“I’m going to walk Kaleb out.” Davina told me with a smile as we stood up. “And then we can go home.” She whispered lowly, her voice seductive. It sends goosebumps rising on my body in anticipation.
“Race you home.” I teased with a flirty smile and she nodded. I got up and walked to the bar counter, taking out my wallet to settle the bill. The door of the bar slammed shut and I saw – and smelt – werewolves. Using my supernatural hearing, I heard that they were closing the bar for the day. Supposedly some other function. I snorted. Yeah, right.
I sped behind the counter to wait and see what they would do – I knew the second they saw me that they would drop all of their plans and leave. Luckily Davina got out soon enough. As soon as that thought entered my head, I froze. The familiar heartbeat that I’ve fell asleep to most nights was in the restaurant. She was arguing with another werewolf. A scream of pain made me feel proud. That’s my girl.
Then I heard her yell.
And a raw, primal rage, more so than I’ve felt ever before, consumed me. I jumped on the counter, eyes flashing and fangs grown, with a monstrous growl. Before they could react, I jumped forward into the air and ripped off one of the werewolves heads. I landed in front of the door and behind the group of moonlight ring werewolves, the head dangling in my hands. I turned around slowly, a deadly glare on my face. Terror instantly filled their faces. Obviously they didn’t realize that I am here.
“Try and touch my girl again, I dare you.” My words were like fire. The wolves shrank back in fear, clearly terrified. I smirked. “Now, who’s next?” My question was rhetorical, as I am going to kill them all anyways. If they tried to fight me alone, some of them could have run away and I wouldn’t have chased them down. But they tried to attack my girl. That was unforgiveable. I took a step forward and they all took a step backwards.
Speeding forward, I ripped out two hearts. A wolf jumped on my back and I ripped of his arms. I started to fight, killing wolves left and right as they came at me. My heart stopped once again as I heard a scream. Not any scream. Her scream. Davina. I ripped out the heart of the werewolf in front of me.
“I’m going to enjoy this, girl.” No. No. No. There was no way. I froze. Everything stopped working, my brain, my heart, my body. I stood paralyzed as I processed the bomb dropped on me. Mikael is alive. Mikael is alive. It swirled around in my head, stuck on repeat like a bad song. I didn’t even have to look around to know it is real, I would recognize the voice of the man that tormented me and my brother for a thousand years, anywhere.
Something snapped together and I was able to move around again as I realized that Mikael has my sole reason for existing in his hands. I turned around and my Hybrid face grew. I heard the door open and spotted my eldest brother. “Aleksios, what-”
My brain tuned out as my eyes locked on Mikael’s figure, his hands around Davina’s throat. Her terrified face. I flew forward and threw him off her with all of my strength. A thunderous growl ripped from my chest, through my throat and past my lips as I turned and stood protectively in front of her.

“Father?” I heard Elijah whisper in shock. I’m shocked to, last time I checked, Nik and I murdered him.
“Hello, son. I'd hoped to see your brother first, but I guess his bitch of a twin sister will have to do.” He snarled, looking a me with a disgusted expression. I smirked. I was used to that look by now. “I am going to kill you, you beast.”
“You’re going to have to, if you want to get to the precious girl behind me because there is no way that you are getting to her while I am alive.” I snarled back at him. He did something that threw me off guard. He laughed.
“I’m surprised, you abomination. I did not think that you would defend the witch that brought me back. I honestly thought you would kill her.” I was like someone took a sledgehammer to my chest. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. No, she would have told me. He is lying. It’s what he does. I shook my head.
“No. You’re lying. I know you are. Tell him, love, tell him you didn’t do it.” I turned to Davina and I knew. Her face told me everything she didn't for the past six months. Mikael isn’t lying. For once, the one time I wish he isn’t, he is telling the truth. Davina brought back Mikael. The man who hunted me and Niklaus for a millennia. Hurt and betrayal filled my body and imbedded itself into my bones. I felt like I was about to collapse. I inhaled sharply, my eyes stinging. I took short breaths, trying to control myself. She stepped forward and I immediately moved back. Hurt filled her eyes, but I couldn’t care. Tears welled up in her eyes and she opened her mouth but she didn’t get to say anything as I was flung across the bar.
