When I get home, Dave tells me off.
"I told you I'd come pick you up," he sighs. "Bus or train?"
"Bus," I say. "And sorry, I didn't want to wake you."
It's his day off today and he likes to lie in on those days. Well, after he drops Alfie off even though he's old enough to walk down to the school himself. He lies in for another hour before having a late breakfast. Then he hoovers, listening to podcasts. It's a routine I've become very familiar with this routine.
"So are you going to do some revision now?" he asks.
"Yeah. I need to do some stuff on osmosis and diffusion and that."
He nods like her understands completely. "I'll be down here if you need anything."
I take a shower first. I wash my hair slowly with strawberry scented shampoo and clean myself with coconut body wash and then condition my hair with coconut conditioner. Mom likes to joke that my shower stuff is all strawberries and coconuts with everyone else being strictly banned.
Josh told me once that my hair smelt like strawberries. It was that day when he told me he loved me and I told him I loved him.
"Your hair smells like strawberries." Just like that, breaking the silence with that very specific observation.
"In a good way or...?"
"In a good way." He shot me a warm smile. "I like strawberries. Like I like you."
I chuck the empty bottle in the bin when I'm done and make a note to myself not to buy that stuff anymore. There's plenty of other scents out there. Scents that my dead ex-boyfriend didn't love.
I take a quick trip downstairs to shove my clothes into the washing machine, Dave telling me he's going to run it in a bit. And when I go back upstairs, I head straight for my wardrobe. I'm not exactly sure where it is but I distinctly remember shoving it somewhere in there when Archie returned it after World Book Day. And my memory is correct (as always). My Sherlock hat is stuffed between a trench coat Dave's mom gave me and an AC/DC shirt. It's too small now so I place it on the desk in the office for inspiration and pull out my notebook.

I write quickly, my letters rushed and messy but readable which is all that matters. Different colour highlighter for each day so far with each day becoming messier and messier.
MONDAY— THE DAY JOSH HARTLEY DIED
• Ravi texts at 10:30
• Josh found in Stockland Lakes by us at about 11
• Eden and Laura not around
• Eden killed Josh (confirmed), Laura unknown
• (Assumption) that Josh left at about 10ish with Laura, she left, Eden saw him on his own and pushed??
TO DO: find out why Josh was with Laura
TUESDAY— THE DAY AFTER JOSH HARTLEY DIED
• Memorial stunt at school in honour of Josh (irrelevant??)
• Eden helping out
• My brief encounter with Granger rummaging through his desk
• He seemed ok considering he became a father 2 days before and didn't even try to help, what a sleaze
WEDNESDAY— THE DAY GRANGER DIED
• I confessed to the murder deal
• Eden texted me, telling me SHE was going to confess to killing Josh (she did)
• I saw on the news that Granger died
• He died 20 minutes after school in his car (how?)
THURSDAY— THE DAY I WAS SUSPECTED OF MURDER
• I had to give my alibi to the police
• Mitch told me why Eden wanted Granger dead
• Granger slept with her sister (ew) and got her pregnant but refused to help her
• Erin gave birth on Sunday, his name probably isn't on the kid's birth certificate and Eden was probably angry about how he didn't come through
• I talked to Erin
• Erin confirmed the affair & him not helping
• Eden isn't allowed out of the flat
• She called someone. Who would she be calling, an accomplice?
• Jenny texted me all panicked about how she needed to talk to someone (irrelevant?)
FRIDAY— THE DAY I SOLVE A MURDER (HOPEFULLY)
• Jenny told me she didn't need to meet as urgently as she said yesterday, what's going on there? (Most likely irrelevant)
• I made these notes.
And that's it.
I stare at the bright yellow highlighter for a while, trying to figure it out.
just to let you know, eve did in fact highlight the days and do the bullet points in a different pen that matched the colour of that day's highlighter
