《Changing The Course of Fate》Chapter 1 - Promise

Sighing, he clenched his hands together and ground his teeth in annoyance. The memories that were playing inside his head gave him so much stress.
'I... am infatuated with the Crown Prince?' He asked himself in distress.
'Oh my goodness.' He groaned again. This seems like one of those novels he had read back at home where the main character from another world dies and gets transmigrated in a historical-themed story with the cliche plot of the original owner of the body severely desperate in seeking the favor of someone who doesn't love them back.
Deciding that he should sort things out first, he started to write a mental note of the facts that he acquired from the memories.
'First and foremost, my name is Pier Alexander Belmiunde, the only child of Lady Antoinette and Headmaster Ronnovian!' He wanted to bite his fingernails as the anxiety flooded his system yet with how beautiful the hands looked, the urge suddenly disappeared.
He stared at himself once more in the mirror when the door suddenly opened and an old-looking butler came in.
"Young Master Pier, Headmaster Ronnovian had been waiting since earlier. Please get ready and immediately head to the dining room," he said before walking out as if Pier did not exist and he merely talked to the wind.
'What an asshole' Pier glared at the man who did not even bat an eye.
He needs to keep himself collected
Opening his dresser, he started looking for suitable clothes that he can wear. Since he had already grasped the fashion sense people in this world had, he knew what to pick based on the memories but disappointment came running inside his soul as the bright colors of different suits greeted him.
'What the fuck, even I who barely grasped the entirety of this world knows how to style myself!' Pier glared at the unmatched suit colors that were too bright for his own liking.
He guessed the original Pier liked being the center of attention as he scanned the wardrobe and his eyes caught a glimpse of a simple suit that is at the furthest corner of the wardrobe.
Grabbing the suit, he looked at the mirror while trying to identify whether it was enough for him to go outside and not be made fun of again.
The caramel-colored casual wear he had on was not too bright nor was it too dull to be out of fashion and he looked good. Pier sighed as a small amount of contentment echoed within his chest. 'Definitely better than the ones he wore on a daily basis.'
After changing his night wears into a comfortable suit, Pier went out of the room and immediately started walking towards the dining room. He followed the direction as he remembered in Pier's memory.
As two maids stood outside the door that leads to the dining room, he cannot help but feel anxious about what lies beyond that thick piece of finely carved wood. The intricate patterns adorned in the wood scream elegance and beauty.
The maids then opened the door for him. The large table composed of twelve seats greeted him. A not-so-old man was sitting at the opposite end of the table while a woman was beside him. Based on Pier's memory, the woman was not his mother but rather his father's second wife after Lady Antoinette passed away when she gave birth to him.
The woman sitting next to his father was previously his secret affair but when his mother died, she became his official wife and their secret kids became his official children.

'I'm not having a good feeling right now. Ugh.'
Next to his stepmother were two younger males casually talking with his father. 'Damn, that felt weird. I guess I should call him father for now, too.' Pier grimaced.
As he approached the table, the four gazes landed upon him as he sat at the spot where I remembered Pier would usually sit during meals.
"Good morning, Pier," my stepmother greeted me. She somehow gave him an eerie feeling. It's as if she's the horrendous stepmother Cinderella had but more of like a pretentious one.
"Good morning, mother." He had already known Pier was hostile to the woman in front of him and the latter would usually throw a fuss when she greets him. That would only lead to his father getting mad at him and would punish him later.
I don't know if the real Pier was stupid or if he was just ignorant. One would know that hiding under another mask would be the best counter for people who try to take advantage of their true nature.
The unexpected response may have been a shocker to the old woman as her eyes went wide for a brief moment. The two younger guys sitting at her side seemed shocked as well, including his father.
"My, it seems like you have woken up at the right side of the bed," She casually joked out.
"I did." Pier smiled at her which may have baffled her when he saw the corner of her eye twitch. 'I don't know, if I were the original Pier, I could never understand why he gets mad at simple provocations such as these.'
