《Her House, My Rules》Chapter 4

As I entered her room, her lazy eyes met mine. Her messy hair was all over her white pillow, her face was still beautiful but pale. Her skin was covered with sweats. Her broken voice was gone. She sounded different. As soon as I walked through the door, she was examining me from a distance. Her reaction was furious. She really didn't want me in her room.

Her father kissed her on the forehead as she fixed me with disgust. At least, Max wasn't there. I felt like the second man in the house while I was by Mr. Dean's side. I stayed by the door as I listened to their conversation, patiently.

Apparently, Mr. Dean was going on a business trip with his wife, Maria. He was telling Hazel that she was safe with me in the house.

Of course, she disagreed. She really was telling her father that I didn't even apologize to her last week. That I hated her and wanted to be with Max instead. Deep down, I didn't hate her. The way her innocent broken voice spoke about me was adorable. She was like a little Barbie doll.

Her father was leaving tonight. He wanted me to take care of Hazel.

!

He wanted me to take care of his daughter. He trusted me.

"You'll be okay, sweetheart." Her father kissed her on the cheeks. "I promise. Hawk will take care of you." He walked towards the door as I followed him, quietly.

"Stay." My heart floated as soon as I heard her sexy voice behind me.

Did I hear that right? Did Hazel just ask me to stay? Did she really ask me while her father was on his way outside? Did she really want me in her bedroom? Those questions were navigating in my head. I couldn't believe my ears. I wanted to just stay and tell her that everything was going to be okay but I didn't have the courage.

It was just one of her games.

"It's better if I leave." I avoided eye contact. I knew that I would've completely lost it if I made eye contact with her. I didn't want to hear any more of her insults.

"Please." She begged. "Stay."

"Hawk, she wants you to stay." Her father interrupted my thoughts. "She needs you." As soon as he convinced me to stay, he closed the door after him.

I placed my hands in my pocket as I fixed her on her bed. My heart was heating up. Her beauty was so hard to resist. She was so beautiful. She was so gorgeous. Man!

I was just trying my best not to steal her lips away from her. It was going to be difficult to trick her. Her beauty was getting out of hands.

She was getting hotter every second of every day.

"Make it quick." I forced my tone to react. "I'm listening."

"You can sit on my bed if you want." She offered, nervously.

"I'm good," I said, sternly. "Talk."

Trust me. Those words were so difficult for me to handle. I wanted to be nice so bad to her but it was just not the right time. She humiliated me in front of her boyfriend. She acted like I was the one guilty. She chose Max's side. I really didn't want to be a fool. I wanted to give her a taste of her own medicine.

.

"Can you do me a favor?" She sneezed. The flavor of her presence was contagious. She was really sick.

"I don't do favors." I turned away as I tried to leave. "Call Max."

"We broke up." Her words hit me like a volcano. Today was a really good day. She was finally alone. Her parents were leaving the house for a few days. Things were just getting better and better. "I lied to my dad. I didn't want him to worry about the situation. I told him that he left town and went to visit his cousins." Her tone was sincere for the first time. She didn't sound hurt at all. She was actually okay.

"Why do I care?" I played it out.

"We broke up over you."

Over me? What was she saying? Wasn't she on his side the whole time?

"I don't understand." I twisted my words. "Why am I involved in this?"

"He thought that we were sleeping with each other." Her confidence dropped on her shoulders. "I told him we were." She confessed, luckily.

"Why?" I swallowed my saliva, patiently. Thinking about the lie she just invented.

"I... I..." She hesitated. "That was the first thing that I could think of."

"Is that the only reason?" I asked, gently as I tried not to make it so obvious. I wanted to start with my plan immediately. I wanted to make her fall for me little by little.

"Yes."

"I don't believe you." The taste of my tone was cold but fair. "You told me to stay away from you and that's what I'm going to do." I forced myself to say.

"I'm sick. Can you at least be nice to me?" She suggested.

"Just because you're sick, I won't just forget everything," I said, fairly. "It doesn't work like that. Sweetheart."

"I'm sorry." She apologized.

"It's a little too late for that," I replied as I tried to leave her bedroom. "I'm leaving."

"Can you at least do me that favor?" Her voice was calm and collected. "I feel so weak and I don't think I can get up right now. Please."

"When you feel better, you can do it yourself." Her face was pale and her voice was really suave.

"You have every right to hate me. I don't blame you but you can't just watch me die." She exclaimed, truthfully.

"Why not?" My eyebrows disagreed. "Didn't you want me to die the other day? Now you're asking me for favors." I made my point. "Unbelievable."

"I was angry. Can't you just forgive and move on?" She asked, impartially.

"Remember when you told me that you don't give second chances when I asked you to forgive me." I reminded her. "Well, I think I'm going to agree with you on that one."

"Why are you so unfair?" She broke down her words as she begged for my attention.

Unfair? Was I really unfair? Hazel, you actually broke me with your words. You treated me as if I was the worst man on earth. You said I was dangerous and you were scared of me. You were unfair last week. You were the one who chose the wrong path. Now, you were really trying to make me feel bad when you started it. When you agreed that my father was just a joke.

I was hurt, Hazel. I was really hurt by your words.

"I don't want to continue with this conversation anymore." I decided. "I'm done talking to you."

"Listen." She detached herself from the bed as she made her way towards me. "I was wrong for talking to you the way I did, I didn't mean to. I was just angry that you punched Max right in front of dad. That was disrespectful. If you don't want to accept my apology, it's okay. I'll just stop asking." she walked back to her bed as she turned her back on me.

Don't do that, Hazel. Why are you doing this to me? Why do you make it so hard? Why? Just why?

"What's the favor?" I finally gave in as she faced me once again from a distance.

"Can you make me some tea?" Her question corrected my dirty thoughts. I really thought she was going to ask me to make love to her or something, I was ready to undress her under the sheets. I was ready to make her bounce like a basketball.

"Right now?" I agreed.

"Yes, please." Her request was really hard to decline. She was really sick after all and I wasn't going to disagree. I wanted her to feel better. "I feel so tired and I'm freezing. I wish someone could warm me up right now." She closed her lazy eyes as her head caressed the pillow, gently.

"Are you going to fall asleep by the time I come back?" My uncertain voice replied. "It's better if you stay up." It really was the best thing to do. Sleep. I didn't even know what I was saying.

"I will try." She said, half-asleep.

Making the tea wasn't the problem. The fact that she was making me do things for the first time was the problem. I never took care of a girl before. She was the first one. Women were cheap in my eyes but somehow, the way her voice caressed my ears, the way she carried herself as an innocent angel made me feel uncertain and curious.

I was really about to make tea for Hazel Brown. What's got into me? Why was her spell all over me? What was I doing? Why couldn't I stay away? What was so special about this girl?

She wanted my tea. I was ready to warm her stomach up and kill the sweats all over her body.
