《My Brother's Best Friend》Chap. 21

"You know, it's usually Emmett taking care of me when I'm sick," I said to Parker, as I heated up some soup in the microwave.

"Same," he agreed. "Emmett is kind of the dad that keeps this apartment together."

"Agreed."

"How long is he on bed rest for again?" Parker asked, leaning against the counter.

"Doctor said 3 days. So he's just got today left."

The microwave went off, and I pulled out the soup, stirring it up a bit before heading back to Emmett's room.

He was lying across his bed, watching Netflix on his iPad.

"Your soup," I said, placing it on his nightstand.

"Thanks," he muttered.

"Feeling better?" I asked, sitting on the edge of his bed.

"Well I don't feel like I've been hit and dragged by a truck anymore, so in that sense yeah I guess."

"Always the optimist," I teased, stealing his line.

He chuckled at that, pausing his Netflix. "Sorry for being an idiot."

"Apology accepted, again."

"I just can't believe I was that stupid," he groaned. "Six hits in an hour?"

"Don't worry, I definitely won't let it happen again."

He laughed at that, taking his soup off the nightstand. "I can see that."

"Well you haven't missed much at school," I said, standing up. "I mean, it's over now, for Christmas break and everything. But the last two days were completely uneventful."

"Except for the game I missed last night," he added.

"Parker scored for you. You guys won."

"I know," he agreed. "But it pisses me off."

"Well now both you and Parker have missed a game this season, so consider it even."

He laughed again.

"Okay, so I booked the hotel room," Parker said, coming into Emmett's room. "Now what?"

"They'll send you a confirmation email," Emmett informed him, before taking a bite of soup.

"And then that's it?"

Emmett nodded in agreement.

"Well that was easy."

"Where are you going?" I asked Parker.

"To pick up Lee," he said, leaning against the doorway. "But I'm not driving 6 hours in one day, especially to get there and just turn around. So we're spending the day at the beach. And then we'll come back tomorrow."

"Practice tomorrow at 10," Emmett reminded him.

"Then I'll be back tomorrow by 10," Parker said. "Can you text that to me?"

"Remind me why you're a Captain?" Emmett muttered.

"Because I'm a badass," Parker informed him, before leaving his bedroom.

"A pain in my ass is more like it!" Emmett called after him.

"Name a vinyl," I said to Michelle, as I put some cinnamon rolls in the oven.

"The Rolling Stones."

"Okay," I agreed, heading over to my vinyl cabinet to find it.

"Are you there alone?" Michelle asked, as I sought out the record.

"Yeah," I agreed, plugging it into the record player. "Emmett had practice and Parker went to pick up his brother."

"Parker Adams has a brother?" Her eyes widened in excitement. "How cute is he?"

"One, I haven't seen him yet," I said, turning down the volume a bit on the auxiliary. "And two, he's 15."

"Boo," Michelle complained.

"I'm hanging up now so I can have a solo dance party and some cinnamon rolls."

"Okay," she agreed. "Fill me in on mystery Adams brother."

I rolled my eyes, promising to give her the dirt before hanging up.

I danced around the kitchen as I waited for the cinnamon rolls, voices of The Rolling Stones overtaking the apartment.

I don't know why I ever disliked having the apartment to myself. It's so peaceful.

Once the cinnamon rolls were ready, I frosted them and then ate one as I hopped up on the coffee table, belting out the song and dancing on top of the table.

I was obviously born to be a performer.

"I waited as the days go by. I long for the nights to go by. I hear the knock on my door that never comes. I hear the telephone that hasn't rung."

"Well this is different," a foreign voice said behind me.

I turned around to see Parker and a younger boy standing in the doorway, the younger boy smirking while Parker just stared at me.

"Um," I said, looking at the cinnamon roll in my hand and then down at my feet, which were still perched on top of the coffee table.

"So this is Emily," Parker said, stifling a laugh.

I hopped down off the table, swallowing the cinnamon roll mess currently in my mouth.

"Y-you said you'd be back after 11," I stuttered.

They'd gotten a late start this morning, which is why Parker wasn't supposed to make it back in time for practice.

"There wasn't any traffic," the younger version of Parker informed me.

He was just a couple of inches shorter than Parker, but was a lot thinner and lankier. His hair was swept up and he had ice blue eyes.

"Lee Adams," he said, extending his hand towards me with a laugh.

"Emily Winston," I said, glancing at the cinnamon roll still in my hand and then back at him.

"Are there more?" Lee asked me.

"You just fucking ate," Parker muttered, carrying a couple of bags back towards his room.

"I'm a growing boy!" Lee called after him.