Dealing with those nasty professors at the university might have helped him put on a tough show.
"Come on now, enough chatter, and let's eat." the authoritative voice of Pier's father rang out and the semi-tense and awkward atmosphere dissipated.
The maids carefully served the meal to every member of the family and the warm aroma of the soup laid out in front of him made his mouth water for a second. I was about to dig in at the delicious soup when I felt a gaze watch over me.
Pier doesn't need to know who in the world dared to land their disgusting eyes on him because it's pretty much obvious that it's his stepmother. She might be constantly monitoring his every move.
Based on Pier's memory, this vile woman would constantly correct his manners at the table as well as his actions. This would embarrass him and would cause him to walk out.
'Seriously what's with this attitude, Pier? Even a kid could play a game of plasticity with this woman!' He tried to reprimand someone who probably was dead.
Grabbing the spoon with his right arm and scooping some of the hot soup with it, he closed his eyes. Pier was left-handed, but the etiquettes imposed in this household about eating were always favorable to the right arm thus giving him the difficulty eating.
He intentionally bent the position of his arm causing the hot soup to pour out of the spoon and onto the finely cleaned table.
"Oh my, Pier. It seems like you still haven't perfected table etiquette yet," Her worried voice resonated in his ear which caused him to smirk while trying to put on a worried expression also.
"Forgive me, mother," Pier spoke as he tried to scoop another spoonful of soup and made a mistake again.
"Pier, stop wasting the food. You're not a kid anymore to make mistakes," the young man with black hair said. He resembled Pier's father so much that he would look like his carbon copy. Pier could hear the maids snickering at his back at the constant mistakes he was making. His gaze drifted towards his father and saw that Ronnovian was not giving any reaction.

"Father," he called and as soon as he did so, Ronnovian's gaze then landed upon him and he could feel his uninterested mood settle.
"I am asking permission for me to use my left hand when I eat," Pier had his lips downturned. Ronnovian paused for a second and Pier knew the former was caught off guard at the sudden request. He would've laughed at the small detail but restrained himself from doing so. 'Come on, I'm doing a good job here you know?'
"And why is that? Isn't the right hand the one that should be used when eating?" Ronnovian inquired and Pier resisted the urge to roll his eyes. 'Oh my god, what's with this family and this bullshit of etiquette? Who imposes these rules? I would like to slap the shit out of them.'
"The reason for such request father is that I am left-handed and I do not feel comfortable eating with my right arm," Pier told him and the other guy sitting beside father's carbon copy answered him instead.
"Then just eat with your right hand then, it's not that hard," He tried to sound smart. Pft.
"According to one of Hamiel's books, food should be enjoyed by that every individual and should be comfortable with how he acts. Etiquettes are applied but the body's natural habit should not be ignored. I believe that being a left-handed individual is not something that should be ignored and I have been using my left hand when holding a spoon before." Pier was grateful that the original owner of his body liked reading books.
His answer seemed to have made him look like a small-brained shrimp causing him to laugh inwardly at the sight.
"I-Is that so?" His embarrassed face would've sold a hundred bucks if I have my camera right now.
I nodded at him and returned my gaze to my father. He stared into me and sighed again.
"You're permitted, Pier. Please be at ease and eat in your comfort," he said and started eating again.
"Thank you, father," Pier responded as he looked at the three rats staring at him with their gaping eyes. Giving them a small smile, Pier then started to eat. The maids at the back stopped laughing too.
If this was the original Pier, he would've responded with some sarcastic remarks and would've left the table without eating anything. 'He missed the delicious soup served at this table then. Pity.'
As he wholeheartedly ate my meal, the two brothers kept giving him small glances and if it weren't for the tasty meal he was having, Pier would've scooped their eyeballs out with a spoon.
After eating, he then graciously stood up and thanked everyone for the generous meal. They looked like baked chickens when he spoke his thanks but it was all worth it.
