FACING AN OLD FOE

The drive was quiet, neither of us talking as I drove. I suspect that is because Cami was to terrified of the speed I am driving at – if the way she is gripping the handle by her head is anything to go by. I stopped on a back road, somewhere that I won’t been seen. I reached over and knocked the blonde human against the dashboard, I wasn’t explaining to my twin why his therapist is dead.

I sped through the woods, pushing my Hybrid hearing as far as it would go. Fear gripped around my heart as I heard my twin’s voice. “Enough games, Davina! Send out my father! Let's finish this.”

I pushed my legs harder and faster, running at the speed of light and sound. “DAVINA! Is this not why you brought him for? I'm not afraid!” His voice was nearer now, and I came out of the woods and face to face with the familiar cabin. I sped to my brother and smacked him to the back of his head. Hard.

“Have I told you that you’re all kinds of stupid? Do you have a death wish by going at Mikael alone? We’re supposed to do stupid things like these together, you arrogant moron. Do you have any idea how I felt when I heard that you are going to try and face our father alone? Terrified, Niklaus, I was terrified.” I breathed heavily, giving my twin brother a heated glare. At least he had the audacity to look sheepish.

Chanting from inside the cabin, catches my attention. The voice is familiar. My eyes widened when it clicked together. Kaleb. But what the hell is he doing here? “Dinti tu e sedo per un dayen un trahen ble doce mozore. Un frantue e sedo per un dayen un trahen ble do sedo per.”

“Oh, fuck, fuck, fuck.” I swore, raking a hand through my blonde locks.

“What is it?” My brother asked, his eyes widening at my words.

“The witch inside, he’s doing an unlinking spell.” My brother’s confused look didn’t faded, if anything it deepened. “He’s letting Mikael of the leash Davina’s kept him on.” Nik’s eyes widened and we both turned to the door, waiting with tensed bodies. Ready for a fight. The door creeks open and Mikael walks out onto the porch and smirks.

“Hello, boy.” He smirked at my twin, I glared as my Hybrid face surfaced when fear rolled through our twin bond. It wasn’t coming from me. His glance turned to me. “Hello bitch.”

“Whack job.” I nodded, smirking when his eyes darkened in anger.

Mikael turned to my twin once again. “You seem rather impatient. Are you so eager to meet your end?”

“The only one meeting their end here today, as you so poetically put it, is going to be you.” I gave him a fake smile. “Our mother will follow your shortly down to hell.”

“Isn’t that a delightful thought.” Nik noted and we exchanged a glance, smirking gleefully. He addressed Mikael again. “I'm only eager to stand over your burning corpse again. Only this time, I intend to enjoy it more.” Mikael walks down the stairs of the front porch and approaches us, my nose curled up in distaste as I looked at him.

“I've travelled all the way back from hell for this moment.” Mikael informed us, as I kept my eyes focused on him, looking for weak spots that I can exploit during the fight. Normally I wouldn’t pay this much attention to my opponent, but this is the man that raised me and Nik, the man that has bested us on numerous occasion’s. I need any advantage I can get.

“You know, if you were our father, I’d bet all the money in the world that our flair for the dramatic came from you.” I quipped, knowing it will tick him of and make him loose control. And if he looses control of himself, it will be easier to take him down. His eyes twitched as he looked at me, a satisfied smirked graced my lips.

Nik smiles, “Well, then, I'd hate to keep you waiting!”

My twin looked at me, and I nodded. As one, we lunged for Mikael, and the three of us began fighting. Even though we manage to block each other’s hits, Mikael clearly has the upper hand. As much as I hate to admit it, he is excellent in combat. The Destroyer kicks me in the chest and I fly through the air, my back hitting a tree – the tree cracks under the force of my figure and breaks in half. I hear a growl, and I know it came from Nik. I watch the two as I fell towards the ground. Mikael kicks Klaus down onto the ground, and a thunderous growl escapes my lips, and then kicks him again so that he's laying flat on his back as my feet hits the ground. I start to run just as he grabs my twin in a choke-hold and Mikael is about to stake him when he is in my reach and grabbed him by the shoulders. I used his surprise to roundhouse kick him in the chest with all of my strength, sending him flying through the air just like he did with me a few seconds again.