“Enough of this.” Mikael snarled at me. I got up and the two of us bagin to fight. Mikael pulls the white oak stake out of the waistband of his pants and fear gripped my heart as betrayal settled into my bones even deeper. How many times have I told her that my brothers and I are looking for the stake? She even did a locator spell for me. I guess she lied to me. What else has she lied about? Due to my distractedness, he pins me down and aims the stake for my heart while I desperately try to push his arms away. It's no use, I was to weakened by my emotional state.
Mikael gets the upper-hand and impales the tip of the stake in my chest. Fire burned through me. Worse than wolfsbane, worse than vervain, worse than the two combined. “AAAH!” I roared out from the pain, the fire engulfing my body. Suddenly he lets me go and vamp-speeds away from me. I turned my head and saw him pinning Davina to a wall. The fear of losing her, even after what she’s done, takes over the burning feeling in my chest. I rip out the white oak stake and throw it to the ground, using all of my energy to get up and speed to the duo that is Mikael and my love. I ripped him off her once again and speed him away from her. His back hit a wall and I used my last strength to pin him down with my hands wrapped around his neck.
“I will fight for her, no matter what she’s done, until my last breath. Over my body, will you kill her.” I spoke roughly, my breathing labored, my chest heaving up and down as the pain from the white oak remained, the wound healing slower than other.

He smirked, “That can be arranged.” Due to my now even more weakened state, he quickly threw me off him. I hit the ground with a thud. He kicked me in the chest, hard, before sped away. Within a few seconds he was by my side again, he flipped me onto my back and I saw the white oak in his hand. He raised his hands, stake clutched tightly in them. I closed my eyes, accepting the fact that after a thousand years, Mikael was about to kill me. Goodbye, my family. Goodbye, my twin. Goodbye, Davina. I love all of you, and it will be a privilege to die protecting one of you.
The stake never came as the terrified voice of my girlfriend rang out, “STOP! Go back, .” I opened my eyes. Mikael sighs and reluctantly gets of me and speeds away. She controls him. Seems fitting. If she wasn’t able to control him, he would have killed Nik and I months ago.
I coughed and sat up slowly. I saw her stepping to me. “No.” I breathed roughly. Her steps stopped immediately. “Elijah, if you please.” I stretched out my hand and not a second later, I was pulled up gently. He slowly let me go and I swayed on my feet. My brother took a hold of me again, steadying. “I need blood.” I coughed.
“You can take blood from me.” Davina offered. I couldn’t even look at her.
“I don’t want anything from you.” My words were harsh. Right now, I was hurting. I need her to hurt too. I need her to feel what she is doing to me.
“I’ll go get someone.” Marcel said and sped outside. When did he get here? I shook the thought from my head and I looked around the bar, expect for that once place where she stood. I notice Kaleb behind the bar and give him a look.
“Something to say?” So, Elijah noticed him to. I kept my eyes on him, wanting to know his answer.
“Not me, mate. Not a bloody thing.” He answered my dark haired brother. His eyes flickered to me, those blue orbs scanning over my body. Concern swirled in his eyes. I was to out of it care or pay it anymore attention. My attention was drawn to the mouthwatering scent that came from the front door. I speed to the body, eagerly drinking the human. I knew I should have stopped, I shouldn’t have drained him, but I did. My predator side was still out from the confrontation with Mikael. I dropped the body to the floor, feeling much better, but I needed a lot more blood and some sleep to get back to full strength.
“You good?” Marcel asked me, raising his eyebrows.
“For now.” I nodded. Then I decided to face reality head on.“Everyone, but Davina, out.” I ordered.
“Aleksios-” Elijah started and I spun to him.
“Wait for me at the cemetery. I need to tell Nik myself.” I told him, he opened his mouth to say something but shut it when he saw the look on my face. My brother nodded and left. I turned back to the door. The body was gone, probably Marcel’s doing.
The silence was deafening. I didn’t know who was more scared to start talking, me or Davina? Pulling all of the courage that I had left together, I slowly turned to face the love of my life. Tears blurred my vision the instant our eyes locked. When the first of many, I knew there would be more, fell from my eyes I could see her again. She had tears of her own rolling down her cheeks. Everything in me screamed to comfort her. I ignored it.
