《My Brother's Best Friend》Chap. 1

"Emily!" I heard my brother's voice called.
I whipped around in the airport, a smile spreading across my face as I saw my twin standing in the terminal.
"Emmett!" I called, running towards him and jumping into his arms.
He picked me up and spun me around in a circle as I dug my head into the crook of his neck, laughing.
"I missed you so much," I groaned, as he put me down.
"Missed you too," he said, with a half-smile.
"I have so much to tell you," I gushed, as we headed to baggage claim.
"I'd expect so," he said, with a laugh. "I mean, you just spent a year in England."
"I couldn't wait to get back home," I said, as Emmett pulled my bag off the baggage claim for me.
"But you benefitted from the program," he corrected, as we headed outside.
"Yeah, yeah Dr. Phil, shut up."
He laughed, a whole-hearted, deep belly laugh. "God Em, I've missed you."
"No," I corrected. "I've missed you."
We made it out to his car, and I hopped into the passenger seat, propping my feet up on the dashboard.
"Nice new ride," I said, after he dropped my bag in the trunk and slid into the driver's seat.
"It's a Mercedes Benz Concept Style Coupe," Emmett said, patting the seat. "And your feet had better not be on the dashboard."
I smirked at him, keeping my feet up. "You know me all too well Emmy."
"Don't call me that."
"I'll always call you that."
"So there's something I didn't have the chance to tell you on the phone," Emmett said, as we made it out of the airport parking lot.
"What's that?" I asked, with a bright smile.
"Well you know how we were living in an apartment together?"
"Yeah?" I raised my eyebrows at him. "Did you give my spot away?"
"No," he said, quickly. He shook his head. "No, I'd never give your spot away. I upgraded actually."
"You upgraded from our apartment?" I asked, a smile spreading across my face. "Where is all this outside money coming from Mr. Big Shot?"
"Well the Mercedes I've been saving up for since I was 12," Emmett said, pointing his finger at me.
"I remember."
"But the upgraded apartment was because I might've taken in another roommate?"
"So you did give my spot away?" I asked, feeling my heart drop.
"No," he corrected. "That's why we upgraded the apartment, so there's room for the three of us."
"So who is this mystery roommate?" I asked, pulling my legs into a criss-cross position. "And why haven't you mentioned them before?"
Emmett's phone went off, and he flashed me an apologetic smile before answering it.
"Hey babe," he said, and I rolled my eyes.
"Actually I'm with Emily right now," he said, flashing me a smile.
I raised my eyebrows at him. I'd never heard him turn down one of his booty calls for me.
"I'll call you soon," he promised, before hanging up the phone.
"Which girl toy was that?" I asked.
He smirked at me. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Unless you've drastically changed your player ways in the past year, I know that wasn't a girlfriend."
He busted out into laughter, shaking his head. "Ouch."
"So who was she?"
"I can't tell you because you know her," he whined.

"I know all of your girl toys."
He sighed. "It was Veronica."
My jaw dropped. "Veronica, as in Veronica Mahoney, as in the biggest comic book nerd at Westchester High?"
"She's changed," Emmett said, with a smirk.
"So she's more your type now? Blonde hair, big boobs, fake tan type?"
"Blonde hair and fake tan, yes," Emmett said, unashamed. "But her boobs are lacking in size."
"Gross," I groaned.
"It's not like she can change her boob size," Emmett continued, "unless she did the whole boob job thing. But it's still probably a little early for that."
"She's 17," I said, with a laugh. "Yes it's still early for that!"
We pulled into an apartment complex.
"This looks nice," I commented, hopping out of his car.
"I would hope so," he said, grabbing my bags out of the trunk.
"I can carry those you know."
"Shut up."
I laughed, following him inside and into the elevator.
"So the apartment is a little messy," Emmett said, with an apologetic smile. "I tried to clean up for you, but then I got distracted and bored."
"I wouldn't expect anything less."
He laughed, taking me to apartment 6B. He opened the door and showed me in.
"Your room is back here," Emmett said, leading me down a hallway and to the last door on the right. He opened it to reveal a standard room. There was a bed, a desk, and my dresser and nightstand from the last apartment. And there was a little door that led to a mini-closet.
"Thanks Emmy," I said, kissing his cheek.
"Yeah, yeah. I'll order a pizza for dinner?"
"Sounds like heaven."
He left me alone, and I closed my bedroom door and began to unpack. I put all my clothes in my dresser and mini-closet, and then unpacked my bed sheets and comforter, adding some color to the room.
