《Changing The Course of Fate》Chapter 17 - The Mark of a New Beginning (3)

Pier was unaware that everyone's attention was currently directed at him as he continuously patted the young prince's head.
Everyone was feeling different emotions. Raphael and Vivian looked at Pier like they were staring at something really cute while Asher was staring at Pier and his younger brother with unreadable emotions. Prince Faust was smiling brightly as he glanced at the both of them while Elena on the other hand had the same stare as Asher, she had unreadable emotions in her eyes.
The stares were only broken when the king showed himself from the platform that was in the elevated front of the palace. People were looking at King Henry with so much admiration and respect that one could tell they would devote themselves to him undoubtedly. King Henry's influence as well as his magical aura that specifically was meant for rulers could be felt as he gave his welcoming remarks. Pier remembered the small amount of pressure the king released during their time in the garden.
"The Royal Banquet shall officially begin!" The king's final statement became the starting point of cheers and claps all around the banquet hall. Servants started delivering the food for the nobles that were present and the laughter and cheers resonated in the atmosphere
Everyone was having fun as they chattered and conversed however Pier was smiling with a hint of nervousness. Was it because of his upcoming performance? no, was it because of the large crowd that will see him perform? That's not it either.
He was nervous because this will be a new chapter in Pier's life. Through this performance, he hoped it will become the starting point of Pier Belmiunde's new chapter in life. His image will not become better immediately but it will be the start.
Pier made his way into the front side of the banquet hall. There, a luxurious piano was placed for his performance this evening. His elegant strides were catching the eyes of the nobles he had passed. Those that saw the young master walk towards the piano started frowning. Their eyebrows creased and their moods suddenly changed.
It was the time that the young master from the Belmiunde Household would give his terrible performance but no one would even dare to disrupt the horrible performance because it was their beloved King's wish. Many people were either sighing or frowning when they saw Pier near the piano. They were starting to judge and ostracize him in their minds. This would be the start of the only bad and worst part of the Royal Banquet.
Amidst the degrading atmosphere, there was a person among the crowd that was brightly smiling. He was anticipating the performance he would see. Raphael was clenching his hand as he stared at Pier who was talking with Instructor Bart. He was excited to see what and how Pier would perform the piece he had chosen.
He asked the young master during their practice what would be the piece he was going to play but the latter never revealed the answer. Raphael chuckled at the memory he recalled.

"I am hoping the young master will do well" Vivian who was also noticeably nervous for Pier said. She was concerned that the young master's performance would become the reason he will once more be criticized and looked down on. She finally had met a worthy person and the one who had made her dreams come true. Pier was the only person who did not mock her dream of becoming a professional tailor and he actually helped her materialize these dreams. She did not desire any bad things to happen to Pier.
"He will do well," Raphael said while smiling. Vivian saw this and was amazed to see that Raphael was confident in the words he said. She nodded and looked back at the elevated platform where Pier was
Asher, who was sitting at the front was also readying himself. The young master had been full of surprises in the past months and he wondered if Pier will once more reveal one of the surprises he had in store. Technically speaking, Asher's ill will towards Pier had now reached minuscule levels - no, animosity was now out of the picture but only a small amount of doubt left.
After what Pier had shown him earlier, he was starting to trust the young master's words. Pier did not want to be with Asher anymore. Asher felt weird after coming to the conclusion that Pier had meant what he said but at the same time, he was thinking about positive things with Pier now. Either Pier played well or not, he no longer held any grudges against the young master and was now looking forward to a better future. Elena, who was beside Asher was smiling.
'He will embarrass himself once more.' She was delighted at what was about to happen. Pier had surprised her this evening by not even sparing her and Asher a second glance after their greetings and conversations, but now she would once more see how Pier's image would further hit the dust.
Pier took a deep breath. He readied himself and at the same time checked if there are any errors in the instrument.
'Perfect.' He smiled as he closed his eyes and thought of one thing.
'Pier? If you're seeing this then this is for you.' He was dedicating this performance to the original Pier who was now gone
'Thank you for lending me your body.' He smiled as he pressed the first key of the piece he was about to play
Everyone held their breaths as the first key was pressed. However, the initial mistake that they thought Pier would do did not come. Instead, a beautiful melody came out as the following keys were pressed.
Pier was expertly gliding his fingers across the keys. He was closing his eyes which added beauty to the scenery. The people who were watching him had their jaws on the ground as the magnificent piece was being played. It was so melodious and beautiful.
One could not help but close his eyes and feel the atmosphere being created by the young master. Pier was dedicating this song to Pier, a hopeless romantic who endlessly chased the crown prince up until he disappeared. His love was not reciprocated but still did not waver against any circumstances he faced.

