"okay class, everyone get to your seats so we can start our test." says mrs bailey, my biology teacher. "since this is worth half of your grade..."
"HALF?" one of my classmates says.
"yes, half." mrs bailey answers. "as i was saying, you guys can use your notes on this test, most of you will need the help."
"thank you mrs bailey!" one of my classmates says.
"you're welcome class, now get started once i hand you your test."
i get my test and start it, i finished pretty quickly, it was 50 questions and luckily, they were all multiple choice.
it's time for lunch, i walk to my locker to put away my books and then i went to the cafeteria with lucas. we both get our trays and begin to walk to a table until we're stopped by jason.
"hey y/n, hey sinclair, you two should sit with me." he says.
"uh no thanks... i was planning on sitting with my friends today." lucas says.
"oh? those freaks?" jason says.
"shut it jason. they're not freaks." i snap.
"woah calm down princess... well you two have fun sitting with a bunch of losers." jason says, walking away.

"lucas?" i say.
"what's up?" he asks.
"i don't know if i should sit with you." i say.
"why not?" he asks.
"i don't think your friends like me." i explain.
"they like you!" he says.
"are you sure? mike hates me for sure. i've never spoken to max or jane... dustin basically just ignores me, the only one that actually likes me is will." i say.
"well, why don't you just sit by will? i can introduce you to everyone else." he says.
"i don't know..." i start.
"oh c'mon, it'll be fine." he says.
"okay." i reply.
we walk to the table, everyone looks at me funny, besides will.
"hey y/n!" will says.
"hi will. hey guys." i say.
"this is y/n." lucas says.
"we know." jane says.
"she's gonna sit with us." lucas explains.
"okay?" max says.
i sit down next to lucas, also in front of will.
"how have you been?" will asks me.
"i've been good! have you had biology yet?" i ask.
"yeah, the test was pretty easy, especially since mrs bailey let us use notes." he says.
"yeah."
will and y/n start to talk about school and a few other things, jane looks at me.
"um lucas? why is y/n y/l/n sitting with us?" she asks.
"because she's my friend?" i say.
"yeah right. you totally like her." dustin says.
"i do not! and can you be quiet she's literally right there." i say.
dustin laughs.
"yeah, why is y/n sitting here? she doesn't want to sit with her pretty little popular friends? i'm surprised she even wanted to be near us freaks." mike says.
"mike can you stop? y/n isn't like all of those other snobby girls. she likes you guys." i say.
"yeah right. she probably just feels sorry for us. no one ever talks to us. the only popular people who even acknowledge us is you." mike says.
"um. if you guys want me to leave i'll just go." y/n says. she must've heard mike. "i'm sorry for bothering you."
"no y/n it's fine! you can sit here." i say.
"no, i'll just go sit by ashley and the girls. it's obvious the only people that want me here is you and will." she says sadly.
she then walks to her friends with her tray.
"what is wrong with you guys?" i say. "y/n actually liked you guys and she wants to be your friend. but all of you are treating her like shit!"
"whatever. she probably is just talking to us because of you." max says.
"she's not. she likes you guys. the only person that is treating her nicely is will!" i say.
they all just ignore me.
"whatever, i'm leaving." i say, getting up.
"lucas wait!" dustin says.
i continue walking, i go over to the trash can and throw away my food. i see y/n.
"hey y/n." i say.
"hey." she replies.
"i'm sorry about them." i start.
"no, lucas it's okay, really. i shouldn't have went over to them in the first place. i knew that was going to happen." she says.
i sigh. "it's my fault, i shouldn't have made you go over there."
"lucas." she says, grabbing my hand. "it's okay."
i felt a strange feeling in my stomach when she grabbed my hand. was it... butterflies?
"can we go to class now?" she asks.
"yeah, let's go." i reply.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