I placed my laptop on the desk, as well as the picture frames I carried around with me.
I took a step back and smiled at my room, happy to finally be home.
I slid my suitcase under my bed before changing out of my airplane clothes and into an oversized hoodie and a pair of leggings. I headed out into the kitchen, where Emmett was doing the dishes.
"I'm impressed," I said, leaning against the refrigerator.
"Someone has to clean up around here," he muttered.
"So how's soccer going?" I asked, pulling a bottle of water out of the refrigerator.
"Pretty well," Emmett said, with a nod. "You're coming to the game tomorrow, right?"
"Sure," I said, sipping on the water. "It's not like I have other plans."
He laughed. "Have you called Michelle yet?"
"No, not yet," I said, taking a seat on the counter. "We agreed that tonight would be just us, remember?"
"Why else would I have turned down Veronica?" Emmett asked, raising his eyebrows at me.
"Gross," I said, laughing as I headed into the living room, which was attached to the kitchen.
I took a seat on the couch and flipped on the TV, finding my current favorite show, Wendell & Vinnie.
"You're such a child," Emmett said, sitting next to me on the couch with a bag of Cheetos.
"Says the guy with a Cheeto mustache," I said, with a laugh.
His eyes widened in horror, and he jumped up and ran to look in a mirror.

I buckled over in laughter.
"Emily Marie Winston!" Emmett called from the bathroom, once he realized that I'd lied.
He came back into the living room and pounced on me.
"What are you going to do?" I asked, a smile on my face.
"I still know your weakness."
"Oh yeah?" I challenged.
He began to tickle me and I howled in laughter, thrashing around and trying to break free.
"Say that Emmett is the coolest guy you know," he shouted.
"Emmett you're the coolest guy I know," I shouted.
He stopped tickling me, an evil smile on his face.
"I'll get you back," I warned, as he got off of me.
"I'd like to see you try," he said, with a smirk.
~*~
I felt the weight in my bed shift.
"Emmett, what are you doing?" I groaned.
Emmett froze.
I reached over and flipped on my lamp, and then screamed when I realized that it wasn't Emmett in my bed.
The male screamed too, falling off my bed in surprise.
My bedroom door flew open, and Emmett was standing there, shirtless and in a pair of boxer shorts with a golf club.
"What the hell?" Emmett demanded.
"Who is that?" I screamed, my hand over my heart.
"What the fuck is going on?" the third guy asked, standing up.
He was shirtless as well, but wearing a pair of sweatpants, soccer warm-ups to be exact.
I immediately recognized his face.
"Parker Adams?" I demanded.
"Emily?" he asked, confusion written across his face.
"Parker, what the hell are you doing in my sister's bedroom?" Emmett asked.
"The fuck if I know," Parker said. "I thought this was my bedroom." He smirked at Emmett. "Nice boxers."
"Get out!" I ordered, my heart rate slowly dropping back to normal.
"Feisty," Parker muttered, a smirk on his face. "Don't pretend like you don't like it."
"Parker, enough," Emmett ordered.
Parker left my room, flashing me a smile.
"Parker Adams is your roommate?" I demanded to Emmett.
"Uh, yeah?" Emmett asked, rubbing the back of his neck. "Didn't I mention that?"
"No, not really," I hissed.
"Oh."
"Oh? Your idiot friend just climbed, half-naked, into my bed."
"Can we argue about this when it's not 2 AM?" he asked, with a yawn.
"Whatever," I mumbled, reaching over and turning off my lamp.
"Love you Emily," Emmett called.
"Go to hell," I muttered.
~*~
"I made coffee," Emmett said, poking his head in my door. "And pancakes."
He was trying to suck-up after what happened last night.
"Be there in a sec," I said, with a sigh.
I shimmied out of bed and pulled on a t-shirt over my sports bra and left my yoga pants. I ran my fingers through my hair as I headed out into the kitchen.
Emmett was dressed in a t-shirt and gym shorts, and I had no doubt he'd already gone on a morning run.
"I made you pancakes," he said, placing two on a plate for me. "And your coffee mug is already on the counter."
"This doesn't make up for anything," I said, a seat at the counter.
"Aw, come on," he said, flashing me a genuine smile. "I woke up early just to make you pancakes."
"You invited Parker Adams to live in our apartment."
"It didn't exactly happen like that."
"Oh really? Then how did it exactly happen?"
