《My Brother's Best Friend》Chap. 39

"So do you think he has anything planned?" Michelle asked me.
I stabbed my salad with a little more force than necessary. "It's Parker. I'd be surprised if he even knew what Valentine's Day was."
Michelle chuckled as I ate my disfigured salad leaf.
"I'm going out tomorrow night," Emmett informed me, as he took a seat next to me at my lunch table.
"Going to take that someone special out?" I teased.
"Something like that."
I rolled my eyes, and he flashed me a smile before heading outside.
"Who knows?" Michelle said, as I took another bite of my salad. "Maybe Parker is a secret romantic."
"Yeah, and maybe the world is flat and the moon is made of cheese," I deadpanned, before finishing off my salad. "I'm going to class."
"We still have five minutes left of lunch."
"All of this talk about Valentine's Day has thoroughly sickened me." I tossed my trash into the trash can before heading out of the lunchroom towards my locker.
"Hey," Daniel called, jogging to catch up with me.
"Hey yourself," I replied, avoiding eye contact with him.
"Do you have plans for tomorrow?"
I reached my locker, ignoring him as I opened the lock.
But he leaned against the lockers next to me, patiently awaiting my answer.
"I don't know yet," I answered, truthfully.
"You should come over."
"What I do know is that's not going to happen."
"Come on Em," Daniel said, furrowing his eyebrows. "We have fun together."
"I don't want to have fun," I said, pulling out the books I needed for my next class. "Especially not with you."
"So I'm just good for a one-night stand then?"

"I told you it was a mistake," I said, as I exchanged the books currently in my backpack with the ones I'd need for my next class. "And I apologized for that. But it takes two to tango buddy."
"So make it up to me by coming over tomorrow," Daniel said, clearly ignoring the last part of my sentence.
"What part of no are you not getting here?" I asked, slinging my backpack over my shoulder before shutting my locker.
He flashed me a smile.
"Let me spell this out for you," I said, locking my locker before turning to face him. "What we had, whatever it was, is over. We are done."
And with that I walked away.

"Happy Valentine's Day!" Emmett greeted, as I came out into the kitchen.
"You're not the person I was hoping to hear that from," I muttered, opening the refrigerator.
I was wearing a red sundress in the spirit of Valentine's Day. The bust was a bow, and it came down to just above mid-thigh. I'd paired it with a pair of white, eyelet lace Keds.
"Well the person you're referring to is still in the shower, so if you're planning on riding with him to school, you're going to be late."
I listened for a moment, and sure enough I could hear the shower running.
"So did he mention anything?" I asked.
"Mention anything?"
"Hint towards anything about today?"
"What about today?"
My brother is about as perceptive as a rock.
"Does Parker have any plans for us for Valentine's Day?" I deadpanned.
"Oh." Emmett gave me a strange look. "Hell if I know."
"Well what do you guys talk about?"
"Our last conversation was about who's hotter in The Other Woman."

"Cameron Diaz totally takes the floor."
"Excuse me, but have you seen Kate Upton?" He shook his head. "I'm embarrassed to call you my twin."
~*~
"So tell me about the romance," Michelle gushed, as I plugged in my Pink Floyd vinyl.
"There's no romance," I informed her, plopping down on my couch. "None, zilch, zero."
"Parker didn't do anything for Valentine's Day?"
"I haven't even seen him all day," I pointed out.
"He's going to do something that really knocks your socks off."
"I highly doubt it." I checked the time. "I've got to go, I have math homework I need to knock out."
"Okay," Michelle pouted. "Tell me all about your romantic getaway with Parker later!"
I rolled my eyes, ending our video chat before starting in on my math homework.
About halfway through my worksheet, the door opened and Parker came in.
"Hey!" he called out, with a smile.
"Hey," I answered.
He walked over to me, and surprised me by kissing me on the cheek. "Happy Valentine's Day." And then he disappeared back towards his room.
"Gee, thanks," I muttered, before starting another math problem.
I tried not to expect much from Parker Valentine's Day wise, but it was still a letdown. I wanted to feel special, like the other girls I'd had to witness walking around with their giant bouquets of flowers and life-sized teddy bears all day.
And what do I get? A kiss on the cheek. Lucky me.
I sighed, finishing up my math worksheet and turning off my Pink Floyd vinyl, ready to turn in for an early night.
I threw open my bedroom door, ready to ditch my Valentine's Day dress, and then stopped.
Sitting on my bed was a giant teddy bear, and in his lap was a box of chocolates and a bouquet of roses.
"Well damn," Parker huffed. "Took you long enough. I thought I was going to have to fake an injury or something."
I crossed my bedroom, throwing my arms around his neck.
"Happy Valentine's Day," he laughed.
I couldn't help but laugh, burying my head in his neck.
"You seemed pretty disappointed earlier," he commented.
I reached up on my tip-toes, planting a kiss on his lips. "Happy Valentine's Day you goofball."
