《Her House, My Rules》Chapter 70

I kept telling myself over and over again. This is not right. I don't know what came over me but my actions were careless and selfish. I wanted to please my baby, hell yes but, Jack was fighting for dear life, in the other room. The hallucinations were filling my head up with a collection of responsibilities and regrets.
What was I doing? Was I out of my mind?
Maybe, I was. I just couldn't stop my emotions from spreading out. I wanted to feel free, feel wanted by the woman of my dreams, but I was doing it at the wrong time. It was too late for me to take care of my needs or hers. Sex wasn't important but I wanted to make love to her at that moment due to the fact that she wasn't present for a couple of days. Her skin felt warm against mine.
I took a deep breath and terminated my movements.
"Why did you stop?" She felt embarrassed as she tried to fix herself, uncomfortably. "What's wrong with you?" Her tone revealed how annoyed she was. "Why would you do this to me?"
"I'm sorry." I apologized as I tried to give her a hug. "Come here."
"No," She rejected me. "Just leave me alone."
"Hazel, please..." I hugged her from behind as I tried to calm her down. "I love you and I'll do anything for you and you know that." Tears fell down her face as she tried to wipe them away, quickly. "Baby... You're my star, I love making you feel good and that's the truth." I turned her body towards me as I kissed her forehead, gently. "Please, understand me. This is not right, Jack is fighting for his life. We have to think about him first."
"I understand." Her voice was wet with tears. "You're right."
"I promise that I'll come back to you." I tried to console her. "Don't lose hope, okay my love."
"It doesn't matter anymore." She reminded me. "As soon as you leave the human world, my memories, my body, my heart will no longer be yours. You said it yourself, I'll belong to someone else. I don't want you to lie to me. I just want you to be honest."
"I am being honest with you, babe..." I declared, ignoring the fact that it was impossible to come back to a ghost. She was going to grow old, have her own family, and probably die after a few years. On the other hand, I'm going to be young and strong. I was wrong for not telling her the whole truth but it really didn't matter.
"Someone will love you, Hawk..." She paused. "But, that person isn't me."
"What are you saying?" I asked, desperately. Confused. "Why are you being so negative?"
"I'm not." She replied, confidently. "I'm trying to save Jack's life." She caressed my face, gently as she continued. "Thank you for not giving up on me, for loving me despite all of my flaws and my insecurities."

"Hazel..." Tears fell upon my face, unexpectedly as I tried to control them but it was impossible. I just couldn't stop crying. The pain was real. I felt like I was leading myself into a deep black hole. I felt weak, unresponsive. "Please, don't say that," I begged her sweet words to stop stabbing my heart.
"I guess this is goodbye..." Her broken voice whispered in my right ear as she tried to walk away. "Goodbye, Hawk Wale."
My heart stopped.
My body was beseeching my feet to start moving but I felt numb to the point that I felt betrayed by my own mind. Please come back, Hazel. My inner voice screamed for her presence. I wanted to let her know that she was the best thing that ever happened to me, that she stole my heart the first time my eyes laid on her beautiful face.
Hazel, you're the first girl that captured my soul. From the bottom of my heart, I fell in love with you for who you truly are inside.
And that's real love.
"Where's your brother?" Evana stated behind me as she interfered with my thoughts. "Jack?"
"He's in the room," I replied, dryly. "We should go now," I commanded, without hesitation. "I don't want my feelings for Hazel to manifest in my decisions." I expressed myself. "We should leave."
"Are you sure?" She asked, sincerely. "Is this what you want?"
"I'm doing what's best for everyone," I uttered. "Hazel doesn't care about the situation. I understand where she's coming from but at the same time, she has to put her pride aside and save Jack's life. I love her but I have to sacrifice my feelings for her. I have to save my brother's life." I revealed. "Hazel will always be the love of my life."
"Where is she?"
"I don't know..." I said, vaguely. "She's probably in the other room."
"You should talk to her," Evana suggested. "She's in pain right now. She loves you."
"I love her, too." I squeezed my teeth altogether. I could feel the pain crawling under my skin, savagely. "I don't know what else to do. I want to be with her for the rest of my life." I contemplated her promise ring between my fingers as I swallowed my saliva, nervously." She gave me the ring back." I sighed, sadly. "I wanted to have my own family. I wanted her to wake up next to me every morning and night. I wanted her to be by my side until death navigates through our skins."
"If you love her, let her go." She said, directly. Without piety.
"I want to but..." Nonstop tears burned my face, regretfully. "I can't..."
"Do you want me to speak to her?" She demanded, nicely. "Maybe I can change her mind."
"Impossible."
"I can try." She insisted. "Let me try."
"Fine but," I agreed. "She won't listen to you."