The apartment door opened, and Parker walked in. He was shirtless and wearing a pair of gym shorts and Nikes, his headphones in his ear and his phone strapped to his arm.
"You made pancakes?" Parker asked, dropping his headphones and unstrapping his phone from his arm.
"Not for you," Emmett scoffed. "But there is some batter leftover if you want to make your own."
"Gee thanks," Parker said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "But I think I'll have to pass." He headed back to his bedroom without even acknowledging my presence.
"He's such an ass," I whined to Emmett.
"He's pretty chill," Emmett argued, taking a sip of his coffee. "You just have to give him a chance."
"Why would I want to?"
"Because we're all living in an apartment together?" Emmett suggested.
"Yeah, no."
He smirked at me, finishing off his first pancake. "So I have to work today."
"Have fun."
"My work schedule is posted on the refrigerator," he said, pointing to it. "It's updated every two weeks."
I nodded.
"So if you ever need me, just check my schedule."
"Got it."
He poured himself some coffee into a travel mug and then headed back to his room. "I'd suggest taking your turn in the bathroom now before Parker uses up all the hot water!"
I finished off my pancakes before heading back to my room. I grabbed my bag with all my toiletries and headed to the only bathroom in the apartment.
"You didn't tell me your sister was coming back," I heard Parker say.
I leaned against the wall, eavesdropping.
"I've been telling you for two weeks," Emmett argued. "And it's been written on the schedule."
"Stop it with that stupid schedule," Parker groaned. "And is she going to be living here?"
"Yes Parker, we discussed this!" Emmett whisper-shouted.
"I never agreed to this."
"Well you're going to have to get over it. That's my sister."
I heard Parker groan.
"Good, now go into your pigsty of a bedroom and find my shin guards that I let you borrow," Emmett ordered.
I quickly stepped into the bathroom so they wouldn't know I heard their argument.
I guess my hatred for Parker goes two ways.
~*~
"I can't believe you're back!" Michelle squealed, throwing her arms around my neck.
I gave her a tight hug, a smile stretching across my face.
"I have so much to tell you," she gushed, sitting across from me at the table I'd saved.
"Emily," the Starbucks barista called.
I went and grabbed my coffee before retaking my seat. "Start talking missy."
She held up a finger.
"Michelle," the Starbucks barista called.
I laughed as Michelle went over and got her Frappuccino.
"I don't even know where to start," she said, taking a sip of her overpriced milkshake.
"How's the team?" I asked.
"We didn't make it to Nationals last year," she said, making a face. "Mrs. Kline was pissed."
"Of course she was."
"Yeah, so that was fun."
"How's school?"
"Did you hear about Veronica Mahoney?"
I made a face. "She called my brother yesterday for a booty call."
Michelle busted out into laughter. "Totally disgusting."
"Tell me about it."
"So speaking of your brother, how is it to be back with him again?"
"I missed him so much," I admitted. "We were so close when I left, so I hope we can get back to that."
"What did you guys do last night?"
"Pigged out and watched TV."
"You guys are so predictable."
I laughed, before gasping.
"What?" she demanded.
"Did you know about Parker Adams?" I demanded.
"You mean that he's roomies with your brother?"
"Yeah, that!"
"Everybody knows."
"Well I didn't," I huffed. "And last night, in the middle of the night, a half-naked Parker climbed into my bed."
"Are you kidding?"
"No! He said he thought it was his bed."
Michelle busted out into laughter.
"Yeah, it wasn't so funny to me. It scared the living shit out of me."
"So are you going to the boys' soccer game tonight?"
I nodded. "It'll be the first time I've seen Emmett play since the 9th grade."
Michelle smiled. "This will be so much fun!"
I rolled my eyes. "That was such a cheerleader answer."
She pointed her Frappuccino at me. "Don't ever call me a cheerleader."
We both busted out into laughter before heading out of Starbucks, our drinks in hand.
"Are you coming over?" I asked, raising my eyebrows at her.
"To your apartment?"
I nodded.
"That depends, do I have a chance of seeing your brother or Parker Adams shirtless?"
"Gross!" I groaned.
She laughed. "Yeah, I'll come over. We can hang out until the game tonight." She leaned up against my car. "When are you coming back to school?"
"Monday," I said, unlocking my car. "I thought it was pointless to start school on a Friday."
"Hey I'm not arguing," she said, heading to her own car. "It gives me the perfect excuse to skip school."