“Are you okay, Nik?” I asked, breathing heavily and glancing at him. His lips tugged upwards as he nodded at me and he mouthed the words ‘thank you’. “Always and Forever.”

And then a wooden stake is pushed through Nik’s back. He skinks to his knees in pain and Mikael stands behind him with a smug smirk on his face. I sped forward, punching him in the face. He staggers backwards and I go to punch him again but he grabs my arm and breaks it. He punches me in the face so hard that the world spins in front of me. I shake my head, trying to clear my vision, but I’m knocked down flat on the ground by Mikael and he holds me in a choke-hold as he tries to stake me; with the White Oak. I use all of my strength to keep the stake away from me. Gathering all of the strength inside of me, I push forward and throw Mikael of me. I pin him down just as Nik speeds next to us and stabs Mikael in the chest with a knife I know to be Papa Tunde’s blade. I can feel the power radiating of it. Mikael screams out in pain – the sound being like music to my ears – and falls to the ground as the knife begins to embed itself in Mikael's chest. A breath of relief escapes my lips as I pushed myself of Mikael and fell to the ground.

“Are you okay, Lexie?” Nik questions, his voice concerned. I looked up at him and gave him a smile, a real one with teeth and all.

“I am now.” I promised him. He extended his hand to me and I reach up and let him pull me up. His arms went around me and I gladly hugged him back, needing it after the fight we just had. We could have died. I break the hug and look around, spotting the White Oak stake and walking to it. I picked it up, walked back to my twin and handed to him. He took it, barely noticing me. His gaze was on Mikael. I turned to the man that tormented me and Nik for a thousand years. We stared at Mikael's body lying still on the ground, completely incapacitated by the pain inflicted by the cursed blade. Suddenly, Cami appears out of nowhere and runs toward us as fast as she can, panting and trying to catch her breath.

“Where is she? If something happened to her, Klaus, I swear to God-” The blonde spoke frantically.

“I would never kill her, I don’t fancy losing Lexie for the rest of eternity.” He told her matter-of-factly with a roll of his eyes. My lips tugged upwards. “Davina's fine. She'll wake with a spectacular headache, but given her intentions for me, she should count herself lucky.” I heard Cami sigh in relief and I turned to my brother with narrowed eyes, who had a smile on his face.

“Why is she going to wake up with a headache?” He didn’t answer me, but the smile on his face disappeared. “What did you do?” I asked, my jaw clenched as I stared at my idiotic twin brother. He gulped, taking a step back when I glared at him.

“I threw a staff through the window, she ducked and well, she, uh, she may have hit her head and is currently unconscious.” I growled out, my eyes flashing before I sped into the cabin. My heart stopped when I saw Davina’s unconscious figure and my eyes blurred. I sped to her, checking her over for injuries and listening to her heart beat. A head injury and her heart beat is strong. Relief slams through me as I picked her up and hugged her to me tightly, gently laying her down on the couch.

Cami enters the cabin and kneels next to Davina’s side. I turn around and spot Kaleb. “What in the bloody hell are you doing here?”

“Would you believe me if I said I was going to do her?” He asked cheekily and pointed to my unconscious ex-girlfriend. I sped forward and grabbed him by the neck, a vicious growl escaping my lips.

“I just faught with my father and the love of my life is lying unconscious, so I’m more than a little ticked off.” I dropped him to the ground and watched as he regained his breath, a glare on my face. “I am in no mood for games.”

“She hurt her foot and called me to bring her some ointment.” I nodded, seeing the truth in his eyes. Kaleb gets up and notices Nik standing in the doorway.

“Oh. Hello, darling. Back to huff and puff and blow the house down?” The male witch teases my brother and I chuckle.

“You know, it's funny how often a person's sharp tongue can end up cutting their own throat.” My twin retorts and I don’t have to turn to him to know that he is scowling. Half because Kaleb is irritating him, half because he can not enter the room.