“You lied to me.” My words were a statement. “You betrayed me. Again.” I said, my voice soft and raw with emotion. A sob broke free from her lips. “I trusted you. We said no secrets and I trusted you with my family’s biggest secret and you lie to me. You bring back the man that hunted me down for a thousand years, the man that tormented my nightmares and dreams for centuries. You know this, and yet you brought him back!” The anger was back and the hurt was flaming it.
“I didn’t bring him back!” She shouted, interrupting me. “The night of Hope’s birth-” For the first time since I met her, I growled at Davina, dangerously. My eyes flashed.
“Don’t. Don’t you dare talk about her. You don’t get to do that, not anymore. You lost all right the second you brought him back.” I spat. Fear clenched around my heart as a thought hit me. “Please, tell me that you didn’t tell Mikael about her.” I was begging her.
She shook her head furiously. “I would never.” The witch swore and I saw nothing but truth and desperation – desperation that I’d believe her - shining in her eyes. “You can look into my mind if you don’t believe me.” She offered weakly. Then a fire lit in her eyes, “How can you even for one second think that I would bring her into this?”
“Are you seriously asking me that right now?” I questioned her in disbelief, crossing my arms over my chest. “After what I just found out?” Guilt and sorrow filled her eyes and a tear fell down her cheek. Pain clenched my heart.
“I didn’t bring him back.” She swore and I scoffed, not believing her. Her face said it all earlier. “I didn’t. The night of her birth, the ancestors took control of me and used me to bring him back. When I had control of my body again, I was so terrified that I put a binding spell on him. I bound him to this bracelet-” She held her arm up. Another lie. She told me she made it with magic. Although, technically she did. “So I could control him.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me? I would have helped you kill him with the white oak stake, seeing as you had it all along.” My tone was accusatory, I knew. The guilt in her eyes deepened. My stomach sank at the look and I knew I was not going to like what was about to come out of her mouth.
“I wanted to kill Klaus.” She admitted in a whisper that I had to strain to make out. Another sledgehammer to the chest. Tears flowed down my cheeks and I placed my hands over my face as I closed my eyes. I couldn’t believe it. “I was going to figure out how to unlink Klaus from his sireline and have Mikael kill him.”
“Why, why would you want to do that? I know you don’t get alone, but that doesn’t mean you have to kill him.” I threw my hands up in the air, not understanding her reasoning at all.
“I just want you to myself!” She snapped and I stepped back.
“You don’t think that after a thousand years of only having each other, Nik doesn't wants me to himself to? That he wants you in my life? He doesn't, Davina. And, no, he hasn’t said it in so many words, but he doesn’t need to. I know he does, I see the hurt, the fear of losing me in his eyes everytime I leave the Compound. The fear that I’d never come back. But you know what, Davina, he would never do anything to move a hair out of place on your head because he knows how much he means to me. He knows how much I love you!” I shouted at her. My chest heaved up and down as I was out of breath from all the shouting. “He knows he would loose me if he did. And how did it not occur to you that, that just like Nik would, you would have lost me the second that Nik was killed, because I would have known it was your doing.”
“I’m sorry, okay! I just, I just love you.” Davina said, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“No.” I shook my head. “No, you don’t get to use that excuse.” I snapped at her. “We’ve had this fight before, and now we have it again. We can’t keep having the same fight over and over again. At some point we have to face the reality. And this is that point.” I told her, my heart cracking.
“What reality?” She asked, her voice quivering with fear.
“That we don't work. That there are to much against us.”
“What are you saying?” She asked, fear in her eyes shining brighter than anything I’ve seen before. Pain was already imbedding itself into my soul as it registered what I was doing.
“We’re over. We're done.” My heart shattered as the words left my lips.
“No, Aleksios, I love you.” She said desperately, frantically, stepping forward.
“I love you too, Davina. And I always will.” I admitted and a glimmer of hope shined through the abyss of sadness. “But we just don’t work.” It was a lie, I knew. We fit like two puzzle pieces. But this betrayal was the one knock our relationship wouldn’t survive. I wouldn’t be able to trust her and without trust, a relationship is worthless. I turned around, tears streaming down my face like a never ending stream. I sped out just as she called out my name. I had one thought as I made my way to Lafayette, where Elijah was waiting.
So this is how it feels when your entire world collapses.
