since so many words/terms are very british or brummie, this is to help anyone who needs it out!

C H A V

a chav is basically anyone who's loud and kind of rude, who wears designer clothes and starts fights.

B A B

a 'bab' is just something you're called when someone's being sweet to you. it means child or baby, but it's still nice to be called bab even when you're all grown up. dinner ladies use it a lot and it's very midlands slang.

G C S E S

eve is taking her gcses in a week (wish her luck!!) which are basically the exams "your entire school life lead up to!" these exams decide where you progress next and you take them the school year you turn sixteen.

A - L E V E L S

the next step after gcses basically. most people take three, some take four. these grades decide whether you can go to university or not.

S E C O N D A R Y - S C H O O L

the school you attend age 11 - 16, year 7 - 11.

S I X T H - F O R M

this is where you study for a - levels. sixth forms are built onto secondary schools so you know the building and teachers and rules if you choose to stay on for a levels.

C O L L E G E

college is the other option after secondary school. at a college, you take a vocational course in a field that you're interested in going into. personally, i know people doing law and hairdressing so the options are wide open.

T O W N

in birmingham, if someone says they're "going to town" they mean going to city centre.

T I P - T O P

a long, glorified stick of flavoured ice that you may know as an ice pop.

P O P

a fizzy drink. honestly my favourite thing is when the lady at the chippy said "take a bottle o' pop, bab".

C H I P P Y

a slang term for a fish and chip shop which (shocker!!) sells more than just fish and chips. you can get sausages, doner meat and , of course, mushy peas. honestly check out chippies if you're ever visiting the uk from somewhere else, they're so lovely.
