《My Brother's Best Friend》Chap. 2

"It's cool out," I said, as we stepped out of Michelle's car.

"I love this time of year," she sang. "Especially when the leaves begin to change."

I looked around at the colorful leaves as we headed up into the bleachers.

"Is that Emily Winston?" I heard people asking as I found my spot on the bleachers.

"I hate it when it gets cold," I said, watching as the boys' soccer team warmed up.

"Well it's not cold yet," Michelle said, propping her feet up on the bleacher in front of her. "Just cool."

They called for captains, and I watched as Emmett and Parker jogged to the center of the field to meet the refs.

I knew that Emmett was a captain, he called me as soon as he heard, but I didn't know about Parker.

It was only a couple more minutes before the both teams took the field.

I watched as Emmett took a hit from his inhaler before taking his position as forward, next to Parker.

"Does Emmett's asthma bother him during games at all?" I asked Michelle, as the ref blew the whistle to begin the game.

"Sometimes during the cold games," Michelle admitted, as our team, the Mustangs, kicked off the ball. "But not usually, no."

I watched as the cross came off, and Emmett pounded the ball into the back of the net.

I cheered at the top of my lungs for him, a smile spreading across my face.

I've missed this.

The game was intense, keeping me on the edge of my seat. The opposing team scored in with a few seconds left in the first half, tying up the game.

The second half was spent with each team trying to punch the ball in, and neither team being able to.

Then, with less than two minutes left, Parker Adams had a breakaway.

I screamed at the top of my lungs as he tore down the field, giving him a one-on-one with the goalie. And he slid the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal, giving us a 2-1 lead.

I never imagined myself cheering for Parker Adams.

With the little time left, the other team wasn't able to score, giving the Mustangs a win.

I waited for Emmett by the fence after the game, along with his little groupies.

"Are you Emily Winston?" a blonde-haired, fake-boobed girl asked.

"Yeah?"

"I thought you were in England."

"And now I'm back."

"Hey Em," Emmett said, jogging up to me and throwing his sweaty arms around me.

"Nice game," I said, hugging him back.

I stepped away from him and let his groupies at him. They surrounded him, flipping their hair and complimenting on him on his goal.

"Alright, well I'll see you on Monday," Michelle said, giving me a hug.

"See you."

I leaned against the fence, watching as Emmett flirted with all these girls.

What did they find so attractive about him? I mean, other than his looks and muscles, he's a serious geek.

"Why are you watching your brother work his game?" Parker's voice asked behind me.

"Because I'm so totally intrigued," I said, mocking one of the fake bimbos.

"Hey Parker," a girl said, coming up to him.

"Hey Bethany," he said, with a smirk on his face.

"And what are your plans for tonight?"

I gagged, stepping away from Parker's pick-up for the night.

"What's her problem?" I heard Bethany ask, as I jogged towards Emmett's car.

I took a seat on his hood and pulled out my phone, killing time until Emmett finished his flirting.

I began to surf the web, giggling as I saw what some people had the nerve to post.

"Off the hood of my car," Emmett's voice ordered behind me. "Now."

I hopped off the hood of his car and smiled at him.

"If you ever sit on the hood of my car again, I will kill you."

"I always used to sit on the hood of your car," I complained.

"Yeah, that's before I had a Mercedes. So off my car, clear?"

"Pushy, pushy," I mumbled, sliding into the passenger seat of his car. "So no girl toy tonight?"

"Don't jump to conclusions so fast," he said, with a smirk.

"Gross, gross, gross," I sang, placing my hands over my ears.

"You should come out to the party tonight!" Emmett called over my singing.

"What?" I asked, taking my hands off my ears. "Why?"

He shrugged. "I just think it'll be fun for you." He smirked at me. "You were always quite the partier."

I smirked back at him. "I'm not the only one."

We pulled into our apartment complex and headed upstairs.

"Let me just take a quick shower and change," Emmett said, as we headed inside. "And then we can head out."

"Okay," I agreed, heading back to my room. I changed into a pair of white shorts and a purple tank top with a pair of gold sandals. I touched up the curls in my hair and my makeup.

I headed back out to the couch to wait for Emmett, but stopped short when I saw that it was already occupied.

Parker was making out with a girl on the couch, and was trying to undo her shirt.

I held in my gag as I ran back to my room, trying to erase what I just saw from my memory.

"The hell was that?" I heard the girl's voice demand.

"What?" Parker asked, slightly irritated.

"The sound of footsteps?"

"How should I know?"

"There's only two of you here Parker," the girl accused. "And one of you is in the shower."

"Just ignore it," Parker begged.

"Do you have another girl here?" the girl demanded.

I went into my room and closed the door, shaking my head.

A few moments later, my bedroom door flew open, revealing a very pissed off girl with her hands on her hips.

"Who do you think you are?" she demanded.

"What do you think you're doing?" Parker asked, coming up behind her.

"I'm Emily," I said, raising an eyebrow at this over jealous bitch.

"So you were hiding another girl from me," the girl accused, whirling around to face Parker.

"No," Parker groaned. "She lives here."

"No she doesn't," the girl argued. "It's you and Emmett here, don't try to pull one over on me."

"This is Emily Winston, Emmett's twin sister?" Parker said, in a bored voice.

The girl turned to face me again, her hands on her hips. "Are you Emily Winston?"

"You're a psycho," I said, raising my eyebrows at her.

She lunged for me, but Parker wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her to him.