"There's more," I promised, before taking another bite of the one cinnamon roll in my hand.

"So is this The Rolling Stones on vinyl?" Lee asked me, as he headed over to the kitchen.

"Yeah," I agreed, surprised he knew that.

"Was that all your shit?" Parker asked, coming back into the living room and kitchen area.

"How many bags did you have?" Lee asked, before shoving an entire cinnamon roll into his mouth.

"3."

Lee nodded, unable to speak due to the food he'd just shoved into his mouth.

"Where am I sleeping?" Lee asked, once he swallowed the cinnamon roll mess.

"For now on an air mattress in my room," Parker muttered, opening the refrigerator and pulling out the orange juice. "But I swear to God Lee, if you climb into my bed in the middle of the fucking night, you're on the couch."

Lee smiled at him, a full-blown ear-to-ear smile. "Aw Parks, you know you love me."

"Not that much."

~*~

"So Emily," Lee said, plopping down next to me on the couch.

"So Lee," I answered, looking over at him.

He and Parker had basically spent the day together, doing whatever it is brothers do.

"Do you always dance on top of the furniture?"

I couldn't help but laugh, shaking my head.

He helped himself to some of my popcorn, propping his feet up on the coffee table.

"So you're Emmett's sister then?" he asked.

I nodded in agreement.

"You guys look alike."

"I would hope so, being twins and all."

"Well you know, fraternal twins have the same possibility of looking alike as two siblings," Lee stated.

"I didn't know that."

"If he turns into an encyclopedia, just smack him," Parker informed me, as he came into the kitchen.

"Such an asshole," Lee said to me, with an eye roll.

Parker drank some orange juice before taking a bottle of water. "I'm going on a run, you good here?"

"I don't know, I could get scared of the dark or something."

"Shut the hell up," Parker muttered, before leaving the apartment.

"He's more protective than my mom ever was," Lee informed me, once the apartment door closed.

It was kind of cute to see Parker being overprotective over Lee.

"Have you ever seen the show Catfish on MTV?" Lee asked me, after a couple of moments of silence.

"No," I said, with a shake of my head.

"It's hilarious," he said, picking up the remote and switching it from Conan.

Not that I minded, I wasn't really paying attention to it.

"This guy takes these couples that have been dating online to meet each other in person," Lee explained.

That sounded hilarious.

"It never works out," he continued, leaning back on the couch. "Because, you know, people can fake whatever the hell they want online. But in person you've got to own who you are."

"That could potentially be good advice," I said, looking over at Lee. "You know, if you reworded it and removed the swearing."

"Thanks," Lee said, flashing me a boyish smile.

If it had been Parker, or any other teenage boy for that matter, they would've taken that compliment and put an egotistical twist on it. But Lee was genuine about it. He seemed happy almost that I'd paid him a compliment.

We watched an episode of Catfish, and Lee was right, it was hilarious.

I could not stop laughing when the girl got there and found out that her model boyfriend was actually a girl.

"I could never date a girl online," Lee said, after we'd both sobered up.

"Why not?" I asked.

"Because I wouldn't be able to get to know her on a personal level I don't think."

That's actually really sweet.

"Have you ever had a girlfriend?" I asked Lee.

He nodded in agreement. "Nothing serious though."

"What do you look for in a girl?" I asked, finishing off the last of the popcorn.

"She has to be nice."

I waited for him to say something else, and then when he didn't, we both busted out into laughter.

"Very specific," I said, as I continued to laugh.

"Well is that a bad quality?" he defended, still laughing.

"No, but is that your only one?"

Lee nodded in agreement. "She just has to be nice."

"I think you'll find someone."

"I hope so," he mused. "But just in case, I already have my future cats picked out."

I couldn't contain my laughter after that.

***************************************************************************************************************

So what did you guys think about Emily taking care of Emmett while he was sick, a bit of role reversal there eh? And then what about Lee, what's your impression of him?

The picture up there at the top was submitted by Harrys_bae___. What do you guys think?

Okay, so just to clear something up about last chapter. A bunch of you were telling me that 1) Emmett can't overdose on his inhaler & 2) He can't overdose on 6 puffs. I do medical research before I post a chapter, I really do promise. So yes, you can overdose on your inhaler. And yes, you can overdose in 6 puffs. Now maybe it's not to overdose on 6 puffs, that much I don't know. But I do know that it's possible.

I'm working on hotel wifi and it honestly sucks. It's even slower than my HotSpot, if that tells you anything. It's so frustrating.

Teaser: Lee reveals something to Emily she wasn't supposed to know. And there's a bit of drama, per usual.

Update: I hope it will be Thursday, but if not then when I get back from vacation,
