《Mated to a Bad Boy》Chapter 6: Trickster

My eyes flutter open to a blurry room and my head is killing me, what the hell happened? The last thing I remember was feeling sick on the stage. When my vision finally comes back I notice where I am. I'm in a hospital room. Looking around I see that I'm all alone. Through the window I notice the sun just beginning to rise over the horizon. How long was I out? Just then a woman with blonde hair walks in.

"Oh, you're finally awake. I'm Jessica, the pack's doctor." She says with a hospitable smile.

"What on Earth happened to me?"

"Someone tried to poison you. You were out for three days." She says and my jaw drops in shock.

"THREE DAYS! I haven't even been here for a week and someone is already trying to eliminate me?!" I shout. "I'm not even competition. He doesn't love me."

"Are you sure about that? After all you are his mate so you hold the title."

"Mate or not I'm still nothing to him." I sigh as I rest my chin in my hand.

Jessica rolls her eyes and mumbles. "If only you knew. Anyways since you're awake and your vital signs are doing good you may leave when you're ready but I recommend you wait till lunch time."

After lunch I walk back to the house but I noticed a couple wolves following me at a distance. I pretend to not notice and slightly pick up my pace till I make it back into the house. Once inside I see Hunter cooking. Hunter turns to me and I brace myself for his words.

"Shouldn't you still be in the hospital?" I was expecting a different reaction.

"No, Jessica said I could leave. I ended up rushing back because I was being followed." I peek outside the window and they are still there.

"Those are your guards, Caleb and Jasper, they are to remain close to you and keep you under surveillance until the person who poisoned you is apprehended."

"Well you might as well dismiss them, I think it's obvious who poisoned me." I roll my eyes.

"Who?"

"Your red-headed slut. It's obvious she doesn't like me since....." I can't even bring myself to call us mates.

"Autumn would never do that."

"Really, because right now I'm the only thing standing between her and being Luna." I cross my arms.

"I don't care, I know she would never do anything like that. You are only accusing her out of spite since you caught me and her." His voice comes out as a growl and his eyes go black but I stand my ground.

"Wow, her pussy must be really good since you would come to her defense instead of your mate's." I growl back before turning around and heading for the stairs but my nose twitches at the smell of something burning. "Oh, by the way, your lunch is burning."

How can he defend her like that? Like it or not, I'm his mate. Not her. How can he ignore the obvious? I let myself fall onto the bed in a huff.

The next day I walk downstairs to the kitchen. There is a note on the refrigerator door addressed to me.

"I have left to run errands, do not leave the house till I get back."

Errands my ass. He left to go see her. Hell, I bet the two of them are cohorts. But he is not here so.......he wouldn't know that I left. I Wander over to the window and peek through the blinds. Those two wolves are still there. They must have been up all night guarding me which means that they shouldn't be that alert. I may be able to sneak past them. The back door is locked and I don't have a key. I have no choice I would have to use the front door.

Opening the front door the two wolves greet me, I'll have no choice but to try and trick them. Thinking on my feet I come up with an excuse. "I saw someone outside my window watching me. When they saw that I noticed them they took off in that direction."

I watch as the two look at each other and walk over to the other side of the house to investigate then with a devious grin I quickly strip and shift. They fell for it easier than expected.

I run through the forest, enjoying the breeze on my fur as it stirs up my wolf. I hate being cooped up inside, feeling the earth under my paws is when I'm at my happiest. Eventually I stumble across a clearing. Sniffing around I catch the scent of a hare. My wolf's tail wags and anticipation as I sink low to the ground stalk up to it. Like a bolt of brown lightning the hare speeds out of the bush and I take up the chase. The hare zigs and zags through the field, it's speedy legs carrying it at about a half a length away. My lungs burn and my legs begin to ache as the hare pulls further ahead. He is now a full length away but I can still hear it's frantic little heartbeat pounding in my ears. It's beating so fast it sounds more like a hum than a heartbeat. Then the hare makes a sudden turn and as I turn my body to follow my paws lose there traction and I slide.

I stay lying on the ground trying to catch my breath, my heart sounding like a train. Then I look to the other corner of the field where the hare had ran to and I see the big brown wolf as well as a black wolf with tufts of brown and silver through it coat. I thought I had ran far enough away that no one would find me. They begin to approach and I lay my ears back. The black wolf then snarls, bearing his teeth at me.
