《Her House, My Rules》Chapter 68

If it's going to get violent tonight, tell me you're going to be alright. I don't want to leave you behind my love but, it's an eye for an eye. It's a life for a life. The sun will burn your precious skin on the other side, the shadow of our love will haunt me forever. Hazel, you're my Fiancé and you'll always be the love of my life.

I want you to know that I didn't choose this life. I never meant for all of this to happen in one night. I wanted us to end on good notes. I wanted to keep fighting for your immature love but Destiny is messing me over and the only choice I have left is to save Jack Walter. He's my brother, my best friend and I love him. I don't want him to suffer or die because of our mother's mistakes. I want him to have a normal life.

Forgive me, my dear. Forgive me, I beg of you. Please, don't hate me. Please understand that I have to make this decision.

When I leave the human world, I'll no longer be the man that you fell in love with. Your memories will be erased, your love will be expired and you're going to marry a man and forget all about me soon... But on the other hand, I'll never be able to forget you. I'll never chase those hurtful memories away from my mind. I'll never have that opportunity to hold you in my arms and smell your favorite perfume.

Hazel, you'll belong to somebody else.

Would I be mad and jealous, knowing that someone else is making love to you?

Hell yes, but at least, I'll know that you're happy and I didn't break your heart by leaving you, alone, in the dark.

I'll forever be alone but deep down, my love for you will never fade away.

I love you, Hazel Brown and you were the first girl that made me feel like this, despite your immature actions.

--------------

My brother, my best friend,

We had so many memories together. I remember the day that you ran over your girlfriend's dog and you blamed it all on me. Just to tell me right after that she broke up with you for not checking up on her. I remember back in Middle School, we used to chase white little birds in my father's garden.

I got this one, Hawk. This one is mine.

And we used to fight and chase the same birds.

No, it's mine, Jack. Go away, go away.

We were just two immature, little kids, chasing birds and now, we're chasing our own demons.

Jack, you always had my back. You were there for me when I needed a best friend. How can I leave you behind, now? How can I forget that you're my blood and you just killed my demons for me? You found the last page. You did all these sacrifices for me. You risked your own life to save mine. You put your happiness before mine. You gave me hope.

I'll never thank you enough for everything you've done in my life.

I love you brother, and we'll find Lionland. You're not dying, Jack.

I'm going to save your life.

"Is everything okay, babe?" Hazel threw herself at me as soon as I walked through the bedroom. "Is there anything I can do for you?" Her words really touched me. She didn't know the full story. She didn't know that I was about to choose Jack over her. She had no idea that I'm going back to and she'll love another man instead of me.

"No," I said, dryly. "I'm fine, Hazel."

"Are you sure?" She insisted. "I'm going to make you some tea. I'll be right back." She closed the door after her as her voice faded from a distance. "I love you..."

What have I done?

Why is it so hard to let Hazel go? Why is it so difficult?

"Is everything okay?" Jack stated, curiously. "I know you, Hawk. Something is bothering you." I was devastated, searching for a sign from above. "Are you scared of what might happen tonight?"

"It's more than that," I responded, sadly. "I'm scared that soon enough, I'll no longer have a love story."

"What do you mean?" Jack's brows almost touched. "Everything will be okay, Hawk. You're powerful and strong. Don't ever forget that. I lost my powers and I wish I could get them back but If I leave this earth after twelve, I want you to know that you're the best brother I ever had. I'm proud of you, little brother."

"What if there was a way to save your life?"

"Hawk, you've done enough." Jack ignored my question. "Stop fighting and let things flow."

"Jack?" I paused, as I tried to collect my words, perfectly. "I spoke to the lady, still exists." I grabbed the page off the floor as I showed him the unknown map that we were trying to figure out. "This map will lead us to . If we get there before twelve, you'll have your powers back. You'll live forever, we'll never grow old. I'll rule the land and I'll make sure that I do it the right way this time." I let out a deep sigh. "We have to leave, now."

"What about Hazel?" He asked, furiously. "Is she coming with us too?"

"No." I looked away as I tried to fight my own heart. "She's not." My voice weakened. Tears started to run down my eyes as I tried to hide them from Jack. "She will be fine," I explained the whole story to him.

"You love Hazel, Hawk, you need to..."

"And you're my brother..." I interrupted him as I tried to convince him to come with me. "Hazel will be happy without me. She'll find another man, marry him and have her own family." I sat on the edge of the table near his bed. "I don't want you to feel bad for me or worry about her. I made my decision, it was hard, yes, but I can't watch you die."

"It's your life, Hawk." He sighed. "You don't have to do this for me. You don't have to sacrifice your happiness for me. I want the best for both of you."