“Klaus, he's just a kid. Give him a break.” Cami told my brother, glancing at him over her shoulder.

“Yeah, she's right. You know, you may want to try a bit of lavender under your pillow. Does wonders for stuck-up pillocks with anger issues.” He told my brother, a smug smirk on his lips and a hearty laugh leaves my lips. Not a lot of people, save for myself, tease my brother.

“Hey! Shut it.” Cami scolded Kaleb, much to my amusement.

“I promised not to kill Davina. I said nothing of this insolent sod.” Nik spat and I can feel the way he glaring at the kid. She gets up from Davina’s side and walks to my brother.

“Well, I think he’s rather amusing.” I quipped, a grin on my lips as sat down next to Davina.

“Yes, well of course you would think so.” He grumbled as Cami lead him outside. I tuned out of their conversation as I inspected the head wound. I know for a fact she won’t appreciate it if I used my vampire blood to heal her. I suppressed a sigh as I took one of her delicate little hands in my own. She is so beautiful, but I can see that our break up has taken it’s toll on her as well – if the dark bags under her eyes are anything to go by. Even after everything, I love her. I love her so fucking much. Emotion wells up in my chest. For a second it’s hard to breath and I breathed in deeply, before it could suffocate me.

“You love her a lot.” Kaleb said from behind me, his voice soft. It wasn’t a question, it was a statement.

“She is my whole heart.” I told him truthfully without looking away from her for even a second as hear footsteps at the doorstep of the cabin. From the scent, I can tell it is Nik.

“You've got a way with words.” Nik states and my eyebrows furrowed. What is he getting at?

“Well, I've traveled.” Kaleb states and I hear him walking over to my twin, probably so they can speak face-to-face.

“You seem to have crossed continents to order to weasel your way into Davina's good graces, thereby meddling in my family business.” Nik paused for a second. “Strange, isn't it?” He paused again and I looked at them over my shoulder, seeing realisation of something on Nik’s face and nothing but Kaleb’s back. “Unless it's your family business. You know, ever since my mother and Finn, I was wondering when you might make an appearance, Kol.” I froze briefly, before standing up with wobbly legs.

“Then the jig is up!” Nik smiles as though he is genuinely pleased to see him, he probably is. “Hello, brother!” No fucking way. Finn was right.

“Kol.” I whisper, tears welling up in my eyes and I took a step forward. I saw him tense. Then he turn around slowly. He gave me a small smile.

“Hey, big sister.” It really is him. And then I was speeding forward and I punched him in the nose, not very hard but enough for him to stagger backwards.

“That’s for not coming to the Compound and telling me that you’re back.” I grabbed his arm, pulled him closer and hugged him tightly, smiling warmly as happiness flowed through me. “That’s for being back and for how much I missed you.” We pulled away and I looked at Nik, who also had happiness shining in his eyes.

“It's not that I begrudge you hitching a ride back to the land of the living. It's just that you're making all the wrong friends, brother. And, I have half a mind to show you how wrong you are.” My twin brother points out and Kaleb, sorry Kol, continues to smirk as he leans in to whisper to Nik.

“But you're not going to do that, are you? Because your little blonde friend told you to leave me alone.” Kol said, clearly enjoying himself as my brother chuckled. “I'm curious, does she take one of those little baggies out when she takes you for a walk?” A bark of laughter left my lips and just like that, the pleasant tone of conversation evaporated. Annoyance now shines in Nik’s eyes.

“Cami? I changed my mind, I am going to kill him after all.” My twin said, and I know he wouldn’t. Kol keeps on smirking, but when Cami doesn't respond, Klaus gets worried and walks toward the car.

“Don’t worry, I won’t let him kill you.” I promised, giving Kol a grin. He grinned back. “I missed you.”

“I missed you too, Lex.”

Before either of us could say anything, Nik came back. “Cami’s gone.”

Hey guys, I'm not back from my semi-hiatus yet, but I just wanted to write something before I got back to my studying. (It's exhausting and writing relaxes me.)

Hope you all enjoyed!
