《My Brother's Best Friend》Chap. 9

"I'd say that was a successful workout," Michelle said, as we exited the gym together.

"I'd agree," I said, flicking her with my sweat towel.

"You're disgusting," she said, laughing as she wiped off her arm. "Want to grab some dinner before the game?"

"You know it."

I slid into the passenger seat of Michelle's car, checking my phone as we drove down to Chick-Fil-A.

"Nothing better than fast food after a workout," Michelle sighed, patting her stomach.

I laughed as she ordered for the two of us.

"You know my order to a tee," I said, as we pulled around the building.

"This is true."

We munched on our food on the way to the soccer game, the radio blasting.

The game had already started by the time we got there.

"It's getting colder," I said to Michelle, as I slipped on one of her hoodies that she kept in her backseat.

"The wonders of the weather?" Michelle asked, raising her eyebrows at me. "It's Fall Em, the weather gets colder."

I ignored her, climbing up the bleachers and taking a seat.

Emmett and Parker were both in the striker position, the ball on our side of the field.

Emmett was waiting at the half-line, his hands on his hips. My eyes immediately travelled to his bright yellow Captain band.

Proud sister moment.

Parker was a little bit more onto our side of the field, anxiously awaiting the ball. My eyes were also drawn to his bright yellow Captain band.

It was an eye sore on him.

And then Parker received the ball.

He took his breakaway with Emmett streaking up the opposite side of the field.

I jumped to my feet, cheering for our team. Not for Parker, but for the team.

And then Parker missed the shot.

"Well boo," I muttered, taking my seat again.

"What happened?" Michelle asked, looking up from her phone.

I rolled my eyes, laughing.

"Go team, go!" she cheered, before looking back down at her phone again.

I sat criss-cross as the half wound down, neither team scoring.

"Tell your brother to step on it," Michelle said to me. "We need a goal."

"I'm pretty sure he knows that," I said, gesturing to the sideline where the coach was talking with both Parker and Emmett separate from the team.

She took a sip of her soda from Chick-Fil-A. "Let's talk about Parker Adams's legs though."

"Let's not," I suggested, rolling my eyes.

"Just admit your undying love for him," Michelle said, poking me with her straw.

"Just admit that you're insane."

"Well we already know that."

I rolled my eyes, watching as the clock ticked down the minutes left in halftime.

"Emily Winston?" Leslie Jansen asked, as she ascended the bleachers.

"That's me," I said, giving her a wave.

Her boyfriend was a striker for the opposing team, but he and Emmett used to play together in Little League.

"You're back," she said, opening her arms for a hug.

I gave her a quick hug before retaking my seat.

"Just the girl I was looking for," she asked, taking a seat a row down from Michelle and me. "I heard some rumors."

"What rumors?" I asked.

But I couldn't help but tense up, because I knew exactly which rumors she was referring to, the ones about me in London.

"That Emmett's under restrictions?"

Wait, what?

"What do you mean?" I asked, exchanging glances with Michelle, who seemed just as confused as I was.

"The rumor is that he went to Jacksonville for testing for his asthma."

"Okay," I agreed.

"And that he was put on restrictions regarding soccer."

"Just a rumor," I said, waving her off. "All the tests turned out to be normal."

"Oh good," she said, with a bright smile. "I was worried."

I looked out to the field, where Emmett was juggling a soccer ball while talking with Parker.

"I'm glad to see you back," Leslie said, once the half ran out. "We should catch up soon."

"Definitely," I agreed.

She flashed me one last smile before joining her boyfriend's family across the bleachers.

"That was odd," Michelle said, as the two teams lined up for the second half.

"Very," I agreed.

If Emmett had been placed on some sort of restrictions due to his asthma, he would've told me, right?

"It's been a hard day's night, and I'd been working like a dog. It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log. But when I get home to you I find the things that you do will make me feel alright."

I danced around the living room to A Hard Day's Night, one of my favorite Beatles records.

"You know I work all day to buy you things. And it's worth it just to hear you say you're going to give me everything-"

"Am I going to come home to this every day?" a male voice asked.

I let out a scream and whirled around to face Parker, falling on my butt in the process.

"Graceful," he commented, unable to hold back a smirk.

"You're such an ass," I muttered, standing up.

"So the Beatles?" he asked, picking up my vinyl case.

"Don't touch," I ordered, swiping the case from him.

"Touchy." He held up his hands in mock surrender. "How many records do you have?"

"A lot."

He rolled his eyes.

"What are you making for dinner?" I asked, placing my vinyl cover down on the coffee table.

"I ordered a pizza."

"Healthy. I'm sure your soccer coach would love to know that."

And then, in one swift motion, he lifted up his shirt to reveal a six-pack.

"What are you doing?" I shrieked, covering my eyes.

"I don't think he'll mind," Parker mused.

"Put your shirt back down."

"Does it bother you?"

"Yes."

And then I was hit in the face with his shirt.

"You're such a jerk," I muttered, picking his shirt up off the floor and glaring at him.

"Oh come on Princess," he said, leaning against the kitchen counter. His abs rippled in the process, and I tried not to stare at them. "Didn't I hear something the other day about wanting to lick my abs?"

My face flushed red.

I am going to murder Michelle.

"Well here's your chance."

I was absolutely dumbfounded. I had no idea what to say or do.

Parker chuckled, plucking his shirt from my hands before heading back to his bedroom.

That was going to be the last time Parker Adams bested me.

"Hey Em," a familiar voice said behind me.

"Hey Danny," I said, the words just slipping out of my mouth.

Dammit.

I turned around to face Daniel, who was smiling from ear-to-ear.

"That meant nothing," I informed him, shutting my locker before going to side-step him.

"Why can't you just admit that you still have feelings for me?" he asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

"And why can't you admit that you are horny for at least 6 girls in this hallway?"

He sighed, stepping back and running his fingers through his hair. "It was a mistake."

"Three girls? That isn't a mistake," I informed him, rolling my eyes. "That's a choice."

"Come on Emily, give me another chance. I've changed."

"So have I."

And he didn't have anything to say to that, so this time I did step around him and head to class.

"Who's the douche?" Parker asked, joining me in the hallway.

"Why do you care?" I asked, hugging my textbook to my chest.

"Because he clearly made you uncomfortable."

"And you do that on a daily basis."

He laughed at that.

"Do you need something?" I asked, turning to face him.

"Yeah," he agreed, with a smirk. "Are you going to be home tonight?"

"I'm home every night."

"Right. Well do you think that you could not be home tonight?"

"Gross."

He shrugged, not bothering to deny it.

"Happily."

"Thanks Princess."

"Don't call me that."

He let out another laugh before jogging off in the other direction, catching up with some blonde. He wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close to him.

And I thought Emmett was bad.

So what did you guys think about the soccer game? What about the rumors about Emmett, do you believe them or nah? And then the Parker & Emily moments, how do we feel about those? And Daniel, of course, do you guys like him?

Sorry the update is a day late. I had a major final yesterday & I just didn't have it in me to get the update finished afterwards. I'm human guys, sometimes I need an extra day to get the update finished. Just bear with me.

And the people asking me to make the chapters longer, here's the deal. I can either update once a week with longer chapters, or twice a week with this length. Most people prefer twice a week.

Just bought 5 Seconds of Summers' EP. I've been listening to it on repeat for an hour now. What do you guys think about it, if you've heard it?

Teaser: Emily goes shopping with Michelle, and it things just sort of spiral from there...