"Seriously Parker?" I heard Emmett's voice called. "Again with my sister's room?"

"We were just leaving," Parker called back, practically dragging the psycho bitch away from me.

"What does he mean again?" the girl demanded.

"I think you should leave," Parker said.

"You can't kick me out. We have a history."

"Goodbye Leslie."

I heard her huff and scream before slamming the apartment door behind her.

"Could you stop bringing her around here?" I heard Emmett ask. "She's such a psycho bitch."

I couldn't help but smile and mentally high-five him.

"She's a good lay," Parker said, in a bored tone.

"Yeah, I know," Emmett said. "But she's still a psycho."

I rolled my eyes, standing up and heading out to the hallway where they were talking.

Parker was shirtless, not that I was surprised. And Emmett was dressed for the party, his hair still wet from the shower.

"Ready to go?" Emmett asked me.

I nodded, side-stepping Parker to head to the apartment door.

"Are you guys hitting up Katie's party?" Parker asked.

"Yeah, want to come?" Emmett asked.

Really Emmett? Why are you inviting him?

"Yeah sure, give me a sec to find a shirt." He disappeared back into his room.

I turned to glare at Emmett.

"What?" Emmett asked, raising his eyebrows at me.

"Why did you invite him?" I hissed.

"Because he's my best friend?"

"So?"

Emmett rolled his eyes. "You two are going to have to learn how to get along. We're all stuck living under the same roof, so you might as well get used to it."

"I will never get used to him."

Parker came out to the living room/kitchen. He stopped short when he saw Emmett and me.

"What?" I asked, raising my eyebrows at him.

"Nothing," he said, shaking his head. He jogged past us and opened the door.

I followed him to the elevator, Emmett locking up the apartment.

"You're going to the party dressed like that?" Parker asked me, pressing the elevator button.

"Yeah," I said, suddenly feeling self-conscious. "Why? Is there something wrong with it?"

"Something wrong with what?" Emmett asked, joining us as the elevator arrived.

"Nothing," Parker and I said simultaneously.

Emmett raised his eyebrows at us. "Okay?"

"So guess who asked about you after the game," Parker said to Emmett, leaning against the railing in the elevator.

"Who?" Emmett asked, raising his eyebrows.

"Janice."

Emmett's jaw dropped as the elevator doors opened. "You better not be bullshitting me."

"Serious as a heart attack," Parker promised, as we headed out to Emmett's car. "Told her you'd be at Katie's party tonight."

"How'd you know that?"

"Had a hunch."

The two boys did their handshake thing, laughing.

We reached Emmett's car and I went to open the passenger door.

"I don't think so princess," Parker said, raising his eyebrows at me as he stepped in front.

"Excuse me?" I asked.

"I ride passenger."

"In your dreams," I scoffed.

We both glared at each other, and then called for Emmett at the same time.

"Don't drag me into this," Emmett said, laughing as he took the driver's seat.

"You're not going to win this one," Parker warned me.

"How about rock paper scissors?" I suggested.

"Hell no."

"Then we stand out here all night and miss the party and you don't get your booty call tonight."

Parker rolled his eyes. "A little dramatic there aren't we?"

"Would you guys just get into the fucking car?" Emmett complained.

"Okay," I said, with a shrug. "You can have shotgun."

Parker smiled at me. "I knew you'd cave, they always-"

And during his speech, I dove into the passenger seat, locking the door behind me.

I shot him a victory smile as he stared at me with wide eyes, comprehending what just happened.

Emmett laughed, reaching across the center console to high-five me.

"You have to unlock the door to let him in," Emmett reminded me.

Right, two-door coupe.

So I unlocked it, graciously opening the door for him. "If you'd like to climb into the back."

"I will get you for this," Parker muttered, before climbing into the back of the car.

"Watch the seats," Emmett ordered, before I closed the door and we took off.

The party was already in full swing by the time we got there, just how I liked it.

Fashionably late.

I stepped out, taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly.

This was my first party back in the States, and I was going to make it a party to remember.

"Nothing too crazy," Emmett said, swinging his arm around my shoulders and guiding me through the mess outside.

"No promises there," I said, with a laugh.

"It's okay to ease back into it," he said, opening the door for me.

I smiled at him. "You don't have to worry about me Emmy. I'm fine." I tapped his nose before heading towards the kitchen.

I helped myself to a Bud Light before making my way back out to the dance floor.

I surveyed the room, looking for somebody appetizing to dance with.

"Bud Light?" Emmett asked, appearing next to me.

"Are you stalking me?"

"Why Bud Light?"

"Because I like the taste better." I popped the top and took a swig. "Seriously, you don't need to breathe down my neck. I can handle myself."

He threw his hands up in mock surrender before making his way out to the dance floor, immersing himself in with a group of girls.

Once a flirt, always a flirt.

And I learned from the best.

So what did you guys think about the game? Were you surprised to find out that Emmett & Parker were captains? What about that Emmett has asthma? And then the banter between Parker & Emily before the party? What about Emmett's protectiveness?

Sorry that this update it a couple days late, I just haven't had the time that I normally do this week. I've been drowning in schoolwork & migraines and it's just been hectic.

So for those of you that don't know, Thursday was probably, like, the BEST day of my life. My most favorite author, Lurlene McDaniel, tweeted me back on Twitter and now my entire life is complete.

Teaser: Emily's parents! And that's all I'm going to say about that.
