I can only watch as my mate gets into the car. I feel my heartache surge as memories flooded my mind. The day at the beach when she was bathed in the sunglow, her beautiful smile that made my heart soar, our first true kiss. I know that I will never experience anything with her anymore but I still have memories of her that I will cherish. The short time I had with her showed me something I had never experienced and I will never experience again. If I could turn back time and stop this all from happening I would but I am powerless. What could I do? Indignantly plaster myself to the car? I resign myself to the fact that my mate was leaving. My Roxie would be mine no more. I'd royally fucked up.

Whispering my goodbye, the car's engine starts and I watch as it slowly rolls forward and I see brunette hair gently blowing in the breeze. My heart skips a beat.

What is she doing?

Did she forget something?

Her bags lay at her feet as the car continues down the way. Before I could think my feet take off, running towards her. She meets me halfway and leaps into my arms. I breath in her scent and squeeze tighter, making sure it is not an illusion. She was really in my arms.

"What happened to going back to your pack?" I mumble, barely able to comprehend the scene.

"This is my pack. I want to make things work. But don't misunderstand, you still have to earn back my trust." Her voice mutters as tear well up in her beautiful brown eyes.

"I'll take what I can get. I will do anything in my power to make it up to you. You are my one and only."

"And you are mine."

That night I lay in bed, Hunter hadn't let go of me since I decided to stay. Even now, Hunter's arm was draped over me, holding my close to him and close to his heart. I couldn't believe how much I missed this. His scent and his warmth made me feel safe once more. We weren't a hundred percent healed but we were on the right path.

As I drifted off to sleep I felt secure for the first time in what felt like forever. But the feeling was short lived.

In my dream I was standing in the pack territory but it was different. The houses, the trees, it was just empty. Everything around me was swallowed by a thick fog. Then I see her. She's walks from the fog but her paws don't touch the ground. A wolf with charred skin stood before me. The wolf's snout was missing lips as if in a permanent snarl and few burnt clumps of reddish- brown fur sticks out in sparse patches. There was a look of pure anger in the wolf's green eyes. I immediately recognize her and I try to shift, to be on an even playing field, but nothing. I can't shift or even move. My legs are like lead, unmoving. The scent of smoke and burnt flesh burnt and stung my nose and lungs.

"What do you want. I've won, leave me be." I growl.

"You have not won, dispite what you think. With my dying breath I cursed you, the pack, and your first born. You will watch as everything crashes around you. EVERYTHING WILL BE TAKEN FROM YOU LIKE IT WAS TAKEN FROM ME!" Her growl roars through the clearing and she lunges at my throat, ripping it.

I jolt up, clutching my throat as I fought for breath Hunter's eyes widen with shock as he is jolted out of sleep by me. Tears rolled down my cheeks and Hunter spring up and pats my back.

I wheeze as Hunter holds me. "What happened?"

"I-I saw her. I saw Amber. She was all burnt up and she cursed me, the pack and...." I trail off.

"You're fine. It's just a nightmare. I will NEVER let anything happen to you ever again. You have my word." He comforts me.

"Yes, a nightmare." I nod my head but it seemed too real.

Would I really be cursed? Hunter pulls me down and kisses my forehead.

The next morning Hunter and I eat breakfast. I'm lost in thought as the dream plays over and over in my mind, I don't even notice Hunter slid something towards me till he touches my my hand and pulls me back into reality. "This is for you." He holds the box out and opens it to reveal a rose gold ring with a heart and in the heart was a diamond. "A promise ring. With it I promise my heart to forever be yours and yours alone and I will always protect you, no matter what."

"It beautiful."

"Not as beautiful as you are." Hunter smirked.

"You did not just use the corniest line in the book, did you?" I roll my eyes with a chuckle and felt my heart melt.

I could see that he is really trying to make things work and I slid off of the stool and wrap my arms around him.

"You didn't need to get me a ring to make that promise to me. The only ring I need is this." I say as I gently grasp both of his wrists and pull them around me. "Your arms are my ring and your kiss is the key to my heart. As long as I'm like this I know I'm protected."

Our lips meet briefly for the first time in what felt like forever and I immediately feel like I'm about to melt into the floor as the heat threatens to overtake me. You could feel the passion in the air and he quickly scurries away.

"What's wrong?" I sigh.

"If we don't stop I will not be able to control myself. Things should be taken slow."

"I'm not asking you to control yourself." I mutter, pressing myself against him as I give him a longing glance.

Not missing a beat he flashes me a devilish smile as he lifts my into his arms and carries me bridle style to his room.
