《Mated to a Bad Boy》Chapter 17: Wrong

I sit on Hunter's bed as someone comes in with a few of my things. Some clothes and some of my personal items. One is the picture of my brother and I. I wonder if he's alright after that incident with Vanessa? Did they make up? Despite how much I despise her, she is my brother's mate and I would hate to see him suffer without her.

"Do you have any idea who is doing this?" I mumble. I wish it would end.

"No, we don't know who it is yet but you were right about it being someone who I was with. Aiden has been trying to get to the bottom of it."

"You still can't narrow it down, just how many girls were you with?" I brace myself for his response.

"I'd....... rather not say." His voice shows reluctance.

"That many huh?" I mutter, ignoring the tightening in my heart.

"Roxie, please let it go. I had a wild past, hoping for one girl to the next but that's just it. It's the past. All I want now is you."

"About Autumn, do you believe in my judgement?"

"We've been over this before, she would never hurt anyone, let alone kill them. She may be rude and snobbish but she is hemophobia. She passes out at the tiniest sight of blood. Though I do agree with you about her jealousy and resentment towards you, I don't think she would take it that far." With that I drop it, not wanting to push it any further.

That night I curl up in his arms as we both drift off to sleep while the crickets sing their songs to the moon. My eyes barely close when a gripping pain takes hold of my heart, nearly knocking the air out of me. Me and Hunter both bolt up. I notice him clutching his chest and I know he feels it to. Something has happened, someone else has been killed.

Hunter rushes out of bed and gets dressed quickly. I follow suit and we both run to where people have already started to gather.

"What happened?" Hunter questions a young man.

"My mate and I were just getting ready for bed when we heard a scream. By the time we got here the culprit had fled out the front door. All we saw was long brunette hair."

Hunter says nothing but nods and walks in the door and as I walk in behind him I can sense the wicked stares on me but soon the smell of blood distracts me from it. Hastily scribbled on to the wall in blood was the word "Wrong". As I look at the victim it dawns on me, it's Autumn. She was stabbed multiple times but the worst injury that likely ended it all was her throat being slit. This is getting out of hand, whoever the culprit is, they are escalating.

"Caleb, Jasper, take Roxie back to the house. Don't leave until I get back. I'm going to try tracking while the trail is undisturbed and fresh. Aiden, you come with me." Hunter shifts and takes off as Jasper and Caleb take me back to the house.

"You guys don't happen to believe that it's me doing this do you? I mean you witnessed the rock incident."

"Of course not Luna." They say in unison with synchronized bows. I can't tell if they really believe me you not.

I'm stuck frantically pacing the living room. If Hunter catches this person I can prove my innocence, but if not then the pack will continue to implicate me. I need to show my pack that I am innocent of any wrongdoing no matter the cost. The living room door opens and Hunter is standing there, looking annoyed.

"I lost the scent at the river. This is really beginning to piss me off!" Hunter slams his fist against the door frame.

"Use me." I announce and everyone turns to me with puzzlement. " This person wants to get to me so bad, why not let them? I can even leave a trail that you can follow and I can us a voice recorder to get a confession."

"NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT!" Hunter shouts.

"Hunter, you know as well as I do that I can lure them out."

"I don't care, I am not putting you in danger!" Everyone seems nervous as Hunter begins to lose his temper but I remain adamant.

"So you would sacrifice more of your pack? Last time I checked it's the job of the Alpha and his Luna to protect the pack, no matter the risks."

"I know what I'm doing."

"And so do I. I'm willing to risk my life for this pack. I signed up for this when we sealed the bond. On that night I officially became your Luna and this pack became mine. It is my job to protect it from threats, both inside and out."

"I'm not letting you put yourself at risk and that....is.....final. I can handle it on my own, now let it go." Hunter pushes past me and heads for the office. Looks like he won't let me no matter what I saw but what he doesn't know won't hurt him. How can I be the Luna of this pack if I can't deal with this matter myself. Whether or not Hunter backs me up, I need to do this for myself.