"Let me be the judge of that." She challenged my words. "After you."
"Don't say I didn't warn you." As I headed to the guest room, Evana followed my footsteps.
There she was, laying on the bed, a pillow on top of her head. Was she sleeping? No. I wish she was. Hazel wasn't the type to sleep through the pain. I knew her too well.
Her silence meant a lot of things.
"Hazel?" Her name tasted sour in my mouth. "Evana wants to talk to you."
"Go away!" She yelled as she threw the pillow on her head at me and replaced it with another one. "Leave me alone!"
"Can we talk, sweetheart?" Evana asked, gently. "You and I need to have a serious conversation."
"Don't call me 'sweetheart'." She yelled as she glanced at her, disgustingly. "I hate you. You're the reason why that Hawk is leaving me now. You came out of nowhere. Out of nowhere! Trying to rule everyone." She yelled at her. "Well, This isn't nineteen forty-three or Lionland. This is Reality. Just leave me alone and get the fuck out."
"With all due respect, young lady." She stated. "This isn't your house."
"Hawk?" She tried to include me. "Aren't you going to defend me?"
O' Lord. Please don't include me in this. I hate drama.
"Hazel, you're overreacting." I sat on the edge of the bed. "She just wants to talk to you and Evana, this is her house now. I respect that you're part of the family but this is my wife and I don't tolerate disrespect."
"I understand, Hawk." Evana apologized. "I didn't mean to talk to her like this but she really crossed her lines."
"What the hell do you want from us?" Hazel interrupted. "Why are you stealing Hawk away from me?"
"Child." Evana chuckled. "Hawk made his own decision. I didn't force him to leave with me. He's doing the right thing. He wants to save his brother's life."
"Where were you when he needed a mother? An aunt to guide him through his pain?" Her questions perpetuated my mind, negatively. I wanted her to stop talking. My mother never loved me. I didn't want her to remind me of this negative vibe anymore. "Where were you, miss popular? Were you in Lionland sucking Lions' dicks?" Hazel went too far. "I was there for him. You want to introduce yourself after years. What the hell do you think you're doing?"
"Hazel..." I sighed, embarrassed. "To be honest, I don't recognize you anymore."
"Really?" Hazel chuckled, sarcastically. "Do you have to leave with her?"
"Hawk is the only one who has power. Therefore, he's the only one who can save us from dying."
"Excuse me, lady but nobody's talking to you." Her words were harsh and malignant. "Now, can you please get the fuck out? Hawk is not going anywhere."
"Hawk, I'm going to check up on Jack for the trip." Evana ignored Hazel. "Please, get ready. We don't have much time." She closed the door after her.
"Hazel, my love." I started. "I understand your pain but Jack is dying."
"Why do you believe in this prophecy anyway?" She made a sound with her tongue. "You promised me that you were going to stay by my side no matter what. You promised!"
"You broke a lot of promises too, Hazel." I reminded her. "I'm breaking this promise to save someone's life."
"What about me?" She begged. "Take me with you."
"I can't." I took a deep breath as I tried to collect my words, nicely. "I have to go now." I faced myself to the door as she ran after me and hugged me from behind. "Hazel, don't do this..." I pleaded as I tried to stop this fire inside my veins. I felt guilty. I didn't want to give in. I was trying my best not to.
I love this girl so much. I am so in love that I can't even stick to my decision.
"Take me with you..." Her broken voice cried out. "Please... I'll do anything..."
"You'll be fine..." I tried to push her hands away from me, slowly but she didn't want to let go. "Please, let go..."
"I love you, Hawk..." She complicated things. "Please, I love you so much..."
"I love you, Waffle but I can't stay."
"Then take me with you..." She insisted. "Take me with you... Hawk..." I didn't know what else to do. She was crying and her tears were stained on my shirt like glue. I felt the warmness of her pain floating on my skin. "I love you and I don't want to lose you. I don't want anybody else but you. I only want you in my life. I want you to be my husband, I want to have your kids." She turned my body towards her as she caressed my cheeks, gently. "Look at me... Do you love me?"
I stroked my thumb in the center of her throat as she craved for my lips. "If you want me... Let me go..."
"I'm not giving up on you." Her words calculated the tension of my pain. "Over my dead body."
"Hawk! Hawk!" Evana screamed as she interrupted us. "Come now! We have to save Jack's life." She grabbed my hand as we headed to the master bedroom. "Is it this room?"
"Yes," I tried opening the door but it was locked. "What the hell?"
"What's happening?"
"It's locked." My eyes dilated. "The door is locked."
Shocked.
My body trembled by the news.
"Jack! Jack! Can you hear me?" I yelled through the door.
Jack had the key and the way this door was made, it was impossible to use a knife to open it.
Fuck me!
What the hell just happened?
Jack? Are you alive in there? Please say something, brother.
The clock is ticking....