Raphael was smiling widely as he watched the young master play in front. The music was indeed one of the most beautiful pieces he had ever heard but Pier, who was playing the piano far exceeded that. What Raphael saw right now was similar to that of an entity that was full of wonders.
The lights that dimmed when Pier started playing added more to the atmosphere he had created - a serene but harmonious atmosphere.
'Wow...' Vivian had her mouth agape as she listened to Pier perform one of the best pieces she had ever heard. She was a good player of the instrument but what she's seeing right now was a spot that she could never reach even if she would practice her entire life.
Pier looked so breathtaking as small orbs of light danced along with the music. His hair which somehow became slightly unruly was not even bad to look at but instead added more to the majestic aura that he was giving. Everyone was staring at Pier with shock, admiration, and awe.
It felt like he was riding on the wind as Asher listened and watched Pier perform. To say he was surprised would be an understatement - he had slightly expected that the young master would perform well this year but what the young master was doing right now far exceeded his expectations. Pier seemed like he was a genius who was pressing the keys. Asher was astounded at the scenario in front of him.
The piece, which depicts both love and anguish was the perfect song for Pier. He loved, up until the end of his soul. His love, which may have exceeded the heavens above for the Crown Prince continued up until his soul dissipated into nothingness. Even though Pier was closing his eyes, his emotions felt different.
Eliam might be the person inside Pier's body but the original owner still had his memories intact when Eliam transferred. He recalled the numerous memories Pier had when the latter was dreaming about a life with the crown prince. When Pier had his expectations of achieving the perfect love for him.
Asher became Pier's world. He did not care about anything else except the prince. He would write him numerous letters a day and would visit the palace every week just to see his beloved Asher. Eliam felt pity for the original owner of the body.
He saw the scenarios Pier had imagined with Asher. He saw the beautiful life Pier had constructed in his mind where he and Asher were married. He saw it all, but up until Pier's last words, none of it came true. Eliam also despised the crown prince. He was having conflicted feelings about Asher.
He was Pier's childhood friend and Eliam was willing to become friends with Asher again but the memories of how he had rejected the hopeless romantic kept on popping up in his mind. It was hard but it was beautiful.
A love so pure and devoted that the gods would even be astounded was dedicated to another being but it did not even reach the intended. It was heartbreaking yet beautiful. Pier had experienced the beauty of love where he would keep on dreaming about the same person and would smile whenever he thought about them but he also experienced how harsh it could be. He had gone through the point where his heart would beat frivolously as he thought of the man he had been in love with.
There were times Pier would send letters to Asher requesting the prince to meet with him. He would wait for the mentioned place in the letter for hours but the prince would never come. He would bake countless pastries for Asher alone but the prince received none. There were even instances when Pier would find his pastries being thrown out by the servants.
He experienced both happiness and hurt and Eliam was pitying Pier so much to the point that his fingers which were hitting the keys with soft emotions initially became filled with such passion to play it. It was his dedication, to the hopelessly in love person that gave him this second chance. He would do the best he can to help Pier live his request, to enjoy life.
As Pier pressed the final key of the piece he played, a tear dropped down his cheek. The tear glistened under the light of the small light orbs and those that saw it felt their hearts break. When he finally stopped playing, everyone was silent.
No one dared to speak, no one dared to ruin the aftermath of Pier's performance. When they were engulfed with the beautiful melody of the masterpiece Pier played, they were also astonished. It was beautiful, elegant, wonderful - words were not enough to describe what they have just witnessed. It was the perfect performance in the history of the kingdom.
Everything was silent - until continuous claps could be heard. It was Raphael, his heart was beating so fast. He did not know the reason but it feels like he was also on the verge of tears. His claps resonated throughout the entire palace.
It was then soon followed by the claps of the nobles who had heard the masterpiece
Clap! Clap! Clap!
Pier looked at the series of cheers and exclamations of praise. He smiled at them before rising from the stool he was sitting on and bowing. The unending praise from the nobles was ringing loudly in his ears but he did not mind -
Because it was the end.
The end of his first performance but the start of his new chapters in life.
It was the mark of Pier Belmiunde's new beginning.