Ronnovian asked him too if he wanted to accompany him again to the royal palace since he had business to do there but Pier declined. He had a lot of things to sort out first in this pathetic life the original Pier had lived so far.
Of course, the two assholes that tried to embarrass him during breakfast volunteered that they wanted to go along with father but when asked for their reason, all words seemed to have lost their meaning. Even the witch did not try to make another move on me.
As he went back to my room, Pier immediately called for a maid. He wanted to change Pier's style of clothing because the clothes he had all stood out like a sore thumb. A thorn amongst roses. 'No wonder rumors about him being an attention-whore started spreading around the palace. Not that they're wrong or anything because Pier is an attention whore himself!' He rolled his eyes at the thought.
Twenty minutes have passed yet there was no response to his call for the maids. Sighing, I went outside my room and towards the corridor where the maids usually spend their time in.
As he approached the room, Pier started hearing the loud murmurs and voices of people who are seemingly enjoying their leisure time.
One thing that he hated are useless groupmates that doesn't follow a single task assigned to them back in college and the scenario right in front of him made his blood boil.
An expensive-looking vase caught Pier's eyes and being the calm person he was, held the vase with one hand and purposely dropped it.
Crash!
The noise of the vase breaking startled everyone in the room and in a split second, he gathered all of the eyes that belonged to the maids.
"Oh my, I did not mean to drop it," He spoke while looking uninterested at their wide eyes.
"Twenty-three minutes ago, I called for a maid to come into my room yet no one did. I guess everyone was busy playing castle games in here?" He then smiled at them. His words might have sounded terrible to their ears as they scrambled to immediately stop what they were doing.
"Oh? Now everyone is busy preparing themselves? I see," Pier muttered while approaching another expensive-looking vase and dropping it. Crash!
"Oh no, I made a mess again. I hope everyone here would forgive me for my lack of manners." Their eyes stared down at the broken pieces of the vase and then once more returned to him.
"Servants who are purposely ignoring their master's commands. What a sight to behold. I have been ignorant of your blatant disrespect to me in the previous years and everyone seems okay with such behavior." The pleasant feeling of being the center of attention soaked his soul. This was Pier's original emotions and it's directly affecting him. 'Ugh, what a hassle.'
"F-Forgive us, Young Master Pier! We have committed a grave sin against you. P-Please pardon us..." The head butler stammered. He suddenly got the urge to slam his head on the broken pieces of the vase right in front of him yet he stopped himself.
"Everyone in this room and those who dared to ignore my commands shall leave the mansion on this day. If I ever see any of your faces tomorrow once more, I shall get the heads of your families and hang them at the palace's gates!" Pier's voice was threatening and everyone became dead silent at his words. He smiled inwardly, pleased at the scene before him.
He did not care about everyone in here. But the memories of the original Pier gained his pity.
Pier loves attention, that's for sure but, at the same time, he's an awkward kid that does not retaliate to the hostility of others which made everyone abuse the attitude he presents. The emotions he held before Eliam transferred into his body all came crashing into his mind.
Pain
Sorrow
Sadness
Hatred
Every negative emotion there is was present in his soul and even though Eliam had complete control over his emotions, Pier's feelings were too much to handle he need to let some of them out.
Another thing was that in recent years, Pier seems to have lost every reason to be happy. There are small glimpses of his happiness but they were short-lived. When he scanned his memories, the moments he became happy were when he saw the Crown Prince or if the dude was giving him attention.
'God, this kid was obsessed with the prince!' He mentally shook his head at the disappointment that coursed through his veins with the original Pier's actions but at the same time, felt both pity and thankfulness.
The original Pier's soul became so sad that it chose to leave this world and allowed a new inhabitant to occupy his body.
'Don't worry, Pier. As payment for allowing my wandering soul to live in your stead, I will make this body happy and punish those who've wronged you!' he promised.