"You're coming with me, Jack." I insisted. "And that's final."

"Hawk, please think about it." Again with the speech. "Hazel loves you and I know you love her too. If you leave this earth, you'll never be able to see her again. She'll grow old and you'll be young for the rest of your life. You'll dream about a ghost for years and your heart will scream for her name for decades but her ashes will vanish under the cold ground." He patted my back as he tried to calm me down. "This isn't over, Hawk."

Yes, it is.

"I'm willing to break my own heart just to save your life, Jack," I uttered. "Whether you like it or not."

"And I'm willing to do the same but not like this." He sat up. "Your father used to tell me that if you can't make a decision between two things or two people you love, it's better if you break your own heart by not choosing at all."

"What are you trying to say?"

"I'm talking about me, Hawk." He declared, calmly. "I love my life and I also love you, brother." He coughed as fresh blood spread all over the handkerchief that he was holding between his fingers. "So that's why I'm not choosing at all."

"Are you hearing yourself, Jack?"

"I'm not coming with you, Hawk." He declined. "I'm tired of running. I want to rest for a long time."

"Please, I'm begging you."

"Hawk, you need to speak to Hazel and tell her everything before it's too late."

"Jack, you need to fight for your life."

"I'm coming with you on one condition." He demanded. "Talk to Hazel and if she says yes then I'll come with you."

"You know she's going to say no."

"Then, you already have your answer."

"Okay, fine. I'll speak to her."

"Make sure you tell her everything or I will..."

"Tell me what?" Hazel came inside the room, confused, curious for answers. "What is Jack talking about?"

"Nothing," I said, quickly.

"Tell her, Hawk." Jack covered my lie. "Tell her or I will..."

"Tell me what?" I stood up as she placed the tea on the little table. "Hawk, please. What's going on, babe?" She enveloped me with a warm hug as she tried to caress my ears with her sweet voice. "Please... tell me..."

"Hazel, please just stop asking me."

"The clock is ticking, Hawk." Jack reminded me. "You need to tell her the truth if you really want to save my life."

"Alright, fine." I finally agreed. "Come with me, Hazel."

"Hawk?" Jack stopped me. "I need to tell you something."

"Okay," I nodded yes. "Hazel, wait for me outside. I'll be coming out shortly." She obeyed as she walked away, without hesitation.

"I'm proud of you, Hawk." Tears started to melt upon his face. "I love you so so much, brother. I want you to know that no matter what happens tonight. You changed my life completely, you understood me, listened to me when I needed someone to hear my silly, funny stories. You made me, Hawk. I was lost and you found me." He smiled. "We found each other."

"I love you too, Jack," I responded. "Everything will be okay. We'll find happiness and you'll live forever next to me."

"Olen Kuolemassa," (I'm dying) He said something in Finnish. "" (I can feel it)

"" (Don't say that) Tears fell upon my face as I tried to chase his bad thoughts away. "Fight, brother)

"I love you, Hawk," Jack whispered under his breath as he tried to gasp for a little air. "I'm proud of you," He sighed. "Now, go. Hazel is waiting for you. I'm not going anywhere."

"I love you, too." I quickly said, sadly. "I won't take long." He hugged me tighter than usual. He was weak physically, I felt it. As I closed the door after me, I knew it was the worst day of my life. I had to choose between the love of my life, Hazel Brown and my only blood, my dear brother, Jack Walter.

I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs to vent my frustration, I wanted to scream so badly. I wanted to let them know that they both played an important role in my life. I wanted to but the words were stuck in my mind and I didn't know how to let them out the right way. Without hurting anyone.

I had to choose.

That was the worst part of it all.

The world was on fire and the flames were turbulent across my weak heart.

No water could turn that dangerous fire inside of me. My heart was smoking pain. My soul was screaming, begging in the dark for a little light.

"Are you okay?" Hazel stated. "Why are you crying?" She caressed my chin, softly.

"Hazel..." I got on my knees. "I'm about to tell you something and I want you to understand and accept the fact that this is the only thing that could save Jack's life." Her face went pale as she tried to listen, peacefully.

"I'm listening..."

"You're not going to like what I'm about to say," I told her in advance. "But the clock is ticking and I have to make a decision."

I swallowed my saliva, desperately. Forgive me, my love, but I'm about to break your heart in a million pieces. It hurts like hell but the love I have for you will never fail.

My heart chose you but my destiny rejected you.

"What is it? Hawk?" Hazel forced a smile. "Please, tell me." I could tell that she was begging her tears not to fall. "Babe... Tell... me..."

I started to explain everything.

Was I wrong for that? Was I wrong for breaking Hazel's heart?

Maybe.

But I was the one who was going to live with the pain for the rest of my life.
